  • Elderly Practitioner Ms. Jing Ziying from Xi'an City Arrested; Her Whereabouts Unknown

    Ms. Jing Ziying, 79, is from Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province. On July 20th, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started the persecution of Falun Gong. Ms. Jing went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in 2000. CCP agents refused to listen to her, but instead sentenced her to one year of forced labour. While in a forced labour camp Ms. Jing refused to be "reformed" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong]. The guards subjected her to sleep deprivation and tried to force her to read books slandering Falun Gong. The guards also forced her to do hard labour. Ms. Jing was arrested again on July 22nd, 2010 by police and her current whereabouts are unknown.
  • Practising Falun Gong Cured Li Yanrong, Her Condition Is Now Critical Due to the Persecution

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Yanrong was arrested on July 1st, 2010, by police. She was brutally beaten in Jixiang Township Police Station. Ms. Li is now in Tangyuan Detention Centre. She is very thin and unable to eat, and her condition could become critical at anytime. A family member went to the police department and demanded her release, but deputy political commissar Zhou Jinzhe not only refused to release Ms. Li, he also wanted to detain her family member. Prior to practising Falun Gong, Ms. Li had severe tuberculosis. In 1998, she started to practise Falun Gong. Shortly after, her tuberculosis disappeared. After regaining her health, Ms. Li became a better person at home and her living situation improved as well.
  • Practitioner Jin Lihong Injected with Unknown Drug in Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison

    Ms. Jin Lihong was injected with an unknown drug in February or March 2006 when she was imprisoned in Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison. It caused her to suffer enormously, both mentally and physically. She recounts: "One day when I was standing in front of a window and looking at a pot of flowers, my tongue stuck out involuntarily. Things later got worse. My tongue became thick and purple and stuck out all the time. Later, when I was working on some of the prison's accounts, I realised that I was unable to do the maths. My brain didn't function well."
  • Falun Gong Practitioners Xie Jinda, Xue Yuxia, and Zheng Guolin Arrested

    On July 7th, 2010, Falun Gong practitioners Xie Jinda, Xue Yuxia, and Zheng Guolin from Harbin City distributed Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution to people in Hongjuntuner village. The practitioners' family members immediately hurried to Yongyuan Town upon hearing the news of their arrests. However, the police refused to let them into the police station. The police began pushing, shoving and threatening Zheng Guolin, who is over seventy years old. The family members, after having waited outside the door of the police station for over four hours, became very worried and tried to peek through the window. The policemen inside immediately began to take pictures of them.
  • Ms. Zhang Huayun and Her Mother from Chengdu City Lodge a Complaint in Court for Interrogation by Torture

    Recently, Ms. Zhang Huayun, a Falun Gong practitioner from Chengdu City, and her mother were tried in court. They denied the charges against them and stated that the police interrogated them by torture. Their two lawyers entered innocent pleas on their behalf. The lawyer said that according to the regulation on handling criminal cases precluding illegal evidence, the interrogation statements constitute illegal evidence and the court must call for an investigation. However, the judge ignored this request. Ms. Zhang is still being detained in the Chengdu City Detention Centre.
  • Older Practitioner Mr. Zhu Wenhua Dies in Tianjin Prison

    Mr. Zhu Wenhua was arrested in May 2003, and placed in custody at the Dayingmen Police Station, in the Hexi District. He was sentenced to eight years in prison in a secret trial at the Nankai District Court in March 2004, and was detained in Tianjin City Prison ever since. Mr. Zhu was inhumanly tortured: one leg was beaten until broken. He was disabled by the police because he refused to give up his faith in Falun Gong. The prison administration notified Mr. Zhu's family that he died on July 19th, 2010, due to a heart attack.
  • Mr. Miao Xinglong Endures Ten Days of Brutal Torture at the Suihua Forced Labour Camp

    Mr. Miao Xinglong was arrested by the police from the local 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and police station on July 19th, 2002. In August 2002, Mr. Miao was sent to Fuyu Forced Labour Camp in Qiqihar. In April 2003, without notifying his family, Mr. Miao was transferred to the Suihua Forced Labour Camp, where he endured brutal torture. Guards forced him to watch fabricated video about Falun Gong. Fan Xiaodong then asked Mr. Miao for his thoughts about the video. Mr. Miao replied that the videos were all fabricated to frame Falun Gong's founder and damage Falun Gong. Fan Xiaodong started to madly beat Mr. Miao all over his body. Fan stopped when Mr. Miao's teeth fell out and there was blood dripping from his nose.
  • Ms. Wang Xiuzhi, 74, from Harbin City Loses Eyesight While Detained

    Ms. Wang Xiuzhi, 74, was imprisoned for 18 months for distributing Falun Gong fliers beginning in May 2007. The administration of the Harbin Women's Prison ordered her family to pay 900 yuan, citing a physical exam towards her medical release on December 19th, 2007. The family did not pay and Ms. Wang was imprisoned at the Harbin Women's Prison. Before her release in December 2008, she had completely lost her eyesight.
  • Falun Gong Practitioners Detained and Fined by Policemen from Lanshan County, Hunan Province

    On July 11th, 2010, Falun Gong practitioners Zhou Baisheng, Zhou Yongying and Li Xiyu were seized by local policemen while distributing Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution to people in a village. They were taken to the Lanshan County Public Security Bureau that night and detained for fifteen days. The next day, when their family members requested to see the practitioners at the detention centre, the police demanded that they pay a fee. Every time the family members visited, they were either forced to pay meal fees or fines. Zhou Baisheng was taken to the Xinkaipu Labour Camp in Changsha City, Hunan Province where he was sentenced to a year of "re-education" through labour. Li Xiyu was sentenced to a year of "re-education" through labour at the Baimalong Women's Labour Camp in Zhuzhou City.
  • Ms. Tian Huiying Persecuted in Guangdong Women's Forced Labour Camp Before Her Death

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Tian Huiying was arrested on February 15th, 2004. The persecution that she suffered in the Guangdong Province Shanshui Women's Forced Labour Camp left her emaciated and led to her death on July 6th, 2005. The labour camp authorities claimed that she died in a car accident, compensated her family 30,000 yuan (about USD$4429), and cremated her body to close the case, washing their hands free of any allegations. One witness at the labour camp recounts: "I saw Ms. Tian walk up to a guard and say something. The guard spat at her, and two drug offenders started beating her in front of everybody. The practitioners and other inmates were shocked and shouted at the thugs to protest the violence in broad daylight. That was the last time I saw Ms. Tian."
  • Persecution Suffered by Ms. Jiao Ling and Her Eleven-Year-Old Daughter Since 1999

    Yan Xintong, an 11-year-old girl from Huadian City, Jilin Province, cried incessantly whenever she thought about her mother. Ms. Jiao Ling, Xintong's mother, has been detained many times because of her belief in Falun Gong. During these past eleven years, Xintong has endured much suffering. Ms. Jiao was arrested on April 23rd, 2010. At 11 p.m., Xintong was unaware of what had happened to her mother and waited alone in the dark for her. She was only eleven years old, but every day after school she went to the police station to demand that Yu Xiaoqiang release her mother. Yu Xiaoqiang later had her taken to an orphanage.
  • English Teacher Banned from Going Abroad for Believing in Falun Gong

    Ms. He Meirong, an English teacher at Zhaoshi Senior High School in Tianmen City, Hubei Province, has been sentenced to forced labour three times and detained at brainwashing centres twice since the Chinese Communist Party began persecuting Falun Gong, simply because she persisted in her belief in Falun Gong. When Ms. He was detained at the Shayang Forced Labour Camp for the first time, she was tortured, both physically and mentally. This year, Ms. He Meirong went to the authorities and applied to travel abroad. However, after the staff went through the records in the computer system she was refused a passport.
  • The Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in Shanxi Women's Forced Labour Camp

    Right now all the practitioners who refuse to participate in singing Communist Party songs at Shanxi Women's Forced Labour Camp or who will not repeat the camp oath are detained in the exercise room and forced to sit on a bench. They are forced to sit upright without moving, are forbidden to rest, and can only go back to their cells at night. These practitioners are between 45 and 69 years old. Ms. Wang Xiuying has been spitting up blood because of the constant torture. The abuse at the forced labour camp continues today.
  • Ms. Zhu Guilian, 62, from Changde City, Hunan Province Dies as a Result of Persecution

    Ms. Zhu Guilian from Changde City, Hunan Province was held at a detention centre for one year before being released in February 2010, due to a critical medical condition. Police took Ms. Zhu from the detention centre to a mental hospital. Ms. Zhu told others that she was injected with a drug while she was held in the Changde City Mental Hospital. She constantly spat up blood and regularly had bloody stools. Her weight decreased from 130 pounds to 77 pounds after eight months of imprisonment. Previously, she had been arrested and jailed on many occasions for her belief in Falun Gong. Ms. Zhu died on May 5th.
  • "House of Love" in Xiaguan District, Nanjing City Tortures Falun Gong Practitioners

    The so-called "House of Love" in the Xiaguan District of Nanjing City is actually a facility which runs brainwashing sessions in an attempt to force Falun Gong practitioners to give up their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Police and Communist Party officials use every means imaginable to arrest practitioners. Some officers break into practitioners' homes and arrest them, while others go to their place of employment and deceive practitioners into attending a brainwashing session. Some even apprehend practitioners right off the street, catching them completely off-guard, and drag them into their police vehicles. Under the officer's directives, several take turns in brainwashing practitioners, threatening and attempting to manipulate them into giving up their practice.
