At 8:30 a.m., September 29th, 2010, a Huangdao Court in Qingdao City began the trial of attorney and Falun Gong practitioner Wang Zhangshuo.

Only the day before, the court had notified his family that the trial would begin at 9:30 a.m., but they suddenly moved the time to an hour earlier and changed the presiding judge. Wang Zhangshuo's family hired two attorneys from Beijing, but the court would not allow lawyers from Beijing to represent him. This decision violated Chinese law and affected the outcome.

On the day of the trial, hundreds of armed police surrounded the courthouse and nearby streets. Staff of both the Public Security Bureau and National Security Bureau filled the courthouse. The court announced there would be internal activity and nobody would be allowed inside despite a previous announcement that this trial would be open to the public. Mr. Wang's wife and son were not allowed in the court; only his daughter-in-law and a friend were allowed to enter. Before the trial, they were searched three times, even having hair pins and shoes checked. They had to sit in assigned seats separated far apart, with dozens of plainclothes police monitoring them.

In the proceedings, the Huangdao Procuratorate charged Mr. Wang with "crimes of sabotaging the implementation of the State's laws by utilising an evil religious organisation", and provided mounds of false evidence. In order to cover their criminal acts during the process, the court not only forbade the lawyer his family hired to represent him, but provided a court-appointed attorney to represent him who never said a word during the trial.

Mr. Wang was a Vice Director of Xinjiang Production Construction Army Delegation No. 7 Division Middle People's Court. He is a licensed lawyer at Shandong Province Qingdao Economic development district, Hengxintong Law Firm. He is upright, fair and never takes bribes. He continued to practise Falun Gong and abide by the principles of Truth-Compassion-Forbearance when he was arrested on March 4th, 2010 by more than ten policemen from Huangdao Public Security Subdivision Bureau, the Changjianglu Police Station and the Huangdao economic development district "610" Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong).

During the court proceedings, Mr. Wang firmly rebutted the false evidence and illegal acts of the Public Security Bureau and the Procuratorate, steadfastly maintained his innocence, stated he believed in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and committed no wrongdoing at all. After the trial, no verdict was handed down.
