  • The Arrest of Ms. Liang Yuzhen from Heshan City, Guangdong Province

    On February 25th, 2009, Ms. Liang Yuzhen was arrested by police officers from Heshan City. She was reported to the police while she distributed Falun Gong informational materials in the countryside. At 9:00 p.m., her home was ransacked. The police took Ms. Liang, whose hands were handcuffed behind her back, to her home. Only her 89-year-old grandmother was there. The police didn't show any search warrant but searched her home anyway, leaving her apartment in a mess. They also confiscated what cash she had at home and took some of the informational materials, as well as Falun Gong books, her brother's computer, and other items. The police didn't have any legal documents for her arrest, to search the home, or for her detention.
  • Ms. Zuo Lizhi Secretly Sentenced to Five Years of Imprisonment by Yi County Court in Liaoning Province

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zuo Lizhi of Yi County in Liaoning Province was given a secret trial on October 10th, 2008 by the Yi County Court. During the hearing Zuo Lizhi talked about how she gained physical and mental benefits from practising Falun Gong. The lawyer also defended her on the grounds that she was innocent. However, the court still sentenced her to three years of imprisonment. She appealed the sentence and was subsequently given a five-year sentence.
  • Mr. Yang Ming from Sichuan Province Sentenced to Five Years of Imprisonment

    Mr. Yang Ming is 43 years old. After 10 months of detainment, the Police and Justice Department of Jiangyang District, Luzhou City, Sichuan Province started a secret trial. The detention period from the arrest to the sentencing was more than a year which exceeds the legal period. The Procuratorate of Jiangyang District charged him with the crime of being in an "evil cult." Jiangyang District Court did not uphold the law and dismiss the trumped up charges, but instead, secretly tried Yang Ming and sentenced him to five years of imprisonment.
  • Ms. Niu Yanhong Arrested and Sentenced; Her Elderly Mother Appeals for Justice

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Niu Yanhong from Jilin City, Jilin Province, was arrested and secretly sentenced. Not long ago she was taken to the Heizuizi Women's Prison in Changchun City, where she continues to be persecuted. Ms. Niu Yanhong is 33 years old, and her entire family depends on her wages to maintain a living. Her over 60-year-old mother is seeking justice for her daughter and appealing for people's attention.
  • Three Persecution Cases of Qingdao Falun Gong Practitioners

    Falun Gong practitioner Hu Keling described her treatment while she was in a mental hospital: "We were tied down on a bed day and night, with hands and feet tied to the bed frame. There was a rope that held the body down on the bed across the chest. One could not turn on the bed, and had no choice but to relieve oneself on the bed. I began a hunger strike against this inhumane treatment. They force-fed me and left the feeding tube in me which caused severe nausea. Five male patients pinned me down on the concrete floor, removed my trousers and gave me injections every few days. After one month, I could not see things clearly, my periods stopped, and I developed tremors of my upper and lower extremities. I felt foggy headed and extreme fearful."
  • Five-year-old Girl Tricked into Helping Police Persecute Her Parents in Chengdu, Sichuan Province

    The Longquanyi District Police Department had been looking for an excuse to arrest and persecute Mr. Li Changli. In December 2008, Mr. Li and his wife, Ms. Liu Lifen, were arrested and were sentenced to one and a half years of forced labour was detained in the Xishanping Forced Labour Camp and Ms. Liu was held in the Shimaping Women's Forced Labour Camp. On January 13th, 2009 police went to Mr. Li's home and asked his 5-year-old daughter a lot of personal, probing questions. The police later used the child's fingerprint "evidence" and her "testimonial" to sentence Mr. Li and his wife to forced labour without going to trial.
  • Exposing the Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners at Xinyi Police Station and Qianjin Forced Labour Camp in Harbin City

    On August 1st, 2007, I went to Xinyi Police Station in Harbin City to give a letter to director Zhao Chengyin and police officer Wang Wei. The letter advised them to stop committing crimes against Falun Gong and attempted to awaken their conscience. Abruptly, seven to eight officers rushed in and arrested me. They pressed me down on the ground and handcuffed me behind my back, causing excruciating pain. They dragged me to a detention centre and later a forced labour camp where I was often beaten. They used every possible means to persecute me.
  • Luan Guizhi from Jiamusi City Describes Her Experience of Being Arrested

    On December 23rd, 2008, I went to Falun Gong practitioner Yuan Yuqin's home. At around 3 p.m., someone knocked on the door. Yuqin opened the door and five or six policemen came in. Some of them started to ransack the room. Yuqin stopped them. A policeman asked my name and where I lived. I did not answer. They arrested us and took us to a police station. They sent us to a hospital for an examination. Two policemen, two policewomen, and the doctor dragged me to the bed in the examination room. In order to take off my trousers, they pulled my down jacket upward, so that my face was covered by the jacket. I was almost choked. They took us back to the police station later. Yuan Yuqin and I sat on a backless stool for a whole night.
  • Mr. Tian Haicheng and Ms. Cui Yajing from Haicheng City, Liaoning Province, Arrested

    On February 24th, 2009, officers from the Niuzhuang Town Police Station in Haicheng City, Liaoning Province, took Mr. Tian Baocheng and Ms. Cui Yajing away from their homes. The excuse was that they had attended a gathering held by a Falun Gong practitioner. Mr. Tian Baocheng's younger brother, Mr. Tian Baodong, has been detained in forced labour camps twice because he practises Falun Gong. As a result of torture, he cannot walk or take care of himself. Previously, Ms. Cui Yajing had been sentenced to three years in prison because she distributed flyers about Falun Gong.
  • Ms. Zheng Huixiang Homeless for Eight Years, Police Repeatedly Arrest Her Family Members and Ransack Her House

    On March 4th, 2009, police went to the home of Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zheng Huixiang and searched her house. In 2001 Ms. Zheng left her home to avoid persecution and was forced to move from place to place. It has been eight years since she became homeless. Police then took her husband Cai Peijun and her son Cai Yiming to the Xiguan Police Station. In the afternoon of March 5th, Cai Peijun was released but Cai Yiming was sent to a detention centre and was severely mistreated there.
  • Lawyers' Right to Defend Clients Denied by Huanggu District Court in Shenyang City

    On February 6th, 2009, Huanggu District Court in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province commenced a trial for six Falun Gong practitioners. The court obstructed entry to the courtroom by the ten defence lawyers by requesting a "security check." The lawyers refused to cooperate and left the courthouse. The trial went on without the lawyers and adjourned after only two hours. Wang Yajun from Beijing, one of the ten lawyers, explained the interference they encountered. "When we arrived at the courthouse, deputy court administrator Zhang and the presiding judge summoned us to the conference room, reiterating certain requirements. They told us higher echelons had directed that the accusations against any Falun Gong cases cannot be changed. We replied that we would do what was right according to the law."
  • Retired Teacher Ms. Wang Xiulan from Dalian City Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison

    Ms. Wang Xiulan from Jinzhou District, Dalian City was sentenced to seven years in prison by the Ganjingzi District Court in Dalian City. On the morning of April 5th, 2008, Ms. Wang was arrested by police officers for telling people the truth about Falun Gong. She was later taken to the Yaojia Detention Centre in Dalian City. While Ms. Wang was at the centre, police officers ransacked her home and confiscated some of her personal property, including a copy of the Falun Gong book, Zhuan Falun. The police did not inform Ms. Wang's family that they had arrested her, nor did they tell the family about her upcoming court trial. Everything that the officers did was carried out in secret.

    I am a young Falun Gong practitioner from Qiqihar. In 1999, the Chinese Communist Party started to persecute Falun Gong. I was 9 at that time. I was afraid. Later my dad was sentenced to forced labour and imprisoned at the Fuyu Forced Labour Camp. He was put through brainwashing sessions and suffered brutal torture. I felt very lonely and miserable. I asked myself again and again why such a good practice was slandered. In 2002 my dad was imprisoned again and I was left alone and had no one to depend on. At school, the director treated me very rudely. He pushed my chest and yelled at me. Other students frequently insulted me and scratched my face shouting at me, "He practises Falun Gong."
  • Disabled Woman Sent to Jiangxi Province Forced Labour Camp

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhu Ruixia can't walk properly because half the sole of her right foot was cut off. After she had been detained for a month, it was even harder for her to walk, yet she was still sentenced to two years in a labour camp by the Balihu Public Security Sub-bureau. She is currently detained at Jiangxi Province Women's Forced Labour Camp. On November 7th, 2008, forcefully dragged practitioner Zhu Ruixia to a police van. Because so much force was used, Zhu Ruixia's thigh was injured when being caught at the door.
  • Three Practitioners Arrested in Kunming City, Yunnan Province

    On January 1st, 2009, Mr. Zhang Liang was arrested for distributing Falun Gong fliers in the Ma Street Building Supplies Market in Kunming City. He was taken to the police station and handcuffed behind his back to a metal door until 11:00 a.m. on the second day. Mr. Zhang's hands and wrists swelled up badly when the officer released the handcuffs after repeated requests from Mr. Zhang's family. On January 3rd, Mr. Zhang was taken to the Xishan District Detention Centre. He was sentenced to two years of forced labour and transferred to the Yunnan Province Secondary Forced Labour Camp on February 4th.
