    Simply because she practises Falun Gong and tries to be a good person, Ms. Jiang Lanying has been arrested by communist regime agents many times. She was first detained in a forced labour camp for two years. The second time she was sentenced to five years in prison, and the third time she was detained in a labour camp for more than two years. During these twelve-and-a-half years from 1999 to 2012, Ms. Jiang spent a total of nine years detained in either a brainwashing centre, a detention centre, a prison, or a forced labour camp. During the remaining two years, she was monitored and harassed. She is 46 years old this year, and she earns barely enough to sustain herself and her elderly mother.
  • Ms. He Qiuling, 54, from Xian Arrested, Her Mother Kicked While Visiting Her

    When Ms. He Qiuling went to a village to explain the facts about Falun Gong, a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) staff member reported her to the police, and she was arrested and taken to a brainwashing centre in June 2011. Ms. He's elderly mother, who is in her 70s, went to visit her daughter. A group of people surrounded her. The director searched her body, then kicked her to the ground. Ms. He’s mother was very distressed. Ms. He was subsequently sent to the Shaanxi Women's Forced Labour Camp.
  • Older Falun Gong Practitioner Dr. Liu Deqing Dies from Torture in Heilongjiang Women's Prison

    Ms. Liu Deqing, about 60, a doctor at the Hailun Health Hospital, was persecuted in Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison for more than two years because she practised Falun Gong. Her belly and entire body were swollen as a result of torture and abuse suffered in detention. Because the prison didn't want to take responsibility for her condition, she was sent back to Hailun City on February 1st, 2011. Ms. Liu could not recover her health, and she died on November 27th.
  • Ms. Dai Qiongxian's Account of Persecution in Yunnan No. 2 Women's Prison

    On August 26th, 2008, Ms. Dai Qiongxian was arrested by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities while she was handing out Shen Yun performance DVDs that showed the beauty of traditional Chinese culture, which has been systematically destroyed by the ruling communist regime over the past 60 years. On March 4th, 2009, Ms. Dai was put on trial without her family being notified. She was sentenced to three years in prison. Since then, she has endured brutal persecution in the Ninth Prison District of Yunnan No. 2 Women's Prison. Prior to the 2008 arrest and subsequent sentencing, Ms. Dai was arrested in 2000 and sentenced to forced labour and was brutally treated in Yunnan Women's Forced Labour Camp.
  • Outstanding Teacher Sentenced to Ten Years in Prison

    Ms. Wu Jinling is an outstanding teacher from Taigu County No. 2 Middle School. She is also the director of the Mental Health Education Centre and a licensed psychologist. Her outstanding performance in her job won her numerous awards and excellent reviews from students and parents. However, because she practises Falun Gong the vice principle of the school held Ms. Wu until 2 a.m. on June 16th, 2010. She was suspended from teaching. On January 30th, 2011, police raided Ms. Wu's home and arrested her. Ms. Wu was sentenced to ten years and is being held in the Shanxi Woman's Prison.
  • Three Falun Gong Practitioners Face Trial After Six-month Detention

    Falun Gong practitioners Yao Juying, Tang Renya, and Gao Yuzhen, were arrested by police on June 30th, 2011, and have been detained since. Ms. Yao is currently being detained in the Baoshan District Detention Centre. When Ms. Yao's lawyer visited her in the detention centre, Yang Feiyue threatened the lawyer to give up the case and called his efforts useless. Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Tang Renya, in his 60s, was previously tortured in prison for practising Falun Gong.
  • Gangbei Prison Officials Refuse to Release Engineer Zhou Xiangyang, Who Is In Critical Condition

    It has been learned that Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhou Xiangyang who was brutally tortured in detention, had been detained in the internal hospital of Gangbei Prison. He was arrested on March 5th, 2011 and taken to Gangbei Prison. The guards brutally tortured him by restraining him in painful postures. They stretched his arms and legs into different positions, and then shackled them to iron hoops on the floor for extended periods of time. He could not straighten up after being released from the restraints. In addition, the guards beat and shocked him with electric batons. He is believed to be in critical condition because of severe torture suffered in prison. However, prison officials still refuse to release him.
  • Police Officer Li Youmin of Quzhou County, Hebei Province Arrests Pregnant Woman and Leaves Her Children Behind

    Ms. Li Xuemei, 31, was reported to the police for telling people the facts about Falun Gong on a web chat. On August 9th, 2011, police broke into her home. They showed no identification, arrested her, and confiscated her computer, printer, two mobile phones, and Falun Gong books and materials. Ms. Li was interrogated until midnight before being released. On December 4th, police came again to Ms. Li's home and dragged her out. Ms. Li Xuemei was seven months pregnant, and her other two children, ages six and two, were terrified. By this time, Ms. Li Xuemei had been dragged down the corridor with little clothes on and barefoot. Three men lifted her up and forcibly carried her downstairs. Police drove her to Nanliyue Police Station. Throughout the process, pregnant Ms. Li Xuemei was dragged around in the heavy snow barefoot and in thin clothes.
  • Mr. Zhao Xianghai Detained in Psychiatric Hospital for Four Years - Mother Denied Visits

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhao Xianghai was placed in a psychiatric hospital in 2007. He has been tortured there for more than four years and injected with unknown substances. He is physically very weak. Recently, when his mother went to visit him, she was rudely driven out by the hospital staff and left without seeing her son.
  • Father Still Imprisoned, Mother Torture to Death

    Ever since Jiajia was a young girl, her family has been torn apart by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Her father, Mr. Wang Yunlong, has been continuously persecuted by the CCP since July, 1999 for his belief in Falun Gong, and was forced to leave home to avoid persecution. Her mother, Ms. Wang Liqun, also a practitioner, had to leave home to avoid being arrested in 2002. When Jiajia was 22 years old, she heard that her mother had died as a result of torture in Shuangcheng Detention Centre. Over 100 officers went to a practitioner's home in Shuangcheng on November 13th, 2011. They threw tear gas into the house, leaving the practitioners choking and arrested them. Jiajia's father was one of them. He is now being held in Shuangcheng No. 2 Detention Centre.
  • Firsthand Account: Ms. Zhou Ling Tortured in Hunan Women's Prison

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhou Ling was arrested by police in May 2008. She was sentenced to three years in Hunan Women's Prison, where she was subjected to violent brainwashing sessions, beatings and torture. She was forced to stand for 49 straight days. She recounts: "They tried to force us to write out the prison rules, regulations, and songs praising the Communist Party. I refused to cooperate, so they surrounded me and began kicking and punching me. I was forced to stand for long periods of time and was deprived of sleep for the first 12 days. For the next 37 days, I was forced to stand 24 hours a day."
  • Former Tianjin Resident Sent to Forced Labour Camp for Distributing New Year's Blessings

    On January 11th, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Xiuqing went to Doujiazhuang to distribute New Year's blessing pictures with information about Falun Gong. She was reported to police by members of Doujiazhuang Joint Guard Team. Officers from the Taiping Town Police Station took her away. She was then transferred to the Detention Centre of Dagang Police Department. When Ms. Liu’s husband went to Dagang Police Department to bring her a change of clothes the guard on duty told him there was no detainee named Liu Xiuqing. Her husband then went to the Taiping Town Police Station and officials told him that Ms. Liu had been sentenced to one year of forced labour, because she would not sign the statement to give up Falun Gong.
  • Qin Rongqian Tortured for Seeking Justice for Her Parents and Younger Sister

    On February 26th, 2010, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Qin Yueming was tortured to death in Jiamusi Prison. Ms. Wang Xiuqing, Qin Yueming's wife, and their two daughters endured many difficulties going to many different government offices to appeal for her husband, but no one would accept her case. On November 13th, 2011, Ms. Wang and her younger daughter, Qin Hailong, were arrested again and sent to Qianjin Forced Labour Camp. Her elder daughter, Ms. Qin Rongqian, had to spend her days going to the courthouse, labour camp, detention centre, and the Public Security Bureau, seeking justice for her parents and younger sister. Recently, Qin Rongqian suffered unreasonable hostile treatment several times at the hands of the police at the Qianjin Forced Labour Camp for requesting an administrative reconsideration for her mother and younger sister's forced labour camp sentence.
  • Ms. Zhuang Wei from Pudong, Shanghai Arrested

    Ms. Zhuang Wei has been detained in the New Pudong District Detention Centre since she was arrested by police on December 13th, 2011. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP)Procuratorate issued the arrest approval only recently. She is most likely facing extended prison time. Her attorney went to the detention centre to visit her on January 16th.
  • Retired Senior Prosecutor Arrested and Detained for Removing Posters That Slandered Falun Gong

    Ms. Zeng Yumei, 56, a retired senior prosecutor with the Gansu Province Procuratorate, was arrested with another Falun Gong practitioner in late September 2011 for removing posters that slandered Falun Gong. The posters were put up by the Wuquan Neighbourhood Committee in Lanzhou City to incite hatred towards the practice. She was forced to undergo brainwashing sessions and then sentenced to one year of forced labour. She is still being detained.
