  • Mr. Zhang Chuanbao, 49, Dies After Years of Persecution

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Chuanbao, 49, refused to give up his Falun Gong practice and wrote the words "Falun Gong is Good" on an overpass one night in 2000. Three officers saw him and beat him, and took him to a detention centre, where he was beaten by other inmates. In 2001, he was detained again and forced to sign statements not to practise Falun Gong any more. His health steadily declined after his release. In the winter of 2009, he had to stay in a hospital for a month but did not improve. He died on April 8th, 2010 at the age of 49.
  • Ms. Song Shuye, 60, Dies after Enduring over 10 Years of Persecution and Torture

    In 2001, because Ms. Song Shuye wrote a public letter to appeal against the persecution of Falun Gong, she was sent to the No. 2 Labour Education Centre of Tangshan City for three years and brutally tortured. In 2004, because her blood pressure was dangerously high, Ms. Song was released. She had many injuries to her body and head as the result of the brutal torture she endured in custody. She soon became paralysed, lost vision in both eyes, and had bedsores. She died in April 2010.
  • Three Generations of a Family Suffer Endless Persecution

    All the members of a three-generation family in Dougou Village, Qinan County, Shandong Province, practise Falun Gong. This family has been subjected to endless persecution ever since July 20th,1999. The head of the family, 72-year-old Nie Hongting, was sentenced to forced labour, as were his son and daughter-in-law, who are still serving terms at labour camps. Mr. Nie Hongting's wife died after suffering long-term persecution, and his granddaughter was expelled from school in 2005.
  • Mr. Ma Yunxian, 70, Dies After Suffering Extensive Persecution in Henan Province

    Mr. Ma Yunxian and his wife Luo Shuhua began practising Falun Gong in March 1998 and attained good health and harmony in their family. After the persecution against Falun Gong practitioners by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began on July 20th, 1999, Mr. Ma's work unit froze his and his wife's retirement pension. The couple had to rely on their relatives for financial assistance. In July 2004, Mr. Ma was arrested by police. He managed to escape and began a life of homelessness until he returned home in 2006. After suffering such an extended period of persecution, Mr. Ma passed away in April of 2008. He was 70 years old. Luo Shuhua, has faced many counts of imprisonment, torture, and seizure of property.
  • Another Participant in the 2002 Falun Gong Cable TV Broadcasts in Changchun City Dies in Custody

    Mr. Liang Zhenxing was among those who participated in a successful attempt to broadcast videos explaining the true situation about the persecution of Falun Gong over cable TV in China's Changchun City in 2002. Mr. Liang, who suffered terrible torture in custody, died on May 1st, 2010 in Gongzhuling Central Hospital under surveillance of Gongzhuling City Prison guards.
  • Facts Surrounding the Death of 60-Year-Old Mr. Lu Guanglin in Panjin City Prison, Liaoning Province

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Lu Guanglin was arrested by police on March 15th, 2005, and was sentenced to 13 years in prison. Mr. Lu was brutally tortured. In February 2009, Mr. Lu went on a hunger strike to resist the persecution. He was force-fed a concentrated saline solution. A nurse poured scalding water on Mr. Lu, which resulted in multiple burns. Also, in the dead of winter, they poured cold water on Mr. Liu, opened the window and doors, and dragged him on the floor. Several of Mr. Lu's teeth were knocked out. Over the duration of such torture, Mr. Lu was in critical condition three times, until he finally passed away in Panjin Hospital No. 2 at the end of February 2009.
  • Practitioner Zhang Yunting Forced into Homelessness and Passed Away in 2008

    49-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Zhang Yunting from Dandong City passed away on August 25th, 2008. Due to the Chinese Communist Party's persecution of Falun Gong, he was forced into homelessness, and his wife left him.One time, a banner related to Falun Gong was hung on a building in Dandong City. National security guards assumed that he had hung up the banner and arrested him. Mr. Zhang was handcuffed to a piece of heating equipment for two days and nights. He was released later due to lack of evidence. In July 2006, Mr. Zhang Yunting had extravasated blood in his brain, and was sent to a hospital by relatives. He remained bedridden and was sent to a home for the elderly in the second half of 2007.
  • Retired Teacher Passes Away Due to Persecution

    In 2003 Ms. Sun Xianfen, 64, was arrested and detained in Anlu City Sili Detention Centre because she continued to practise Falun Gong. Ms. Sun was abused both physically and mentally. Video cameras monitored her every move. For nearly ten months, she was given no peace and was not allowed to sleep well night or day. After she was released Ms. Sun continued to be extremely nervous and in a state of fear. She could not lead a normal life, afraid that she was being constantly monitored. Still, the police would not leave her alone; they harassed her at home repeatedly and tried unsuccessfully to have her sign documents. Ms. Sun passed away on November 23rd, 2009 after suffering years of persecution.
  • 60-Year-Old Ms. Shi Yingchun Dies in Police Custody at Liaoning Province Women's Prison

    Because Shi Yingchun, 60, practised Falun Gong, she was repeatedly arrested and incarcerated. She was sent to forced labour camps twice for a total of five years prior to 2008. On August 30th, 2008, she was arrested again and sentenced to seven years in prison. She was incarcerated at the Liaoning Province Women's Prison until her death on March 18th, 2010. When her family inspected her body following her death they found that some work had been done to conceal wounds. They could, however, still see that her ears were swollen and bruised. There were three small wounds on her hips. There were two pools of blood on her trousers. There were even bite marks on her shoulder.
  • Additional Information about the Death of 74-Year-Old Mr. Wu Botong, Tortured in Custody in Guizhou Province

    On September 11th, 2005, Mr. Wu Botong, a Falun Gong practitioner from Anshun City, Guizhou Province, died in Duyun Prison. He had only been in the prison for 5 days when he died. The death certificate listed his cause of death as "a heart problem", but Mr. Wu Botong had never had any heart problems before. He previously had some minor problems with his kidneys but no longer had these problems after he started practising Falun Gong. His family was only allowed to see his face; the prison personnel refused to allow them to examine his body. His body was then cremated without his family's permission.
  • Wife Tortured to Death, Husband in Mortal Danger

    On April 14th, 2010, practitioner Wang Kaiming was beaten unconscious at the No.4 Division of Panjin Prison in Liaoning Province. Hs family was told that he was in the intensive care unit in Panjin No.2 People's Hospital. Hospital authorities learned that he was bleeding from the brain and he was in danger of dying. Wang's wife, Yao Guilan, died in August 2009. She never recovered from the mistreatment she received at Masanjia Forced Labour Camp.
  • Mr. Yu Lianhe and Mr. Dong Fengshan Beaten to Death in Prison in Jilin Province

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yu Lianhe, 41, was imprisoned in the Shiling Prison in Siping City, Jilin Province on October 2nd, 2009. He died there on November 22nd. Mr. Dong Fengshan, a practitioner, was imprisoned in the Siping City Prison on October 23rd, 2008. He died there six days later on October 29th. Both practitioners had been severely beaten to death.
  • Ms. Fang Baiqin Dies as Result of Persecution in Gansu Province

    Ms. Fang Baiqin was a farmer's wife. She had tuberculosis since before she was married. After cultivating Falun Gong in 1994, all her symptoms were gone. She disciplined herself according to Truth-Compassion-Forbearance, never fought with others, and she had a mild temperament. Her family members all felt she had changed into a new person after practising Falun Gong. After the persecution began in July 20th, 1999, her husband went to Beijing to speak out for Falun Gong and local police kept threatening Ms. Fang in her home and demanded money from her. Her husband was detained in a forced labour camp. The long term persecution took its toll on Ms. Fang's health and she passed away from illness on March 27th, 2010.
  • Ms. Shi Meiling Dies as a Result of Torture while in Custody

    On March 13th, 2009, police arrested Ms. Shi Meiling and her son Li Peng at their home. On October 30th, Weibin District Court secretly sentenced Ms. Shi Meiling to six years in prison, and her son Li Peng to three years in prison, with five years probation. The court never notified their family about this trial. She was a healthy lady upon her arrest, but by January 2010, she was emaciated, had difficulty breathing, and could not lie down or stand up. The detention centre took her home when they saw she was dying. She could only lean on the bed. She died on April 18th, 2010 at the age of 49.
  • Persecution of Two Residents in Jincheng Town, Shuangchng City, Heilongjiang Province

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Hongliang is being detained at Jilin City No. 2 Prison. Another practitioner, Ms. Zhang Xiutian, died on January 13th, 2007. Ms. Zhang, 62 years old at the time of her death, previously had diabetes. After practising Falun Gong she quickly recovered from the illness. After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started the nationwide persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, Ms. Zhang went to Beijing to appeal and was arrested. Later Ms. Zhang left home to avoid further persecution. Over the next few years, officials attempted several times to arrest her but failed. The stress caused her previous illnesses to return, and she died as a result.
