Ms. Kui Fenglan, 57, a Falun Gong practitioner from Laishui County, Hebei Province, was arrested in August 2007 and sentenced to five years in prison by the Communist regime. She was sent to Hebei Province Women's Prison in 2008, where she was repeatedly abused as she refused to renounce Falun Gong. She is now in critical condition.

In 2008, Feng Huizhi, head of the Second Ward, and the other guards ordered the inmates to tie up Ms. Kui's arms and legs for long periods of time just because she persisted in doing the Falun Gong exercises. They then ordered inmates with mental disorders to monitor her. The inmates would beat Ms. Kui and kick her if anything didn't go as they wished.

From March 9th to July 14th, 2009, Duan Xuefeng and other Second Ward guards locked Ms. Kui in a cell and forced her to go through the brainwashing sessions. As Ms. Kui refused to “transform,” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] she was hung up by handcuffs from the window for eight days. Ms. Kui went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. The inmates brutally force-fed her under the guards' orders. Ms. Kui couldn't walk after that.

Around November 20th, 2009, in order to force Ms. Kui to write the statements to renounce Falun Gong, the Second Ward guards locked Ms. Kui in a conference room. She was indoctrinated by Chen Aihong and other collaborators (former practitioners, brainwashed against Falun Gong, made to assist in brainwashing and torturing practitioners). She was also deprived of sleep for several days, which caused her to become severely disoriented.

In May 2011, under the order of deputy warden Yang Yufen and Education Section chief Ge Shuguang, the prison established an “Enforced Management Ward” to forcibly brainwash those practitioners who are determined and refuse to renounce Falun Gong. Ms. Kui was again locked in solitary confinement from June 9th to August 29th, 2011. She was subjected to brainwashing by Yang Yanping and other collaborators. This lasted for more than 80 days. Ms. Kui went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution and became very weak. She was once given six bottles of intravenous fluid. She is now on the verge of death.

Ms. Kui benefited greatly from practising Falun Gong. A housewife, she changed from being a person who could hardly read a word to being able to read all of the Falun Gong book, Zhuan Falun, which has 332 pages, within several days. She became healthy and didn't need to take any medication after she started practising Falun Gong. Her family relationships became harmonious. However, because she practised Falun Gong, Ms. Kui has been detained numerous times at detention centres and forced labour camps, and county and village police have frequently gone to her home to threaten her. As a result of the ongoing persecution, she and her family have been negatively impacted both financially and mentally, and their lives have been totally disrupted.
