Mr. Yu Lianhe and Mr. Dong Fengshan Beaten to Death in Prison in Jilin Province

Mr. Yu Lianhe, 41, a Falun Gong practitioner from Tonghua City, Jilin Province, was imprisoned in the Shiling Prison in Siping City, Jilin Province on October 2nd, 2009. He died there on November 22nd, 2009.

Mr. Dong Fengshan, a practitioner from Songyuan City, Jilin Province, was imprisoned in the Siping City Prison in Jilin Province on October 23rd, 2008. He died there six days later on October 29th, 2008.

Death Case of Mr. Yu Lianhe

On Sunday morning November 22nd, 2009 around lunch time for the prison, in the Third Cell, Tenth Ward of Shiling Prison in Siping City, Jilin Province, Mr. Yu Lianhe brushed inmate Jin Taishu when he got up from his bed. Jin immediately started verbally abusing Mr. Yu and beating him on his head. Mr. Yu raised his hands to cover his head. Jin then beat Mr. Yu on his chest for three or four minutes until Mr. Yu, in great pain, fell to his bed. Jin went to lunch, but continued the beating after his return. Jin beat Mr. Yu on the bed and shouted at him, "Don't pretend, as you can't deceive me." Mr. Yu was lying on the bed in such tremendous pain that his forehead was covered with beads of sweat.

At 2:00 p.m., inmate Zhang Jun, who was on the top bed above Mr. Yu, noticed that beads of sweat were continuously falling from Mr. Yu's forehead and Mr. Yu lay on the bed in a bent-over position, obviously in great pain. Zhang told Han Shuang, the inmate in charge, that he should check on Mr. Yu and not let him die in his cell, and that he should be taken to a hospital immediately. Han went to Mr. Yu's bed, and said, "Don't fake it, be like a man." Zhang said, "He is not pretending, as you can see the sweat on his forehead. You better hurry." Han unwillingly notified a guard on the watch.

The guard then called the person responsible for the Tenth Ward, who was playing games on the second floor office instead of his own office. When he came back at 3:00 p.m. and ordered two inmates to take Mr. Yu to the hospital, it was already too late; Mr. Yu had died.

It was said that the Investigation Section in the prison interviewed all witnesses and made records on November 23rd, 2009.

Death Case of Dong Fengshan

At 7:00 p.m. on October 29th, 2008, in the Fourth Unit of the Tenth Ward at Siping City Prison, Lu Yanfeng, the inmate in charge, along with inmate monitor head Yu Fengwu and seven other inmates, including Han Shuang, Di Shaoquan, Wang Guoxiang, Wang Yanshuang, Chen Chuang, Zhang Di, and Sun Chao, dragged Mr. Dong Fengshan into a toilet. They beat him there until 9:00 p.m. The next day four inmates pulled Mr. Dong's arms and feet, dragging him to the second floor of the workshop. The ward head, Yi Shoudong, and guards from the Fourth Unit (Hao Yulin), Third Unit (Yang Tiejun), ward cadre Li Buo, guards from the First Unit Li Haifeng, and Second Unit Wu Tie, shocked Mr. Dong with electric batons until he died.

To avoid criminal charges, the guards gave three criminal inmates 50,000 yuan¹ per person and had them admit to beating Mr. Dong to death.
