Mr. Han Zhong from Tongling City, Anhui Province was subjected to detention from May to June last year. It is said that at the end of last year, the police secretly locked him up for six years of imprisonment without following due legal process. Before that, Mr. Han had many times suffered persecution and was even beaten so severely by police officers from the Nanhu Forced Labour Camp in Anhui Province that he lost his eyesight, becoming permanently blind. His parents and other family members have also suffered long-term harassment.

From 2001 to 2007, Mr. Han Zhong was many times subjected to forced labour by the local 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and detained in the Nanhu Forced Labour Camp. Located in Xuancheng City, Anhui Province, the Nanhu Forced Labour Camp is the place where all male Falun Gong practitioners in Anhui Province are taken after if they are arrested. It is so horrible that it is commonly known among the local people that people taken here are often killed or paralysed.

When Mr. Han Zhong was persecuted in the Nanhu Forced Labour Camp during the summer of 2001, he suffered harsh torture. It is said that the police hung him from the bars on the windows around the clock for over two weeks. In addition, the guards forbade Mr. Han from sleeping and using the toilet, leaving him to be bitten by mosquitoes. Moreover, the guards even used high-voltage electric prods to beat Mr. Han, once doing so for more than four hours. In addition to all the above, at the encouragement of the guards, the prisoners often cursed and beat Mr. Han, which caused severe devastation to his body and mind.

Around November 2006, Mr. Han was again subjected to harsh torture by a number of prisoners and guards, blinding him.

Mr. Han recalled that he was going to the labour factory one day, but was stopped by two prisoners. The two deliberately caused him trouble, and then called the guards over. Mr. Han Zhong planned to clarify the truth to the guards, however, without listening to his explanation, one guard struck his head and the other guard beat his right eye, causing it to bleed immediately. Several more guards came to drag Mr. Han into their office and continued beating him even though they saw that Mr. Han's right eye was bleeding.

When a guard named Wang Taiping later discovered that Mr. Han stopped performing forced labour, he came to interrogate him. Mr. Han told Wang Taiping that his right eye was bruised and very painful, and asked to go to hospital to have it looked at. However, Wang Taiping refused his request and beat him again.

Mr. Han didn't receive any medical treatment for his injury. Finally on April 5th, 2007, he was given an examination and was told that his right eye was now permanently blind.
