  • Mudanjiang Railroad Employee Mr. Zheng Jingjiang Taken to the Yichun Brainwashing Centre

    On September 6th, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zheng Jingjiang was taken to the Yichun Brainwashing Centre by leaders from his work unit, and police. Another employee, Mr. Zhan Xingchao, who also practises Falun Gong, was arrested on the same day. The Yichun Brainwashing Centre was set up by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities. It is a secret prison specially used to brainwash Falun Gong practitioners in an attempt to force them to renounce their belief. Many Falun Gong practitioners from Yichun have been severely persecuted both physically and mentally in the brainwashing centre. Their basic freedom and human rights are taken away and as part of the brainwashing, practitioners are forced to watch videos and read literature that slander Falun Gong.
  • Senior Nurse Arrested Again after Being Tortured in Labour Camp Twice

    Former nurse Ms. Wang Lu's home was ransacked soon after she went to Fuyang City to celebrate the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival (September 12th) with her father. She went to the Linquan County People’s Hospital on September 14th, preparing for the admittance procedures and to look after her older brother who suffered a cerebral haemorrhage. However, the police followed and arrested her. She is currently being detained and persecuted in Bengbu City.
  • Mr. Men Bingcheng and His Family Persecuted in Dongguang County, Hebei Province

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Men Bingcheng often helps others. Fellow villagers called him “Number One Good Samaritan.” But since the persecution of Falun Gong, he and his family have suffered tremendously. After the persecution started, the couple went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. Their names ended up on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials' “blacklist,” so they were constantly harassed.

    In BBC and Chinese official reports, on April 3rd, 2002, the Chinese government arranged 12 Chinese and international media to interview Wang Jindong and others. BBC's report "Arranged Interview" stated, "The Chinese government had always refused any International media to interview on the self-immolation event, yet all of a sudden, foreign reporters were arranged to interview the self-immolation survivors." BBC's special reporter also said that the Chinese government's intention of this arranged interview was obviously an effort to prove the legitimacy of the government's persecution towards Falun Gong.
  • Village Doctor Ms. Liu Yanmei Arrested Again after Having Been Subjected to Torture Numerous Times

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Yanmei was arrested on September 8th. Her whereabouts are unknown. Previously, Ms. Liu was arrested for distributing materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong on May 23rd, 2006, and sentenced to three years of forced labour on May 30th, 2006. She was taken to the Shandong Province No.1 Women's Forced Labour Camp and severely tortured. For example, she was forced to stay up all night until the early morning. This regime lasted until she was released in June 2009. The guards tied her to an iron chair and taped her mouth shut for nine days. Her legs and feet swelled terribly. During the first two days her legs and feet hurt, then they became completely numb.
  • Twenty-Eight Practitioners Incarcerated in the Nan'an District Brainwashing Centre in Chongqing

    Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents in Chongqing organized and instructed government agencies in districts and counties under its jurisdiction to hold brainwashing sessions, in an attempt to force Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. From June 2011 to August 5th, the Nan'an District CCP agents held a brainwashing session at the Nandi Resort. They arrested 28 practitioners and forced them to participate in it.
  • Ms. Kui Fenglan in Critical Condition after Torture in Hebei Province Women's Prison

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Kui Fenglan, 57, was arrested in August 2007 and sentenced to five years in prison by the Communist regime. She was sent to Hebei Province Women's Prison in 2008, where she was repeatedly abused as she refused to renounce Falun Gong. She is now in critical condition. In 2008, guards ordered the inmates to tie up Ms. Kui's arms and legs for long periods of time just because she persisted in doing the Falun Gong exercises.
  • Ms. Zhang Jin from Tangshan City Subjected to Forced Labour

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Jin was arrested on August 11th for no reason and detained for two weeks. She was arrested again on September 20th by police and subjected to a one-year forced labour term. She is currently in the Kaiping Forced Labour Camp Brainwashing Centre. In 2008, Ms. Zhang was sent to the Shijiazhuang Women's Forced Labour Camp. The guards verbally abused her daily. She held a hunger strike three times to resist the persecution, but was force-fed.

    Li Yuqiang is a senior reporter for CCTV's news show Focal Point. Since the persecution began in 1999 she has been responsible for producing programmes defaming Falun Gong, including several interview programmes. In early 2002, as Li was interviewing people at the Tuanhe Labour Camp about the self-immolation, one Falun Gong prisoner, Zhao Ming, raised the matter of the Sprite bottle. Li responded to the quirk candidly, saying, “We shot that scene after the fact. If it looks suspicious we’ll stop showing it.” She then tried to argue that the scene was arranged in an attempt to prove to the audience that Falun Gong practitioners conducted the self-immolation.
  • Mr. Chen Xin Imprisoned for Nine Years, Jinzhou Nanshan Prison Denied His Mother's Visitation

    Mr. Chen Xin, 42, had hepatitis B prior to practising Falun Gong. Since he started practising Falun Gong, his illness disappeared without a trace. Nine years ago, Mr. Chen was sentenced to 13 years in prison for practising Falun Gong. He was transferred to the Jinzhou City Nanshan Prison four years ago. He is currently being incarcerated in the prison's First Ward. Mr. Chen was in “strict management” for a long time just because he refused to renounce Falun Gong. It's been two years since his family last saw him. In order to force practitioners to “transform” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong], the prison administration used many different torture methods. Warden Cui Yuanqi moved to the First Ward to try to “transform” Mr. Chen.
  • Brutally Beaten and Tortured, Elderly Ms. Zhao Yinglie from Jilin City Is Arrested Again and Sentenced to Forced Labour

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhao Yinglie was arrested by police when she exposed the persecution of Falun Gong to people on Tianjin Street on September 6th. The police sent her to the Jilin City Detention Centre and also ransacked her home. Ms. Zhao was sentenced to forced labour and is currently detained in the Heizuizi Forced Labour Camp in Jilin Province. Ms. Zhao is 64 years old, and has been arrested twice. She was first arrested when she distributed flyers about Falun Gong near Jilin Prison. That time she was subjected to severe torture and beatings, which caused extensive harm to her mind and body.
  • Ms. Zhang Yuqin and Ms. Yi Xueli from Shenqiu County, Henan Province Subjected to Trial

    Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Zhang Yuqin and Ms. Yi Xueli were taken into custody when they exposed the persecution of Falun Gong on May 1st, 2011. Currently they are still being detained in the Shenqiu County Detention Centre. On September 21st the authorities tried them in court and had the courthouse gate guarded by armed police to block anyone else from attending the trial. Ms. Zhang was subjected to various forms of persecution, and her health was poor.

    According to the January 30th Xinhua article, the so-called self-immolators went to Tiananmen in the morning but could not enter into the square, so they waited around until "in the afternoon when the square reopened" after which they walked in and began to set themselves on fire. Yet in "Wang Jindong's Personal Statement...," Wang states that the group went to someone's house in the morning to fill up the bottles with petrol. They all left the house at 2:30 p.m., 11 minutes before the incident occurred, and took a taxi to Tiananmen.
  • 65-Year-Old Mr. Liang Weisheng from Beijing Faces Sentencing

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liang Weisheng was arrested on April 26th, 2011. He was first held in the Nihe Detention Centre and then transferred to the No. 7 Section of the Beijing Police Department, and finally transferred back to the Nihe Detention Centre in August. Shunyi Domestic Security Division officers and 610 Office agents (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) collaborated with the Procuratorate in an attempt to have the court officials sentence Mr. Liang to imprisonment. It has been nearly five months since Mr. Liang was arrested. The domestic security division officers have forbidden his family to visit him.
  • Ms. Chen Min Severely Persecuted at Harbin Women's Forced Labour Camp

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Chen Min, 39, was sentenced to forced labour for one and a half years by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities, for distributing materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. She has suffered severe persecution since being taken to Harbin Women's Rehabilitation Labour Camp. The guards locked her up in a solitary confinement cell and forced her to sit on a small stool for prolonged periods of time. She was forced to get up before 5:00 a.m. and not allowed to go to bed before 10:00 p.m. She was forced to do slave labour. Ms. Chen lost consciousness and fell on her way upstairs on the morning of August 18th.
