Showing Open Disrespect for the Law, Qingdao Court Opens Trial of Lawyer Wang Zhangshuo

On September 29th, 2010, a Huangdao Court in Qingdao City began the trial of attorney and Falun Gong practitioner Wang Zhangshuo. Only the day before, the court had notified his family that the trial would begin at 9:30 a.m., but they suddenly moved the time to an hour earlier and changed the presiding judge. Wang Zhangshuo's family hired two attorneys from Beijing, but the court would not allow lawyers from Beijing to represent him. This decision violated Chinese law and affected the outcome. In the proceedings, the Huangdao Procuratorate charged Mr. Wang with "crimes of sabotaging the implementation of the State's laws by utilising an evil religious organisation", and provided mounds of false evidence. -
Ms. Xu Xiaohua Arrested for Refusing to Be a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Agent
2010-10-15In order to inform people about the persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Xu Xiaohua often called people on her mobile phone. She was reported to the authorities, and her mobile phone was tapped and monitored by the police for some time. They broke into her home on September 16th, 2010, and confiscated her computer and other personal belongings. The police told Ms. Xu that they wanted her to work for them as a spy and inform on other practitioners in the local area. When Ms. Xu told them that she didn't know the local practitioners, the police said that they would teach her how to be a spy and that someone would introduce her to the local practitioners. In September Ms. Xu was arrested. Her current whereabouts are unknown. -
Teacher Zhu, Everyone is Looking Forward to Your Return Home
2010-10-14I remembered my chemistry teacher, Ms. Zhu Huimin, whom I had studied with at the Wuhan First Business Vocational School. I went to visit her and she looked very excited and told me that she was practising Falun Gong. Ms. Zhu simply said that after she started practising Falun Gong, her headaches, insomnia and all other diseases disappeared. I was worried about Ms. Zhu at that time because the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) was doing so many bad things, including defamation, disinformation, and attacks against Falun Gong. Ms. Zhu was handing out flyers in a shopping centre and the police had sent her to Hewan Labour Camp for a year of forced labour. -
Seventy-two-year-old Mr. Zheng Decai Sentenced to Prison
2010-10-13Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zheng Decai, 72, was arrested on the second day of the Chinese New Year 2010. Mr. Zheng had planned to put up a poster exposing the persecution of Falun Gong outside. Police arrested him on his way. Then in July 2010, he was secretly sentenced to three and a half years in prison. Mr. Zheng and his son, Mr. Zheng Yongyi, were tortured by Dalian police in 2000 for appealing in Beijing for the right to practise Falun Gong. He was beaten so badly that he lost his hearing. His son suffered a mental breakdown as a result of the torture. -
Ms. Wang Jie from Shenyang Arrested Again Following a Seven-Year Imprisonment
2010-10-12Ms. Wang Jie, 48, from Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, was sentenced to prison in 2002 for exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. She was detained for seven years in the Liaoning Women's Prison, where she was subjected to severe abuse and torture. Ms. Wang was released in October 2009, but in less than a year, she was once again arrested at home on the morning of September 26th, 2010. She is currently in the Shenyang City Detention Centre. -
Ms. Pei Yi from Tianjin Arrested and Detained for the Third Time
2010-10-12Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Pei Yi was arrested on September 19th, 2010 by officers from the Sports Centre Police Station, Nankai Police Department. She was held in the Nankai Police Department's Detention Centre that same night. Officers from the detention centre ransacked her home on September 24th. This is the third time that Ms. Pei has been arrested and detained since the onset of the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999. -
Update: Ms. Du Liming in Critical Condition After Trial
2010-10-09Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Du Liming is from Yitong County, Jilin Province. When local court officials tried her in court on September 10th, 2010, an ambulance was waiting outside the court building. Her family learned that Ms. Du was sent to the Yitong County Chinese Medicine Hospital for emergency treatment a few days later, and that she is in critical condition. Ms. Du was arrested on July 11th as she distributed Falun Gong DVDs on the street. -
147 Practitioners Currently Incarcerated at Masanjia Women's Forced Labour Camp
2010-10-09Police arrested Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Caiyun, 59, on October 21st, 2008 and took her to the Nangou Detention Centre, where she held a week-long hunger strike to protest the detention. She was sent to the Masanjia Women's Forced Labour Camp on October 29th. The next day she was taken to a dark room where the guards slapped her face and shocked her with an electric baton, because her voice was too soft during roll call. She was subjected to another beating in November for refusing to recite the prison rules. Ms. Wang was subjected to a severe "body-stretching" torture method between November 30th and December 3rd, 2009. -
Forcing a Son To Denounce His Own Parents, Chengdu City 610 Office Uses Methods Not Seen Since the Cultural Revolution
2010-10-08Huang Xu was pressured by Chengdu City 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) to persecute his own parents in order to keep his job. His parents, Mr. Huang Shilin and Ms. Yang Ying are a kind, peace-loving couple who both practise Falun Gong. Despite the Communist regime's posing as a modern country, the tragedy of children harming and denouncing their own parents that took place during the Cultural Revolution is sadly once again taking place in today's China. On August 13th, due to their son's direct involvement, Mr. Huang Shilin and Ms. Yang Ying were arrested on their way to a food market by police. The officials sent the couple to the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre. -
610 Office in Yitong County, Jilin Province Prevents Ms. Du Liming's Attorneys from Providing a Defence
2010-10-08In order to prevent two lawyers from defending Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Du Liming, the Yitong County 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) instructed police officers to hold the defence attorneys in their hotel rooms and confiscate their mobile phones. On the hearing date of September 10th, three plainclothes police officers took the two lawyers to Changchun City, bought train tickets for them, and forced them to go back to Beijing. -
Yitong County 610 Office Personnel in Jilin Province Prevent Lawyers from Defending Handicapped Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Du Liming
2010-10-07The Jilin Yitong County Court and 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) have prevented lawyers from defending handicapped Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Du Liming, whom police officer Wang Yingchao and others from the Domestic Security Team of Yitong Police Department had taken into custody. It happened while she was distributing Falun Gong CDs. She is now in the Yitong Detention Centre. -
Guizhou Women's Forced Labour Camp Uses Prisoners to Persecute Falun Gong Practitioners
2010-10-07Six prisoners called "collaborators" monitor and torture practitioners around the clock. They force practitioners to stand like soldiers, with both hands tightly touching the trousers, the body straight, and heels touching each other. Practitioners can only look forward and they are not allowed to talk or move any part of their body. If practitioners even look in another direction once, they are denigrated by the collaborators. These collaborators continuously slander Falun Gong. Some practitioners pass out during this torture. Collaborators forced practitioners to read books that slandered Falun Gong. The practitioners who refused to read the books were not allowed to use the toilet. With excrement in their trousers, they were not allowed to change clothes. -
Ms. Liang Bo Framed by Haidian District Court, Judge Abuses His Power
2010-10-07The Haidian District Court, Beijing conducted a hearing on September 8th, for the case of Ms. Liang Bo. During this so-called public hearing, a colleague of Ms. Liang's husband witnessed the entire procedure. Under Judge You Tao, there were numerous aspects which did not comply with the law. The lawyer strongly requested to question the defendant, Liang Bo, repeatedly so that the court could clarify the case, but his requests were denied by Judge You Tao. The major evidence of the prosecutor were CDs, books, and posters that were confiscated from Liang Bo and her home. None of the evidence was presented at the hearing. Liang Bo stated that much of the evidence was fabricated and not true. Her handbag is not big enough to hold 50 CDs and 20 books. -
Mr. Ma Zhiwu Recounts Eight Years of Suffering
2010-10-06The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began to persecute Falun Gong on July 20th, 1999. Because of my belief, I was detained and imprisoned in Yinchuan Detention Centre, Ningxia Forced Labour Camp, and Wuzhong Prison for eight years. I experienced the most inhuman torture imaginable during those days. I couldn't understand why good people would be detained in a place that should only be for criminals. In August 2000, I started a hunger strike to protest the persecution and demand my freedom. They poured some milk down me through a tube in my nose after the doctor gave me anaesthesia. In order to make me suffer, they inserted the tube into my nose and kept inserting and pulling it out. Some pulled my arms, some pushed my legs down, some held my head. It was so painful that I wanted to die. -
Recent Activities of the 610 Office in the Chuanhui District, Zhoukou City, Henan Province
2010-10-05The 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) in Zhoukou City, Henan Province, has always used underhanded methods to persecute Falun Gong practitioners, and since late August 2010, it has begun another round of persecution. On August 31st, about seven police officers suddenly broke into the home of Ms. Li Changying, 66 years old and Sun Zhanping, 70 years old. They ransacked the home and took Falun Gong books and materials, a desktop computer, a laptop, a digital camera and both of their salary cheques. Police sent both of them to Zhoukou Detention Centre.
