  • On the Verge of Death Multiple Times – Ms. Liu Zhi's Personal Account of Persecution (Part 1)

    Ms. Liu Zhi, a 51-year-old Shenyang resident, has been tortured to the verge of death multiple times since 2010, simply for practising Falun Gong. Within half a year of detention in Liaoning Women's Prison starting in July 2011, Ms. Liu was tortured to the point of immobility. However, the prison denied her application for medical parole, citing that she had not given up her beliefs.
  • Torture Methods: How Guards Torture Practitioners With Their Bare Hands

    Beatings are one of the most common forms of torture inside China's prisons. Guards often beat Falun Gong practitioners, attempting to force them into giving up their beliefs. To deprive Mr. Ding Lihong of sleep, guards at Shijiazhuang Brainwashing Centre hit his head with anything they could find, beat his legs, twisted his ears, and pulled his eyelids. In particular, guard Zhao Juyong pinched his eyeballs and gouged his eyes. Within nine months Mr. Ding died due to mistreatment.
  • Mr. Zhang Guoli Force-Fed with Harmful Hallucinogens

    Mr. Zhang Guoli, a Falun Gong practitioner recently imprisoned in China, says that he was force-fed a mixture of chilli powder, pepper powder and hallucinogens at the Dalian Detention Centre. He showed symptoms of kidney failure and was taken to the 210 Hospital in Dalian for emergency care. He is now in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Zhongxin Hospital.
  • Further Information on the Death of Ms. Zhang Shuxian in Police Custody

    On August 7th, 2014 police officers from the Tumen City Domestic Security Division arrested Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Shuxian. On August 8th, only one day after the arrest, Ms. Zhang’s family was informed of her death. According to information received by Minghui.org, Ms. Zhang’s remains were covered in bruises and wounds. There was a footprint on her back which appeared to be the result of a heavy kick.
  • Practitioner Suspected to Have Died from Organ Harvesting Ten Years Ago

    Mr. Fan Xuejun died as a result of persecution on September 12th, 2004 while imprisoned. His family suspected that he died from organ harvesting when they inspected his body. It bore so many cuts that it appeared to have been dissected, and there was a gaping hole in the waist area. However, under huge pressure, they did not have the courage to expose their findings at the time.

    Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began persecuting Falun Gong in 1999, unjust arrests have become commonplace, and detained practitioners are sometimes even murdered while in custody. Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Shuxian went missing on August 7th. Her family learned that she had been arrested. The police took Ms. Zhang's husband to the city hospital and told him that Ms. Zhang had suffered a heart attack and was in emergency care. According to her husband, Ms. Zhang had no previous heart condition. Ms. Zhang had died within 24 hours, in police custody, at the age of 53.

    News about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners is censored in China and a taboo subject for state-run media. Practitioners have been arrested, tortured and even persecuted to death for informing the public about this persecution. Writing or printing words explaining the facts about the persecution on paper currency (money) has become popular in many areas in China in recent years, and has proven to be a great way to inform the public. Police from Wuhan City have been arresting practitioners and trying to stop these notes from circulating.

    Looking back at the persecution he has suffered over the years, Mr. Liu Yongjin knows that unless he tells his story, no one will ever know the truth. “Because of the strict information blockade and family visitation denials, only the people who persecuted me know what happened—no one else knows,” he said. “And they will make up any excuse to hide their crimes.” After suffering forced-feeding and torture for a month, Mr. Liu was sentenced to the Tai'an Prison by the Lanshan District Court on March 21st, 2008. The trial took place at the Linyi Brainwashing Centre and lasted only 5 minutes.
  • Publicity Department Director Arrested on Orders from Political and Legal Committee and 610 Office

    Ms. Li Tong is the Publicity Department Director of the Benxi Women's Federation, a highly placed position. After she was arrested for exposing an illegal trial of Falun Gong practitioners, the police tried to use the loss of her job as leverage against her. She was told, “It would be a shame to lose such a good job. Why don't you just give up Falun Gong?” Li Tong firmly refused, and is still detained today at the Benxi Detention Centre.
  • 10-Year Sentence Upheld for Innocent Woman

    The Chaoyang Intermediate Court has upheld the lower court's 10-year prison sentence for Ms. Zhang Yuzhuo. Her lawyer denounced the lower court's verdict during the hearing on June 24th, 2014, saying, “An ordinary person like Ms. Zhang is treated like a terrorist and sentenced to 10 years in prison. She's been deprived of her civil rights for two years. Ms. Zhang believes in kindness and exercises to keep fit. Why is she being treated like a murderer, arsonist, or terrorist? Such a sentence is an abuse of the law and a violation of justice and conscience.” The judge had nothing to say in reply. The original sentence was upheld.
  • Tortured to the Point of Disability, Outstanding Business Manager Mr. Zhang Huidong Repeatedly Persecuted for His Belief

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Huidong is about 38 years old. He served as the deputy general manager of a real estate company in Dalian City and made many significant contributions to the company's development. This outstanding business manager was repeatedly persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party simply because he believes in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He was tortured to the point of permanent disability. He also lost his parents due to the harsh persecution. His mother, Ms. Chen Lihua, was arrested many times and severely tortured for three years in the Dalian City Forced Labour Camp. She passed away in October 2012.
  • Sanhe City, Hebei Province: Over 300 People Sign Petition on Behalf of Four Arrested Practitioners

    Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Kang Jingtai, Mr. Wang Zhanqing, Mr. Ma Weishan, and Ms. Wen Jie were arrested by the Sanhe City police on April 22nd, 2014. All four practitioners were detained at the Langfang City Brainwashing Centre. Local practitioners collected at least 334 signatures from local residents, calling for the release of the four practitioners. At this time, only Mr. Kang Jingtai and Mr. Wang Zhanqing have been released.
  • Practitioner Brutally Beaten and Interrogated

    Mr. Zhong Dongsheng, one of the 13 practitioners arrested in July 2014, was brutally beaten during the arrest and later tortured during interrogation. He became emaciated and weak after a hunger strike and both of his legs became swollen. Mr. Zhong was taken to the county hospital for a blood sample after the arrest. It is noted that Chinese authorities take blood samples from practitioners for possible future organ harvesting.
  • Summary Report of Falun Gong Practitioners Killed in Prisons and Detention Centres

    The Chinese Communist Party launched its crackdown of Falun Gong nationwide on July 20th, 1999. The Minghui website has reported 3714 deaths of practitioners as a result of the persecution as of June 30th, 2014. Among them, the deaths of 512 practitioners (14%) were attributed directly to abuses they suffered while incarcerated in prisons, detention centres, and labour camps. There were 335 death cases that were reported with explicit mentions of torture. Torture instruments used include shackles, ropes and chains, the “tiger bench,” the “death bed,” hanging, cutting with knives, or burning.
  • Jilin Women's Prison: Inmates Ordered to Use “Hard and Soft Ways” to Force Elderly Ms. Huang Fulan to Renounce Falun Gong

    “The police told us to use both hard and soft ways to 'transform' [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] you,” said an inmate while torturing 67-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Huang Fulan in Jilin Women's Prison. This inmate was a former practitioner who was herself “transformed” and made to put pressure on practitioners who refused to renounce Falun Gong. While the “hard” ways refer to torture and beating, “soft” ways include coercion and brainwashing tactics.
