Update on the Persecution of Numerous Falun Gong Practitioners in Chengde, Hebei

On August 10th, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Sun Yang was arrested at his hardware store by the Chengde police. Practitioners Zhao Haihui, Wu Chonghua, Feng Zhonghou, and Li Ying were also arrested. Since May police in the Chengde area started a new round of arresting Falun Gong practitioners. Residential committees recruited unemployed people to assist in “re-educating” (brainwashing) Falun Gong practitioners. Former practitioners who believed the false propaganda concocted by the Communist regime were instructed to spread lies and distort opinions about Falun Gong. So far more than 30 practitioners have been arrested, undergone brainwashing tactics on a one-to-one basis, and been forced to write the three statements to renounce their beliefs. -
Doctor Liu Tianying from Yilan County, Heilongjiang Province Arrested
2011-09-07On August 3rd, police and officials ransacked the home of Ms. Liu Tianying. They found Falun Gong books and informational materials about Falun Gong. They then arrested her and took her to the Public Security Bureau in Yilan County. Ms. Liu Tianying is a doctor in her village. Those who know her consider her a selfless, kind person. She is good at her work, and provides food and accommodation for patients who need to travel far to see her. -
Firsthand Account: Wang Ping from Laizhou City, Shandong Province, Brutally Beaten and Tortured
2011-09-07Ms. Wang Ping began to practise Falun Gong in 1996. In 2006, she was arrested by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) police officers and brutally beaten. After that she was sent to Wang Village Forced Labour Camp. She recounts: "Each day I had to work over a dozen hours on intensive slave labour. Even women in their 70s had to work every day. If they could not finish their work, they had to work extra hours. Some of them could only sleep 2-3 hours a night. Even a physically strong person could not endure that." -
Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Zhang Jun, 65, Forced to Leave Home to Avoid Arrest and Torture
2011-09-07Ms. Zhang Jun began firmly believes in Falun Gong and the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, thus the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) has persecuted her numerous times. Her younger son developed a mental illness after being brutally beaten. Most recently, in July 2011, 610 Office agent Liang Shibin and six plainclothes officers broke into Ms. Zhang's home, forcing her to find another place to live. Her family was also harassed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials. -
A Falun Gong Practitioner’s Personal Account of Being Tortured for Six Days by Helong City Police in Jilin Province
2011-09-06Agents from the Helong City Domestic Security Division in the Yanbian Autonomous Region of Jilin Province arrested several local Falun Gong practitioners on May 26th, 2011. They then tortured and interrogated them. One of the practitioners who was considered a primary target was brutalised for six days non-stop. He recounts: "Police officer Gao Zhenhua shackled my feet and hung me upside down against a wall. During the interrogation, he kicked me at will." -
Older Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Wang Nuanrong from Tonghua County, Jilin Province, Arrested Again
2011-09-06On July 17th, Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Wang Nuanrong and Mr. Wang Peichen were arrested by police. Their home was ransacked. Mr. Wang Nuanrong is Mr. Wang Peichen's father. After they were arrested, a relative of Wang Peichen's went to the police department to see him, but the guards turned her away. The police threatened her, saying that Mr. Wang Peichen would be sentenced and Mr. Wang Nuanrong would be held in a forced labour camp. -
Three Farmers from Jingle County, Shanxi Province Sentenced to Forced Labour
2011-09-06On August 16th, three practitioners Mr. Wang Jiuhuan, 67 years old; Mr. Shang Xiwei, 56 years old; and Mr. Shang Cunwei, 58 years old from Shenjia Village in Shanxi Province were taken away by County and Town police and detained in the county detention centre. They have been sentenced to forced labour. Mr. Wang, who is nearly 70 years old, was tortured during interrogation. His arrest has brought pain to his family, who cannot understand why this innocent man was detained. -
Ms. Sun Lanping from Lanzhou City Arrested Again, Taken to Gongjiawan Brainwashing Centre
2011-09-03On July 26th, 2011, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Sun Lanping was taking care of her disabled mother, in her mother's home. She was about to return home when police arrested her and took her to the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Centre. Not long after 8:00 p.m., her family came to the brainwashing centre to see her, but they were denied visitation. Her current status is unknown. Ms. Sun was persecuted on several occasions over the past ten years. She was arrested by police in June 2001. She was then taken to the Lanzhou Dashaping Detention Centre for six weeks. Following her detention, she was imprisoned at the Pingantai First Forced Labour Camp for one year and six months. -
A Female Farmer from Tancheng County, Shandong Province Arrested Again After Having Been Released from a Three-Year Forced Labour Term
2011-09-03Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wu Shaoxia was sentenced to a three-year forced labour term in 2008 and was released in late 2010. She was arrested again in August 2011. The police also arrested her non-practitioner daughter and her grandsons, one about three years old and the other about a year old. The police detained her daughter and grandsons for half a day before releasing them but continue to detain Ms. Wu. -
After Serving Two Forced Labour Camp Terms, Mr. Hao Fengyi from Longhua County, Hebei Province is Arrested Again
2011-09-02Mr. Hao started practising Falun Gong in 1996, and has benefited both physically and mentally from the practice. On July 20th, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began the persecution of Falun Gong, and Mr. Hao has since been arrested and harassed many times. He was held in a forced labour camp twice. On August 8th, 2011, officers from the Domestic Security Division of Chengde Police Department arrested him again. He has four children, and the youngest is only eight-months old. His mother is in her seventies. His wife cares for the farm and the family by herself. Mr. Hao is being held at the Shuangluan Brainwashing Centre. -
Mr. Ni Zhenxuan from Shijiazhuang City Sentenced to Three and a Half Years of Forced Labour
2011-09-02Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Ni Zhenxuan, 66, was sentenced to three and a half years of forced labour, from March 5th, 2011 to September 4th, 2014. The police ransacked Mr. Ni's home and confiscated their personal belongings, including a satellite TV dish, a satellite TV receiver, and a computer. Later that day, the police broke into Mr. Ni’s sofa factory and confiscated printing equipment. Mr. Ni was taken into custody at his workplace. He has announced his intention to appeal. -
Mr. Sun Hui and His Daughter Ms. Sun Ruyan Arrested Again--Three Family Members in Prison
2011-09-02Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Sun Ruyan, 25, was arrested at her workplace on August 16th. Ms. Sun has a very good reputation and all her colleagues have a very high opinion of her. They feel that she is very capable and is considerate of others. Even the director of the transportation department, who helped the police arrest her, said she is a good person. Her father, Mr. Sun Hui, was arrested at the same time at his workplace. In 2009, Ms. Sun's mother, Ms. Hu Qili, had been sentenced to four years in prison. Their entire family has now been arrested and detained. -
Ms. Xie Hong from Hefei City Is Arrested Again
2011-09-02Ms. Xie Hong is a Falun Gong practitioner who lives in Hefei City, Anhui Province. On June 24th, 2011, the police broke into her home, searched it, and arrested her. Her current whereabouts are unknown. Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to persecute Falun Gong on July 20th, 1999, she has been arrested and detained several times. Ms. Xie was arrested in March 2008. A bag full of leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong was found in her possession. She was first detained for 15 days and was then sent to a brainwashing session. She was later sentenced to one year of forced labour. -
Ms. Fu Meilin From Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province Tortured
2011-09-01Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Fu Meilin was arrested by police while walking on a street on May 26th, because she carried Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution. She was taken to the Hongsheng Police Station in Yichun. The officers slapped her face, put her on a Tiger Bench and violently stretched her fingers. She was later transferred to the Wumahe Detention Centre where she began a hunger strike to protest the persecution. Two weeks later, she was taken to the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Forced Labour Camp. The camp authorities refused to admit her because she could not pass the physical. -
Three Female Falun Gong Practitioners in Baoding City Sentenced to Forced Labour
2011-08-31On August 9th, three Falun Gong practitioners in Baoding City of Hebei Province were sentenced to forced labour and were taken to Hebei Women's Forced Labour Camp in Shijiazhuang City. On July 27th police arrested Ms. Wang while she was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong to passersby on the street. Around 8:30 pm four officers broke into Ms. Wang's home and took her cash and some of her personal belongings. Ms. Wang was detained at the police station overnight. During the process of interrogation, Zhang Dianhai, the deputy head of that police station, slapped her face twice.
