Inside the Labour Camps

  • My Experiences at the Tianjin City Women's Forced Labour Camp

The Tianjin City Women's Forced Labour Camp is a hell on earth. Before the No. 5 Division was enlarged, many Falun Gong practitioners were cruelly persecuted there. During the autumn and winter seasons, the cells are very cold and damp. A new detainee is often so frightened that she cannot fall asleep at night. There were heaters in the cells, but they were never allowed to be turned on unless outside visitors or government officials came to inspect the camp. Instead, only the stove in each cell was allowed to burn a small amount of coal. The camp didn’t give any wood for lighting a fire, so the practitioners had to use their wooden stools instead.
  • Mr. Liu Yongwang in Critical Condition After More Than 15 Days on Hunger Strike to Protest Unjust Prison Sentence

"On October 13th, 2002, police carried me into a room where they used to torture determined Dafa practitioners. They shocked me with electric batons and hit me with rubber clubs and coerced me to attack Dafa and "reform" [renounce Dafa]. I told them, "It's against the law to beat people." They hog-tied me and then whipped my face with rubber clubs and leather belts and they knocked out one of my front teeth. They shocked the top of my head, the inside of my thighs and other sensitive body parts with electric batons until the smell of charred flesh permeated the room. They tortured me for three days. I went on hunger strike on the first day of the three-day torture. After the three-day torture, they tied me spread-eagle in a metal bed 24 hours a day for 21 days."
  • The Persecution I Suffered at Shayang Forced Labour Camp in Hubei Province

On the evening of September 30th, 2003, I was sitting in meditation. Suddenly a group of policemen rushed in from downstairs and frantically knocked on the door. My husband asked, "Why are you making an arrest?" The police simply did not pay attention to him. They arrested me and another fellow practitioner and took us away in a police car. On the third morning of my detainment, the police opened the cell door. They brutally handcuffed us and pushed us on a tour bus. After getting off, a nurse gave us injections. We asked, "What’s this?" "Vaccine," was her reply. (Actually it was a drug that impairs the nervous system). Two practitioners lost consciousness right away. I was transferred to hospital for force-feeding. I almost suffocated to death.
  • Persecution in Prisons and Labour Camps in Hebei Province

In October 2000, a group of Falun Dafa practitioners from all parts of Hebei Province were sent to the Kaiping Labour Camp. There was a shortage of cells, so bungalows with brick beds [a heatable brick bed used in northern China] were built in the men’s division, located behind the women's division. A dozen practitioners slept on one large brick bed. We could only sleep on our sides. Dafa practitioners are often hung from the trees. When government officials come for an inspection, the labour camp authorities hide all steadfast practitioners.
  • Practitioners Brutally Tortured at Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

Practitioners are still being brutally tortured at Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. Practitioners are handcuffed twenty-four hours a day, and tied to a bed in the shape of cross for at least fourteen hours a day. Such tortures have lasted for more than half a month. On April 29th, 2006, Yan Chunjiao was struck in the face over ten times by a police officer. The office director forced Yan Chunjiao to kneel down. After she refused to do so, Ma Jishan kicked her right foot, causing her ankle to swell up and become dislocated.
  • Exposing the Persecution Crimes in Baimalong Women's Forced Labour Camp in Hunan Province

Practitioners are forced to perform slave labour. Those who refuse are berated on the spot, forced to stand for extremely long periods of time, and not allowed to use the toilet, drink water, or take a shower. Moreover, their terms in the labour camp are extended. Practitioner Ms. Hu Xiaoxian was released only after her term had been extended by more than four months. Guards impatiently wanted me to write a guarantee statement to renounce Falun Dafa, which they had already composed in advance. When I paid no attention to them, they started to beat me, claiming that it was a demonstration of their authority. They also forced me to watch many brainwashing videotapes.
  • Ms Zhang Fuxiang Almost Tortured to Death at the Shandong Province First Women's Forced Labour Camp

Ms. Zhang Fuxiang was imprisoned in the Forced Labour Camp for more than three years and suffered brutal torture. The guard are given incentives such as promotions and pay rises to reach a higher "transformation rate", and are punished when they don't meet their goals. The guards thus tortured practitioners cruelly, trying to force them to "transform." Using the excuse that Ms. Fuxiang had some stomach problems, guards force-fed her with some 'medicine' three times a day with soup made from vegetables that had gone bad. They also forced her to put on earphones and played recordings that kept insulting Falun Dafa with loud noises of smashing metal and forcing her to squat. Guards also kicked and beat her.
  • Practitioners Forced to Use Contaminated Materials to Manufacture Safety Gloves at Zhongba Women's Forced Labour Camp in Guizhou Province

In 2001 I was sentenced to three year's forced labour for spreading Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution and was detained in the Zhongba Women's Forced Labour Camp. The No. 2 Division had a workshop that specialised in making safety gloves. The contaminated used fabric was terribly filthy and full of blood stains, dirt, and mildew. The smell was awful. It was common to assign the new arrivals in Division 2 to collect and sort the used cloth. The peculiar smell of decay, mildew, and rot made the sorter sick enough to vomit.
  • Pay Attention to the Guanshan Forced Labour Camp in Tieling City

When I was detained at the Dalian Forced Labour Camp, I heard the people guarding me say that they had given up on those steadfast practitioners who would not follow orders. They sent them to Guanshan Forced Labour Camp in Tieling. The conditions are extremely severe and dangerous, and the work is very hard. Injury or fatal accidents occur frequently. As soon as someone is sent there, the guard would meet him with a shovel handle, beating him from the gate all the way to the building area. When someone dies there, they would report it as an accident and no one would investigate any further.
  • Former Engineer from the Yunnan Province Design Institute Recounts the Persecution He Experienced in China's Forced Labour Camps

"Division 2 where I was persecuted owned some factories and farms, including a vegetable dehydrating processing factory. The vegetable factory was in very unsanitary condition, with mosquitoes, flies mice, and cockroaches everywhere. No one was allowed a hot water shower at any time during the year. Most people had scabies, big blisters, and other infectious skin diseases. When one touched the area with a finger, it bled or oozed pus. It was disgusting and terrible. After some time, even the fingers were infected and oozed pus, but we still had to work for more than 16 hours a day. No one asked whether the products met sanitary standards as long as the quota was met."
  • Ms. Li Huaiye Tortured with Electric Shocks in Gaoyang Forced Labour Camp

On February 15th, 2004, Dafa practitioner Li Huaiye was taken to Gaoyang labour camp. On the afternoon of June 7th in Gaoyang, the police took Li Huaiye to a torture room on the east side of the building. On the floor was a board with two handcuffs on it. They handcuffed Li Huaiye's hands so that she was totally immobilised. The policemen then used electric batons to shock her mouth. Because Li Huaiye closed her mouth tightly, the baton could not be inserted inside the mouth, and it shocked the teeth instead. Afterwards they took her socks off and stuffed them into her mouth. They put earphones on her to force her to listen to material slandering Dafa. Then they shocked her inner thighs and went on to shock the rest of her body.
  • Wang Qingfu Persecuted in the Jiutai Forced Labour Camp Until Incapable Of Walking

Wang Qingfu, a Dafa practitioner, was sentenced to three years of forced labour. On April 20th, he was sent to Jiutai City Forced Labour Camp in Jilin, where he was persecuted so severely that he could not walk. His wrists showed deep scars made by handcuffs. The scars resulted from his being shackled to a bed with his arms and legs spread wide. On May 5th, Wang Qingfu started a hunger strike to protest the cruel persecution against him, and he was brutally force-fed. His family members worried about Mr. Wang's life and went to Jiutai Forced Labour Camp to request a visit with him, but the labour camp refused them.
  • Practitioners Emaciated Due to Persecution at Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

During the last ten days of February 2006, all the steadfast Falun Dafa practitioners detained in the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp were persecuted insanely for refusing to be "transformed." They were forced to wear the prison uniform, sit in a chair and call out numbers. They were abused with physical punishment, handcuffs, beating and scolding by the chief of the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp and other guards. Every practitioner persecuted was forced by three, four or more policemen to wear a uniform, and was beaten if he or she would not cooperate.
  • More Facts of the Persecution at the 2nd Division of the Jinzhou City Forced Labour Camp

In the spring of 2004, Dafa practitioner Shao Minggang was arrested by the Jinzhou City State Security Bureau. After his arrest, policemen used lighters to burn his lower jaw. Then, Li Xiejiang, a policeman from the 610 Office, beat him badly. His face was disfigured as a result. When Mr. Shao was delivered to the labour camp, he started a hunger strike. Guards force-fed him. During the force-feeding, former deputy director Li Fenglin ordered guards to use a large quantity of salty water for the force-feeding.
  • Practitioners Mr. Liang Runcheng and Mr. Liu Chengguo Are Severely Persecuted in Benxi City Forced Labour Camp

In Benxi Forced Labour Camp Mr. Liang Runcheng was severely tortured for more than 20 days. Mr. Liu Chengguo started a hunger strike from the day of his arrest and now has been without food for 41 days. He is very weak. On January 3rd, 2006, when Mr. Liang distributed Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution, he was beaten up by four policemen and lost consciousness. He was sentenced to two years of forced labour. On March 13th, 2006, while practitioner Mr. Liu Chengguo was practising the Falun Gong exercises at his home the police came and arrested him. That same day a policemen punched Mr. Liu's face and head more than 50 times. Mr. Liu was sentenced to two years of forced labour.
