Mr. Xie Guichen and Ms. Tan Chengxiang from Jilin Province Unjustly Sentenced to Long Prison Terms

Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Xie Guichen and Ms. Tan Chengxiang were arrested on July 30th, 2012, for distributing Shen Yun Performing Arts [a New York based world-class traditional Chinese cultural show] DVDs. They were detained for about six months. Mr. Xie was so badly tortured that he had to be sent to a hospital for treatment. The police forbade the practitioners' families from visiting them. Their families recently learned that Mr. Xie had been sentenced to 10 years in prison and Ms. Tan to 8 years. -
Six Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested for Installing Satellite TV Receivers
2013-02-22Officers from Chifeng Security Bureau, 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), and police arrested Ma Xiaoguang and five other Falun Gong practitioners on December 21st, 2012, when they were installing a satellite TV receiver for a villager's home in Aohan County of Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia. The police took away a large number of personal belongings and detained the seven people at Aohan Detention Centre. -
The Persecution of Practitioners at Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison
2013-02-22While doing roll-call in Ward No. 2 of the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison at around 8:00 p.m. on January 6th, 2013, guard Qu Jialiang slapped practitioner Ms. Lu Yinghua (from Hegang City and in her forties) and Ms. Zhang Dexiang on their faces more than thirty times. Some people tried to stop him, but he became enraged and beat whoever he saw. He also severely beat practitioners in Ward No. 3 during roll-call on that day. In attempts to transform [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] practitioners, the guards not only threaten them, they also persecute them using various tortures, including sleep deprivation, solitary confinement, physical restraint, solitary confinement, hanging by handcuffs, force-feedings, drug administration, and severe beatings. -
Mr. Li Mingtao of Handan City Being Monitored after Serving 11 Years in Jail
2013-02-22On December 19th, 2012, after being released from serving 11 years, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Mingtao has repeatedly been harassed and monitored by the local Communist authorities. In 2001, police arrested Mr. Li, then 31, and took all of his Falun Gong books, cash, and bank books from his house. Police tortured him for over 20 days to try to get him to “confess.” He was shocked with high-voltage electric batons and hung up while his hands were handcuffed, causing severe swelling in his hands and legs. The handcuffs also cut into his flesh. To try break him down, the police whipped him and deprived him of sleep. -
Beijing Painter and Calligrapher Mr. Zhang Jie Sentenced to Two-Year Forced Labour Term; His Attorney Applies for Administrative Reconsideration
2013-02-22Mr. Zhang Jie, a painter and calligrapher in Beijing, was arrested at home on October 29th, 2012 by officers from the Haidian Police Station. He was sentenced to two years of forced labour for possessing Falun Gong books and CDs. Mr. Zhang and his lawyer submitted two documents for administrative reconsideration, and the Beijing municipal government Administrative Reconsideration Office has signed and accepted the documents. We urge the Beijing municipal government to make a correct choice, revoke the Forced Labour Written Decision against Mr. Zhang, and restore Mr. Zhang's personal freedom. Mr. Zhang developed serious physical conditions during his detention. -
Elderly Man's Cancer Cured Through Falun Gong Practice, Dies after Forced to Live in Cold Cave
2013-02-15Mr. Zhai Jiazhong, an elderly farmer from Henan Province, had persisted in practising Falun Gong. Just for that reason, the village chief, who is a member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), forced him to move out of the village and live in cold cave in the mountain. He passed away in August 2012 due to starvation and living in the cave. -
Practitioner Mr. Liao Yuanfu Dies after Years of Torture
2013-02-15In December 2000, Mr. Liao Yuanfu hung up some Falun Gong banners outdoors. He was arrested by police. The police beat Mr. Liao with fists and boots, and armed police hit him with the backs of their guns. Mr. Liao's face swelled from the beating and his eyes were black and blue. The beating lasted for several hours. Mr. Liao was sentenced to ten years in prison on January 24th, 2001, and he was transferred to Deyang Prison. While in prison, in order to "transform" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] Mr. Liao, guards used every imaginable method of torture on him. After Mr. Liao was released, officials demanded that he write a guarantee statement to renounce practising Falun Gong, but Mr. Liao refused. In March 2012, Mr. Liao had pain all over his body, and was out of breath and very uncomfortable. His condition deteriorated, and he was eventually bedridden and unable to care for himself. Mr. Liao passed away in extreme pain on November 7th, 2012. -
Mr. Yang Minghua, 59, of Beijing Dies after One Month in Detention
2013-02-15Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yang Minghua was arrested on August 9th, 2012 and held at the Shunyi District Detention Centre. He became emaciated as a result of the persecution. He was released on medical parole in September but passed away on October 10th at the age of 59. Mr. Yang's wife Ms. Sun Shanxiang also practised Falun Gong and was sentenced to forced labour three times. She is incarcerated at the Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp and does not know about her husband's death. -
Mr. Zhang Qingsheng Facing Trial; His Wife Tortured to Death
2013-02-15Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Zhang Qingsheng, Ms. Yang Xiuying, and Ms. Wen Shufan have been detained for over a year. The Hulan District Court in Harbin City planned to put them on trial on December 28th, 2012. Police raided Mr. Zhang's home on January 14th, 2004, after arresting his wife, Ms. Sun Yuhua. Ms. Sun was tortured to death and passed away on March 8th, 2004. -
The Atrocities Committed in Zhengyang Police Station, Qiqihar, Heilongjiang Province: Practitioners Suffocated with Smoke, Force-fed Alcohol, and Hung Up
2013-02-15In early March 2005, officials from the Zhengyang Police Station in Qiqihar City arrested 68 Falun Gong practitioners. I was one of them. The police detained us and then interrogated us using different forms of torture. Nearly every practitioner was tortured with the “Big Hang Up.” The police hung us up with our hands cuffed behind our backs. In addition, they put lit cigarettes into our nostrils and suffocated us with smoke. We could hardly breathe. They also force-fed us alcohol. Despite the fact that I am a woman, several male officers grabbed me, shoved me down on the floor, and poured liquor down my throat. -
The Persecution of Former Police Commissioner Mr. Li Dezhong Before His Death in 2000
2013-02-15Mr. Li Dezhong was a commissioner in the police department in Heilongjiang Province. He started practising Falun Gong in 1996 and followed the principles of Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance to be a good person. After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, he was put under house arrest and his house was searched. His liver disease recurred and he died at the end of January 2000 at the age of 49. -
Dalian City Intensified the Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in 2012
2013-02-15Ma Danliang was appointed head of the Dalian City Detention Centre by the Dalian Municipal Government on May 17th, 2012. He has continued to actively enforce the regime's policy of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Two months after he took office, 69-year-old Ms. Zhang Guilian from Kaifa District died as a result of abuse in detention. -
Officials from Acheng Court Hold Trial for Three Practitioners, Family Members Threatened and Barred from Attending
2013-02-15Officials from Acheng Court in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province held a trial for three Falun Gong practitioners on December 5th, 2012. Officials started to force the practitioners' family members and friends out of the building. They threatened them and said they would arrest those who did not leave. Court officials limited the number of people in the courtroom. Every practitioner's family was given a limit of people who could attend. -
Ms. Qu Shumei from Dalian City Arrested Again
2013-02-15After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began to persecute Falun Gong in July 1999, Ms. Qu Shumei and her husband's lives were turned completely upside down. Ms. Qu was sent to a forced labour camp twice, and Mr. Zhu was given a 12-year sentence and is currently in Shenyang No. 1 Prison. Ms. Qu was arrested again at home on December 17th, 2012, and police took her to Yaojiao Detention Centre. -
School Teacher Mr. Wang Linkai Sentenced to One Year of Forced Labour for Because of a Poem Posted on His Door
2013-02-15Mr. Wang Linkai, an elementary school teacher, posted a poem on the front door of his home during the 2012 Chinese New Year. The characters on the poem read: “The Sun and Moon Illuminate Heaven and Earth with Auspicious Light, Heaven and Earth are Bright Again with Favourable Circumstances.” Police arrested Mr. Wang Linkai at school on July 6th and sentenced him to one year in a forced labour camp.
