Mr. Liu Liyan, 63, Dies of Beating Injuries Sustained in Detention Centre

Less than a year after his most recent arrest for speaking out against the persecution of Falun Gong, 63-year-old Mr. Liu Liyan passed away at a Changsha City hospital. His death is suspected to be the result of brutal beatings in the Xiangtan County Detention Centre in Hunan Province. At the hospital, Mr. Liu's family found that his entire body was wrapped in gauze with only his head exposed. A follow-up forensic investigation indicated brain and internal organ damage, and his body was covered with dark bruises. -
Torture and Killing of Falun Gong Practitioners Continues in Brainwashing Centres in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture
2014-06-21Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) banned Falun Gong and launched the persecution against the practice in 1999, more than 150 brainwashing centres have been set up nationwide for the sole purpose of brainwashing and “transforming” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] Falun Gong practitioners. Yanbian is a Korean Autonomous Prefecture in southeastern Jilin Province in northern China. Its capital Yanji City is ranked as one of the top 10 regions in China with the highest number of death cases within the brainwashing system. -
The Chinese Communist Party Uses the Tiger Bench Device to Torture Falun Gong Practitioners
2014-06-15Nineteen per cent of Falun Gong practitioners who were tortured to death in the persecution were subjected to the tiger bench torture. In October 2008, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yu Ming was transferred to Masanjia Labour Camp. Masanjia guards viciously beat Mr. Yu, shocked him with electric batons and hung him up by handcuffs for several days. He was imprisoned in a custom-made iron cage for three months in which he could not stand up or lie down. Mr. Yu Ming was bound to the tiger bench for 12 days and lost consciousness several times during the torture. -

The Hidden Truth: Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Li Zhiqin Was Beaten to Death
2014-06-03Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Zhiqin died on September 12th, 2007. His death was a result of being violently abused by officers from the police department and Domestic Security Division, who broke into his home. Mr. Li's family asked for compensation, but the Ningjin Police Department repeatedly fabricated information to hide the real cause of Mr. Li's death. -
Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Zhu Jinrui's Suspicious Death in Bei'an Prison
2014-06-02Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhu Jinrui was serving a four-year prison term at Bei'an Prison when he passed away on May 6th, 2014. He was sentenced to prison in April 2013. His family was notified that he had died of a sudden heart attack. When his wife and several relatives went to the prison, they saw traces of blood around his mouth. During the whole process at the prison, the guards and prison officials were closely monitoring them. While overcome with grief, Mr. Zhu's family members were deceived into agreeing with the prison's arrangement to have his body cremated immediately without further investigation. -
Brainwashing Centres Continue Former Labour Camps’ Role in the Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners
2014-06-02Although the labour camp system in China has been closed down, the systematic persecution of prisoners of conscience, especially Falun Gong practitioners, continues in China to this day. Brainwashing centres have taken the place of labour camps and have become the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) primary locations where Falun Gong practitioners are incarcerated and tortured. In March and April 2014, forty-seven practitioners in Beijing were arrested and held in brainwashing centres. One practitioner was tortured to death in custody. -

Ms. Yang Chunling Dies as a Result of Torture and Abuse for Tapping into a TV Network to Broadcast Falun Gong Programmes
2014-05-25Falun Gong stories are the most intensively censored information by the Chinese communist regime since it banned the practice. Ms. Yang Chunling defied this censorship by tapping into a cable television network and playing a video about the regime's infamous history and its persecution of Falun Gong. She recently paid the ultimate price for having the courage to overcome the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)'s censorship and telling people about the goodness of Falun Gong. The CCP authorities found her and arrested her soon after the broadcast. The police viciously beat her and sentenced her to 7 years in prison. She passed away on April 2, 2014, one year after her release. -
Ms. Yang Shifen Dies in Fujian Province Two Days after Being Released, Six More Practitioners Arrested
2014-05-25One of the more than 10 practitioners arrested earlier this year in Fujian Province, Ms. Yang Shifen from Shishi City, died on March 9th, 2014, two days after being released from a detention centre. The large-scale, province-wide arrests have not eased, as six more Falun Gong practitioners were recently arrested. Ms. Yang Shifeng had been repeatedly harassed by local Chinese Communist Party (CCP) during the past few years. Her home was ransacked multiple times and her eldest daughter has also been arrested. -
Mother Dies, Daughter Who Suffered a Mental Collapse Due to Torture Now on Her Own
2014-05-25Ms. Hu Fengying, 65, died on May 6th, 2014, after experiencing long-term persecution for practising Falun Gong. Ms. Hu was arrested, then held at a detention centre and a brainwashing centre. She later became paralysed. She succumbed to the tremendous pressure and died. Her daughter, who suffered a mental collapse due to torture, is now on her own. -
Primary School Teacher Ms. Zhou Zequn Dies as a Result of Persecution
2014-05-20Retired teacher Ms. Zhou Zequn, 70, died as a result of torture on May 2nd, 2014. She had been sentenced to a four-year prison term at Chongqing Women's Prison in 2011, due to her belief in Falun Gong. Ms. Zhou's family was notified by prison guards on February 18th, 2014, to come and take her home. They family found out that Ms. Zhou had been tortured. She could no longer walk and had blood in her urine and stools. She had also been injected with unidentified drugs that destroy the central nervous system. She had lost her memory and could no longer recognize any words. -
Bedridden Practitioner Passes Away After Witnessing Fellow Practitioners' Arrest
2014-05-19Police broke into the home of bedridden Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhao Lije, in her 60s, on April 12th, 2014, and arrested five practitioners who were taking care of her. The police ransacked Ms. Zhao's home and confiscated a computer, 1,000 yuan, and Falun Gong books and materials. Ms. Lijie passed away on April 17th, five days after the police arrested the five practitioners. -
Mr. Wang Wenzhang from Liaoning Province Passed Away as a Result of Persecution
2014-05-19Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Wenzhang was persecuted repeatedly for upholding his practice of Falun Gong. Most recently he was arrested and sentenced to four years in prison in March 2009. He was brutally tortured in Dongling Prison and suffered a stroke. He was released on bail for medical treatment in early 2013. It was too late however, and within the next six months Mr. Wang became paralyzed. On March 28th, 2014, at the age of 65, he lost his life. -
Summary Report: Death Cases of Falun Gong Practitioners in Beijing (Part II)
2014-05-06A witness recounted how a twenty-year-old woman Falun Gong practitioner in Tuanhe Labour Camp was killed through repeated punitive forced-feedings. The girl was tied to a bed in the spread eagle position and several inmates were ordered to sit on her chest, legs and arms. She was force-fed with two basins of salty water. One inmate kicked her hard in the abdomen. They repeated the same forced-feeding and kicking. The witness saw her again a couple of days later. She had suffered a mental collapse. Her face looked greenish and covered with sores. She was tortured even more brutally on the fourth day and died on the eighth day.
