  • Mr. Zhang Shuan from Henan Province Passes Away Due to Harassment by Authorities While His Wife Is Imprisoned

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Guo Huaniu was arrested by the police right before the Olympic Games were held in Beijing in 2008. Ms. Guo's husband, Mr. Zhang Shuan, was also imprisoned in the city detention centre but released later. In early September 2010, Mr. Zhang told a fellow Falun Gong practitioner that officials came to his house to investigate whether the people who were visiting him were really his relatives. Mr. Zhang told the practitioner that he had to stop practising Falun Gong because of pressure from the authorities. He died on September 9th. He was only in his fifties.
  • Mr. Hou Yanshuang in Critical Condition after Spending Nine Years in Prison

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Hou Yanshuang, 50 years old, has been detained in the No. 1 Shenyang Prison for nine years. Due to the ill treatment that he has suffered, Mr. Hou is now in critical condition. Mr. Hou's family received a call from the prison authorities on September 17th, notifying them that Mr. Hou's health had deteriorated and that he had asked to see his family. When Mr. Hou's wife, son, and other relatives went to the prison to visit him on September 19th, Mr. Hou was struggling to breathe properly and was not able to speak. Mr. Hou's family received a message on the evening of September 26th, stating that his condition had seriously deteriorated, yet still no one was allowed to take care of him.
  • Brutal Force-feeding Routinely Used as a Form of Torture in Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison

    Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison officials have persecuted Falun Gong practitioners in many ways during the past several years. For example, guards force-feed practitioners who go on hunger strikes to protest. This force-feeding, used as a means of torture, is done as brutally as possible and can easily cause suffocation. Numerous types of substances have been used in force-feeding, including milk powder mixed with water, corn soup, highly salted water, and unknown drugs mixed with food. In addition, guards also force-feed practitioners with garlic water, hot pepper juice, mustard, and alcohol.
  • A Family Is Torn Apart as a Result of the Persecution

    In the A'cheng District in Harbin lived a family of four: a beloved mother and her three daughters. The three daughters had witnessed the miracles of Falun Gong, and one by one came to practise it. They all benefited from the practice. But since the persecution began in 1999, all three sisters have faced severe torment. The youngest sister suffered mental disorders due to the persecution. Two members in the family have since passed away.
  • Ms. Wang Jie from Shenyang Arrested Again Following a Seven-Year Imprisonment

    Ms. Wang Jie, 48, from Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, was sentenced to prison in 2002 for exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. She was detained for seven years in the Liaoning Women's Prison, where she was subjected to severe abuse and torture. Ms. Wang was released in October 2009, but in less than a year, she was once again arrested at home on the morning of September 26th, 2010. She is currently in the Shenyang City Detention Centre.
  • Ms. Pei Yi from Tianjin Arrested and Detained for the Third Time

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Pei Yi was arrested on September 19th, 2010 by officers from the Sports Centre Police Station, Nankai Police Department. She was held in the Nankai Police Department's Detention Centre that same night. Officers from the detention centre ransacked her home on September 24th. This is the third time that Ms. Pei has been arrested and detained since the onset of the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999.
  • Ms. Luo Yuhuan from Guangzhou City Subjected to Persecution

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Luo Yuhuan was sent to the Chatou Women's Forced Labour Camp in May 2008 and detained for one and a half years. The only reason for her detention was that she remained steadfast in her belief and spoke with people about Falun Gong and the persecution. In the camp, drug addicts are assigned to monitor Falun Gong practitioners and try to force them to renounce Falun Gong. The practitioners were made to sit on small benches and watch videos slandering Falun Gong. They were forbidden to talk to others, and were forced to do hard labour for more than ten hours per day. They were frequently forced to work overtime. Ms. Luo was subjected to both physical torture and mental torment.
  • Teacher Jiang Yongqin of Zhejiang Sci-Tech University Sentenced to Prison

    Ms. Jiang Yongqin teaches at the Experimental Teaching Centre for Mechanical Basis at Zhejiang Sci-Tech University. On September 26th, 2009, officers from the Jianggan District 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) took her into custody while she was at the university. The police also ransacked her home and confiscated her desk-top computer, laptop and mobile phone. In February 2010, Ms. Jiang was sentenced to three years in prison and sent to the Zhejiang Women's Prison. Her four-year-old daughter and elderly and sickly in-laws are left without care at home.
  • Ms. Jiang Wenling Held in Qingbu Forced Labour Camp

    Police officers arrested Ms. Jiang Wenling on July 20th, after she talked to a taxi driver, told him the facts about Falun Gong and urged him to quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The driver expressed his willingness to quit, but when Ms. Jiang got out of the cab, the driver immediately reported her to the police. The police held her in Zhangjiang Detention Centre and then was taken to Qingbu Forced Labour Camp in Shanghai on August 1st for one year.
  • Ms. Li Nianchun, a Retired Manager, Persecuted in Yueyang City, Hunan Province

    Ms. Li Nianchun, who is 70, is a retired manager of Junshan District Export and Trade Company in Yueyang City, Hunan Province. When the persecution of Falun Gong began, she was the victim of many forms of persecution. Most recently she served seven years in the Hunan Province Women's Prison. Guard Xue Fang handcuffed her and locked her up in a solitary confinement cell. She wasn't released until after eight days of being on hunger strike. To this day there are still visible marks on her hands. Afterward, Xue Fang kept her in a strictly controlled team for more than two months. While at the prison, Ms. Li was also made to do hard labour with a workload 3-4 times that of non-practitioner detainees.
  • Mr. Li Wenbo Being Tortured at Yunnan Province First Prison

    On May 11th, 2009, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Wenbo was arrested and detained by the County 610 Office [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong]. Mr. Li was secretly sentenced by Kunming City Court on October 12th. His family was not informed of the court date and the length of the sentence. Mr. Li was sent to the Yunnan Province First Prison. On his first day there, Mr. Li refused to wear the prison uniform, as he felt that his belief in the values of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance was not a crime and that the sentencing was unlawful. As a result, over thirty guards surrounded Mr. Li and attacked him. The guards used four sets of handcuffs to affix Mr. Li to metal bars with his arms and legs stretched out to form an "X." He was tied up around the clock, except during meal time and to use the toilet, for the next several months.
  • 63-Year-Old Mr. Wang Shilin Detained and Tortured Five Times

    Mr. Wang Shilin, 63, lives in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province. He started practising Falun Gong in 1996. Since the persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999 by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Mr. Wang has been arrested five times and suffered brutal torture. He said, "I went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution at Jiamusi Detention Centre in Heilongjiang Province. As a result, I was chained to the ground with all four of my limbs stretched for 15 days. Even now, I don't dare to think about the pain I suffered. It was horrible!"
  • Ms. Li Junxia Persecuted Until She Died

    Ms. Li Junxia was a victim of the persecution of Falun Gong. She had been repeatedly harassed, and developed a mental disorder after the agents of the 610 Office [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong] detained her in a mental hospital at the end of 2006. What happened to Ms. Li in the mental hospital is unknown. Her family noticed that she had a mental disorder after she was released. She died after falling from a building in 2009.
  • Ms. He Xiufang, 58, from Gansu Province Arrested Again and Subjected to Physical and Mental Torture

    On September 11th, Falun Gong practitioners He Xiufang was arrested by police. She is currently detained in the Longxi County Detention Centre. During the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) ten-year persecution of Falun Gong, He Xiufang has been arrested, detained in a forced labour camp, imprisoned and forced into brainwashing sessions. She has suffered endless physical and mental torture. In Gansu Province Women's Prison He Xiufang had to get up at 5:00 a.m., and couldn't go to bed until 1:00 a.m. or later. Every day she was forced to work like a slave with extended hours, doing embroidery, cutting threads, and sealing medicine boxes.
  • Ms. Wang Yueqin's Sentence at Hebei Province Women's Forced Labor Camp Extended

    Officers from Dongli Police Station in Shijiazhuang City arrested Ms. Wang on March 10th, 2009. She was given a one-and-a-half-year sentence in Hebei Province Women's Forced Labour Camp in Shijiazhuang. Practitioners at the camp have to begin work at 5:00 a.m. and work for 17 hours a day. Inmates strictly monitor practitioners while they work, and often beat and swear at them. Ms. Wang was forced to pick cotton seeds and then clean the building, including the toilets. At the end of her sentence in September 2010, officials refused to release Ms. Wang because she had not renounced her belief in Falun Gong. Her family members were told that she would be released sometime in October, but if her current position did not change she would be arrested again.
