Mr. Liu Jian Sentenced to Seven Years by Wenjiang District Court

A court hearing was held at Wenjiang District Court in Chengdu City for practitioner Mr. Liu Jian on July 15th. During the hearing Wang Yajun, a lawyer from Beijing, presented the case for his defence. Over seventy people attended the hearing, including staff at the court, officers from the police department, local government officials, as well as legal professionals and Mr. Liu's family members. The hearing ended just over an hour later. In a second court hearing on August 6th, Mr. Liu was sentenced to seven years. Mr. Liu appealed against the court's decision and demanded an acquittal, as the authorities handling the case has confiscated a large amount of money from Mr. Liu and Ms. Liu Qi, his elder sister. -
Falun Gong Practitioners Ms. Fan Shunmei and Ms. Chen Yelin from Hunan Province Arrested
2010-09-19On July 19th, 2010, Ms. Fan Shunmei was arrested while explaining the truth about Falun Gong to people in Qiancheng Town. Ms. Fan Shunmei gave a DVD to a man who happened to be a plainclothes police officer. As soon as he saw the disc, he shouted, "Falun Gong!" He and five other plainclothes police officers then grabbed Ms. Fan's hands and arrested her. The Hongjiang City 610 Office sentenced Ms. Fan Shunmei to one year of forced labour. Because Ms. Fan's family paid a lot of money to the police, the officers allowed her to go back home. In mid-August, her family brought her back home. Her family is now keeping a very close watch on her at home. -
Falun Gong Practitioners in Kunming Arrested and Their Homes Ransacked
2010-09-18Ms. Wu Yun is a Falun Gong practitioner in her thirties, and a resident of Kunming, Yunnan Province. On August 27th, Ms. Wu was arrested at home, and her home was ransacked. Over 20 police officers and plainclothes police participated in the arrest, including six or seven armed police carrying rifles and pistols. The ransacking lasted over five hours, and the police took many photos and videos throughout. Ms. Wu is currently detained at the Wuhua District Detention Centre. -
610 Office of Dandong City Political and Judiciary Committee Responsible for Arresting Falun Gong Practitioners and Sending Them to Brainwashing Centres
2010-09-18Officials from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) 610 Office in Dandong City, instructed police in different counties and districts to arrest Falun Gong practitioners. The police subsequently harassed practitioners and their relatives, and ordered practitioners to write a guarantee statement to renounce practising Falun Gong while threatening to arrest and send them to brainwashing centres. Arresting Falun Gong practitioners and their relatives, extorting money from them, and ransacking their homes has become a popular way of making money among Dandong 610 Office personnel. Many officials in Dandong obtained their political capital and higher positions this way. Thus, they persecute practitioners unscrupulously. -
School Teacher from Hunan Province Twice Sentenced to Forced Labour
2010-09-18Ms. Zhou Xiaohong has been dismissed from her job, her home has been ransacked seven times, and she has been arrested four times since the persecution began in July 1999. All of this happened because she persists in her belief in Falun Gong. Her arrests in March 2005 and August 2008 resulted in sentences of 12 months and 15 months, respectively. She was detained at the Baimalong Forced Labour Camp, where she was brutally tortured. Inmates tortured her. They forced her to stand still while they slapped her face, punched, and kicked her. They poured cold water on the floor, then pushed her to the ground and beat her. They also stood on her hands and feet, and poked her arms and hands with sharp instruments. -
Dozens of Practitioners Arrested in Cangzhou City, Hebei Province
2010-09-17The Cangzhou City 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) launched a massive harassment of Falun Gong practitioners on August 25th, 2010 in five cities and eight counties in the Cangzhou region. Dozens of practitioners were arrested. Seventeen practitioners in Cangzhou were harassed and many were arrested. Thirteen of the seventeen were arrested and their homes were searched. Six practitioners are being detained at the Cangzhou Detention Centre. -
Mr. Zhang Hongxu and Eleven-year-old Daughter Arrested; Mr. Zhang in Critical Condition, His Daughter's Whereabouts Unknown
2010-09-17Mr. Zhang Hongxu and his 11-year-old daughter, Ms. Zhang Yuanyuan, were arrested when they went to see another practitioner, Ms. Wang Fenglin, at her home on August 7th. Police took them to the Tongnan County Detention Centre. After 20 days of being tortured, Mr. Zhang is in critical condition. He was last seen being carried out of the detention centre, put into a car and driven away. His eyes were closed, he was not moving, and he looked very weak. His daughter's whereabouts are currently unknown. -
Falun Gong Practitioner Du Hui from Jiamusi, Heilongjiang Province Severely Tortured, Sexually Assaulted and Injected with Drugs
2010-09-17Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Du Hui from Jiamusi was arrested in December 2005 and sentenced to forced labour. Du Hui said: "This has been the most painful time of my life. The physical and mental torture drove me to the point of wanting to die. Throughout this heinous persecution I was disrespected, deprived of all personal liberty and was often in extreme agony...The hardest for me to endure was the mental torture. One time both doctor Li Xuena and the director of the forced labour camp tried to forcefully inject me with an unknown drug. There was no explanation or reason given for the injection. I firmly refused the injection. At day six, my arms were full of puncture holes...and my blood was all over the floor." -
Ms. Liu Guifu's First-Hand Account of Officially Sanctioned Persecution and Brutal Torture
2010-09-16My name is Liu Guifu. Shortly after I started to practise Falun Gong in 1994, all of my illnesses disappeared and my life was filled with joy. However, my life took a dramatic turn after the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began to persecute Falun Gong on July 20th, 1999. Because of my belief, I was subjected to relentless persecution. I was arrested and detained eight times, including five instances of long-term detention. I was imprisoned for a total of four years, during which time I was made to suffer unbearable tortures. I managed to escape and came to the United States. -
Older Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Gong Pijian Arrested Again
2010-09-16On August 26th, police broke into Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Gong Pijian's home, ransacked it and arrested him. The police seized Mr. Gong's MP5 and MP3 players, which were worth about 5,000 yuan. During the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) more than ten years of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners, Mr. Gong had been sent to detention centres seven times. He was sent to forced labour camps twice, sentenced to prison without legal procedures once, and his retirement pensions have been withheld for nearly four years. During one detention police locked Mr. Gong to anchors fixed to the ground (which is also called the "Death Bed"). They used four handcuffs and the one-foot chain to tightly lock his hands and feet in place. He was shackled like this for fourteen days straight. -
Ms. Li Chuanlan from Yushu City, Jilin Province, Put on Trial
2010-09-16Ms. Li Chuanlan from Yushu City, Jilin Province, was tried in court on August 25th, 2010. The court didn't allow her to speak and hastily wrapped up the trial. Ms. Li was very weak and in a wheelchair when she was brought into the courtroom. The court only allowed two family members to attend the hearing. Ms. Li had been arrested on April 29th, 2009, as she distributed Falun Gong materials. She was released after 56 days of detention. On June 29th, 2010, she was arrested again. -
Family Members Detained Upon Requesting Release of Arrested Practitioner at Brainwashing Centre
2010-09-15Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Hongxia was detained at a brainwashing centre in Jilin City. The brainwashing centre is under the supervision of the Jilin City 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Jilin City Political and Legal Committee. On August 25th, 2010, five members of Ms. Liu's family travelled to the centre to request Ms. Liu's release. The family was subsequently detained, and one member is still being held by the Shahezi Township Detention Centre officials. -
Practitioners Detained at Ehru Brainwashing Centre by 610 Office in Jianyang City, Sichuan Province
2010-09-15Officials from the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) arrested and harassed about a dozen practitioners starting on June 29th, 2010. These practitioners were subsequently detained at the Erhu Brainwashing Centre in Ziyang City. Their homes were ransacked and their personal belongings confiscated. The brainwashing centre was set up to persecute, "transform" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] and force practitioners to sign the three statements to renounce practising Falun Gong. Those who gave up Falun Gong were released. Those who resisted were sentenced to prison. -
Despite Ji Baoshan's Torture-Induced Critical Condition, Hulan Prison Officials in Heilongjiang Province Refuse Medical Parole
2010-09-14Mr. Ji Baoshan is a Falun Gong practitioner from Daluomi Town, Fangzheng County, Heilongjiang Province. After being arrested at home on January 11th, 2009, he was sentenced to five years of imprisonment and sent to Hulan Prison on June 17th, 2009. Once a healthy man, he was struggling for life after just one year of incarceration. Even though his family requested medical parole numerous times, prison officials turned them down every time. -
Female Falun Gong Practitioner Persecuted by Communist Officials in Zhucheng City, Shandong Province
2010-09-13Cao Jinhui was a Zhucheng Domestic Security Division section chief. After the persecution began, he beat numerous practitioners, causing injuries to countless people and resulting in four deaths. Cao Jinhui had a private jail set up on the third floor of the Domestic Security Division Hotel. With all the windows tightly covered with curtains, the room was equipped with a metal chair, electric batons, and a rubber club. While drunk, Cao hit my thighs and kept asking if I'd still practise Falun Gong. He didn't stop until he was exhausted. I ended up with purple bruises.
