Mr. Wei Chaohai, 62, Tortured to Death in Deyang Prison

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wei Chaohai died on January 1st, 2013. Mr. Wei was sent to Qingjiang Prison Hospital for emergency treatment on December 31st, 2012, and died the next morning. Details are under investigation; however, it is certain that Falun Gong practitioners are not allowed to do their exercises in prison, and are subjected to forced brainwashing and close monitoring. Thus, they are tortured both physically and mentally. Mr. Wei was arrested in September 2009 and sentenced to eight years in Deyang Prison for practising Falun Gong. -
Mr. Hua Lianyou from Tianjin on Hunger Strike to Protest Another Arrest and Prison Term
2013-02-04Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Hua Lianyou and his wife, Ms. Tian Zongli, were arrested on April 24th, 2012. They went on a hunger strike on May 23rd to protest and resist the persecution. While Mr. Hua was ill at a hospital, he was sentenced to seven years in prison. He was then transferred from Binhai Prison to Xinsheng Hospital and is emaciated and bedridden. Mr. Hua's wife Ms. Tian is currently detained at the Tianjin Beichen Detention Centre. -
Fushun City Police Ransack and Rob Practitioners' Homes
2013-02-04On April 15th, 2012, police arrested more than a dozen practitioners in Xinbin County, ransacked their homes and confiscated their personal belongings. Mr. Mu Guodong and his wife, Ms. Yu Haiyan, were arrested by over 10 officers from the Fushun City Domestic Security Division at 6 a.m. that same day. Their home was also ransacked. The police confiscated their computer, a mobile phone, 8,000 yuan cash, and a bank savings book with a balance of 30,000 yuan. -
Fuqing Road Neighbourhood Officials in Chengdu City Arrest and Incarcerate Ms. Guo Lirong in Brainwashing Centre
2013-02-04Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Guo Lirong was persecuted in the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre. The first day she was admitted, a staff member kicked her in the head with his shoes on, causing her to lose consciousness and vomit blood. After she was held there for more than 20 days, on November 21st, 2012, Ms. Guo was released. She was physically and mentally devastated. She was dragged out of the car and left alone on the road outside of her residential community. -
Ms. Chen Shulan from Beijing Detained Again after Eight Years of Imprisonment
2013-02-04Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Chen Shulan was once again arrested and taken to the Changping Detention Centre on December 16th, 2012. All seven members of Ms. Chen's family practised Falun Gong, but five of them have lost their lives as a result of the brutal persecution over the past more than 13 years. Ms. Chen's younger brother, Chen Aizhong, was tortured to death in Hehuakeng Forced Labour Camp in 2001. Ms. Chen's younger sister, Chen Hongping, had her legs broken when guards at the Gaoyang Forced Labour Camp beat. She was tortured to death in 2003. Ms. Chen's other brother, Chen Aili, ended up in critical condition after being tortured in Jidong Prison. He died in 2004. -
Former Legal Daily Reporter Disappears for Over a Month, Now Faces Sentencing
2013-02-04Falun Gong practitioner Yang Zhixiong, a former reporter for Legal Daily, disappeared over a month ago. His family received a notice on December 9th, 2012, stating that he was detained and facing sentencing. The case against him was fabricated by the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and presented to the court. His court date was scheduled for December 25th. Twelve Practitioners from Xiangtan City Arrested in October 2012
2013-02-04Twelve Falun Gong practitioners from Xiangtan City, Hunan Province were arrested in October 2012. Local 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) agents, police officers, and government staff participated in the arrests. Mr. Wang Qingsheng and Mr. Luo Yinping were covertly sent to Laodaohe Law Training Centre in Changsha City (Hunan Province Brainwashing Centre) on October 17th. Mr. Wang was refused admission because of his poor physical health. However, he was sent to the Wujia Garden Brainwashing Centre in Xiangtan City the next day. -
Many Falun Gong Practitioners in Handan City Falsely Labeled “Mentally-Ill” and Driven to Mental Disorder
2013-02-04The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has persecuted Falun Gong for 13 years. During this heartless campaign, countless healthy practitioners have been persecuted so terribly that they became mentally disordered. In order to eradicate Falun Gong, the CCP has labelled normal, healthy Falun Gong practitioners as “mentally-ill” and tried to destroy them. On August 31st, 2002, Mr. Cheng was arrested when he participated in a Falun Gong conference held in his county. Because he was treated so brutally Mr. Cheng suffered from mental stress and subsequently developed a mental disorder and couldn't take care of himself. On February 9th, 2005, he died. -
Practitioner Jiang Zonglin Remains Incarcerated after Completing Five-year Prison Term, His Wife and Daughter Also Arrested
2013-02-04Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Jiang Zonglin was sentenced to five years in prison for his belief. His term ended on October 15th, 2012, but he was not released. He was taken instead to the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre by Jinniu District 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and Fuqin Resident Committee personnel. He has been detained there for over two months. On December 22nd, Mr. Jiang's wife, daughter, siblings, and other relatives went to the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre to request his release. The brainwashing centre director locked them up inside. -
Zhang Hongwei Confined Again by Jilin Prison Guards
2013-02-04Mr. Zhang Hongwei, 44, has been incarcerated in Jilin Prison for almost 12 years. He suffers from severe, type III tuberculosis. On November 26th, 2012, he was again confined in a small cell by the guards because he did the Falun Gong exercises. Mr. Zhang has been confined in a small cell many times. The longest duration was for more than two years. Because he refused to give up his belief, he was put on a "stretching bed." The guards both stretched and beat him. He endured other methods of torture, including the "death bed", being burned with smoke and hot water, having his mouth stuffed with dirty rags, and being stabbed with needles. He was on the verge of death as a result of persecution. -
Older Ms. Huang Juxiu from Yueyang, Hunan Province, Persecuted at the Laodaohe Brainwashing Centre
2013-01-11Ms. Huang Juxiu, about 60, was arrested on her way home from shopping on September 2nd, 2012 by police officers. Ms. Huang was taken directly to the Laodaohe Brainwashing Centre in Changsha. The guards ordered several collaborators (former practitioners, brainwashed against Falun Gong, made to assist in brainwashing and torturing practitioners) played video and audio programmes defaming Falun Gong's founder and the practice around the clock. She was deprived of sleep and tortured. Certain acupuncture points were forcibly pressed without leaving any external marks. After this “massage,” she could not raise her right hand. -
Guangdong Province Practitioner Li Shengyu Sentenced to Five Years
2013-01-11Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Shengyu was arrested by police and Yangjiang City 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) in 2011. They failed to arrest Mr. Li’s wife, Ye Henglian. The incident forced Ms. Ye to leave home for an extended time in order to avoid police harassment. In a secret trial in March 2012, Mr. Li was sentenced to five years and subsequently transferred to Yangjiang Prison. -
Older Mr. Wu Jiajun from Laizhou City, Shandong Province, Covertly Tried
2013-01-11Mr. Wu Jiajun, a Falun Gong practitioner from Laizhou City, was arrested on February 28th, 2012. The perpetrators first took Mr. Wu to the Dianzi Brainwashing Centre and then transferred him to the Laizhou City Detention Centre. Mr. Wu has been detained for more than nine months. His family hasn't received any information about him and is very worried. Local court officials have tried him several times without informing his family. -
Ms. Huang Xiaoqin Imprisoned In a Forced Labour Camp
2013-01-11Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Huang Xiaoqin is from Shaanxi Province. Police broke into her home, arrested her, and ransacked her home on July 27th. She was then detained in the Hantai Detention Centre in Hanzhong City and sentenced to 15 months of forced labour. Ms. Huang appealed to higher authorities. -
Mr. Shen Jili from Weifang City, Shandong Province on Hunger Strike to Protest the Persecution at the Brainwashing Centre in Kuiwen District Party School
2013-01-11Mr. Shen Jili from Weifang City, Shandong Province was arrested on November 11th, 2012 and sent to the brainwashing centre in Kuiwen District Party School. He has been on a hunger strike to protest the persecution, and his family and friends are worried about his physical condition. Ahead of the 2008 Olympics, Mr. Shen was arrested because he practises Falun Gong. As a result of the mistreatment Mr. Shen suffered during his detention, he became seriously ill and was not able to eat anything. About six inmates, led by the detention centre doctor, force-fed him. The pain and trauma caused him to lose consciousness within a few minutes.
