In late 2013, the Chinese regime claimed to shut down its notorious forced labour camp system after tremendous pressure from the international community. However, this was a change in name only; many of the camps were simply replaced by “black jails”— extralegal detention and brainwashing centres. These centres are a critical component in the Communist regime’s persecution of Falun Gong. Brainwashing supports the regime’s goal of wiping out Falun Gong by forcing its practitioners to renounce their beliefs through coercion and torture, both physical and psychological. -
Details Revealed on Severe Beating that Caused Shanxi Practitioner's Death
2014-10-01Further details about the severe beating in Jinzhong Prison that led to the death of 67-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Han Haiming have been revealed by an insider. The beating occurred on April 4th and Mr. Han was hospitalized on the same night. He died of a brain haemorrhage in the early morning of April 8th. Two days prior, Mr. Han had come under attack by the prison authorities for denouncing the “guarantee statement” he had signed under coercion and declaring that he would resume his practice of Falun Gong. -
My Story of Facing Personal Cruelty and the Death of My Dear Family Members

I have been turned from a healthy person into a frail old lady riddled with health problems. I lost control of the right side of my body, and my whole body is swollen and feels numb. The CCP persecuted my family members as well. One of my brothers and my husband lost their lives due to constant rounds of threats, extortion, and extreme anxiety. -
Elderly Ms. Li Xiaojing Died Just Months after Release from Prison
2014-09-30Ms. Li Xiaojing passed away recently, just three months after being released from prison on a medical parole. She was diagnosed with throat cancer as a result of torture in the Xinxiang Women's Prison in Henan Province. She died at the age of 69. She was arrested on September 8th, 2012, for distributing informational materials about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was held at the Kaifeng Detention Centre before being sentenced to three years in prison on June 5th, 2013. -
Not To Be Forgotten: Practitioners Tortured in Hebei Xingtai Brainwashing Centre (Part 2)
2014-09-30Wang Lihua was four months pregnant when she was arrested in March 2009. Police took her directly to the Xingtai Brainwashing Centre, where she was forced to listen to former practitioners who had been “transformed” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] slander Falun Gong. When her baby was born its body was covered with blisters. The baby died shortly after birth. The doctor told Ms. Wang, “I can't pinpoint what toxin caused this, but there is poison in the baby's body.” Ms. Wang realized she had been poisoned in the brainwashing centre. She recalled that the drinking water she had been given had been tainted yellow, and her prison cell had a foul, indescribable odour. -
Torture Methods: Police and Prison Guards Use a Wide Variety of Everyday Objects to Torture Falun Gong Practitioners
2014-09-30The prison guards and police officers frequently torture their victims in ways that produce the most pain, but leave the least visible injury, hoping that by doing so they can escape responsibility by “hiding the evidence”. The resulting injuries are sometimes so severe that practitioners are disabled or even die. Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Dong Fengshan was beaten to death just six days after he was admitted to Siping Prison, Jilin Province. When he was unable to stand up after a brutal beating, a guard drove a sharp metal shovel into his chest, and he died instantly. -
Guizhou Accountant Dies Within Two Months on Medical Parole
2014-09-23Ms. Chen Lizhi, a retired Guizhou Aviation Group accountant, died from multiple organ failure on September 9th, 2014, within two months of her medical parole from the Guizhou Women's Prison. She had been subjected to forced labour and brainwashing since her transfer there on December 19th, 2012. She was sent to the public security hospital for medical treatment earlier this year, but she didn't improve. She was released on medical parole at the end of June. She was skins and bones and couldn't take care of herself. She died at the age of 69. -
Tragic Events Unfold after Brutal Prison Beating
2014-09-21In a tragic sequence of events, prison guard Lin Danrui brutally beat Falun Gong practitioner Han Haiming at Jinzhong Prison in Shanxi Province on April 4th, 2014. Mr. Han died from his injuries four days later. Falun Gong is rooted in traditional Chinese culture, which believes that those who persecute genuine cultivators or religious believers are committing huge crimes, even worse than regular crimes. Chinese people still have a sense that those who commit bad deeds will meet with consequences in the form of retribution, not only to themselves, but possibly also to their families. A few months after Mr. Han's death, the daughter of prison guard Lin Danrui, the main perpetrator in this incident, was killed in a car accident. -
More Information on the 2002 Death of Mr. Wang Jingyi
2014-09-17Mr. Wang Jingyi was arrested and sentenced to five years in prison in August 2002, because he practised Falun Gong. Shortly after he was transferred to Huazi Prison in September, Mr. Wang died suddenly. He was 56 years old and in good health. Prison officials notified his family through the local police that he had died of an illness. However, when his family visited him a few days before his death, he showed no signs of being ill. It is strongly suspected that Mr. Wang died as a result of torture or other abuse in custody. -
At Masanjia Forced Labour Camp, “Sujiatun” Was Used as an Euphemism for Organ Harvesting
2014-09-14The Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Liaoning gained international notoriety due to an SOS letter found in a Halloween decoration kit purchased by a woman in Oregon, US, in 2011. The labour camp was closed at the end of 2013. At an open house at the Camp in July 2001, a reporter asked a detained Falun Gong practitioner: “Will you be released if you don't transform?” The practitioner answered: “I believe justice will prevail one day and I will go back home.” Furious at the practitioner's answer, a guard said to him in front of the visitors: “You are good as dead, just wait till you get sent to Sujiatun!” Sujiatun, in Shenyang City, harboured a secret concentration camp where Falun Gong practitioners' organs were removed while they were still alive. -
15 Years of Persecution Claims Accomplished Chef
2014-09-14Ms. Qu Wei, an accomplished chef, died on August 26th, 2014 at the Jinzhou No. 1 Hospital, five days after being admitted. She had been repeatedly arrested, detained and tortured for her belief in Falun Gong, including a year at the notorious Masanjia Forced Labour Camp around 2011. She never recovered her health after her most recent detention in August 2013. -
Ms. Xu Huidi Died A Month After Her Arrest
2014-09-14Ms. Xu Huidi died on June 23rd, 2014, a month after being arrested on May 20th. She had been detained at the Shenyang No. 1 Detention Centre. The detention centre claimed that she died of a heart attack. Her family demanded an explanation, as they were not aware of Ms. Xu having any health issues prior to her arrest. -
Mr. Li Chunzheng Died the Day After His Release
2014-09-11Mr. Li Chunzheng died on March 31st, a day after he was released. Local authorities demanded that his body be cremated within three days. Mr. Li's entire body was swollen, and his ankles had deep dents. His nasal and mouth had a lot of blood clots. His right elbow had a green bump. Many purple dots covered his chest. He was emaciated and could barely move. His family asked for his diagnosis and medical records, but the hospital staff refused to provide any. -
Mr. Liu Liyan from Hunan Province Passes Away in Hospital from Torture-Inflicted Wounds
2014-09-09Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Liyan died in Changsha No. 2 Affiliated Hospital, Hunan Province, on June 13th, 2014. He was taken to the hospital from Xiangtan County Detention Centre, where it appears he was tortured to the brink of death. His family demanded an autopsy that revealed bruises, bleeding in the brain and injury to his internal organs. -
Further Information on the Death of Ms. Zhang Shuxian in Police Custody
2014-09-08On August 7th, 2014 police officers from the Tumen City Domestic Security Division arrested Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Shuxian. On August 8th, only one day after the arrest, Ms. Zhang’s family was informed of her death. According to information received by Minghui.org, Ms. Zhang’s remains were covered in bruises and wounds. There was a footprint on her back which appeared to be the result of a heavy kick.
