It was the Lantern Festival on February 28th, 2010 and families were having a happy reunion and enjoying the New Year together. But on this day, Falun Gong practitioner Huang Guang from Harbin City was on his way home when he met a pedestrian and told him about the persecution of Falun Gong. Soon he was arrested by police from the Zhengyanghe Police Station in the Daoli Section of Harbin City.

Mr. Huang, 46, grew up in a village of the Hulan region of Harbin City. He is an outstanding person and made a good living operating his own business developing feed formula. Mr. Huang was arrested and imprisoned numerous times for practising Falun Gong.

When the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started persecuting Falun Gong practitioners on July 20th, 1999, Mr. Huang went to Beijing to tell people about Falun Gong. The first time he went to Beijing, he was arrested and detained for 15 days. The second time he went to Beijing, he was arrested and detained in the Beijing Deputy Office of Harbin City. Along with some other practitioners, Mr. Huang was able to escape, but then the CCP put out a nationwide warrant for his arrest. They harassed everyone who knew Mr. Huang and even went to the village where he grew up to try to find him.

Police used the arrest warrant to seize Mr. Huang's property and extort money from his family. On account of his first arrest, they fined his family 3,000 yuan1 and added another 320 yuan for food. In connection with the second arrest, they charged his family a 1,720 yuan "escape fee." Yang Shouyi from the Political and Security Department of the Dongli Public Security Bureau extorted 3,000 yuan from his family, and Guanxin extorted an additional 2,000 yuan. In November 2000, Yang Shouyi and Zhou Chunjie of the Dongli Public Security Bureau, and Wang Chunhua of the Zhaoyang Police Department, confiscated Mr. Huang's computer, which was worth 8,000 yuan. In December of 2000, Yang Shouyi and Jiang Shizhao, of the Zhaoyang Police Department, confiscated a minibus worth approximately 40 to 50 thousand yuan from Mr. Huang's family. It was never returned. Later Wang Chunhua and Jiang Shizhao went to search Mr. Huang's home in the middle of the night and intimidated his wife and child. Some time later, Jiang Shizhao again went back in the middle of the night, but Mr. Huang's family refused to open the door. During the New Year of 2002, Jiang Shizhao extorted 500 yuan from Mr. Huang's family.

Mr. Huang was forced to live as a fugitive, alone and unable to work. Once, during the New Year, he stayed alone indoors for eight days without going out. His father developed a serious illness that only grew worse as he worried about his son, and he died without having a chance to say goodbye to him.

Prior to learning Falun Gong, Mr. Huang constantly quarrelled with his wife and often scolded and beat his child. In the winter of 1997, he had a car accident and a portion of his skull was shattered so severely that it had to be replaced with a piece of plastic. Although his life was saved, the injury caused chronic complications and after he was released from the hospital, he continued to suffer headaches and chest pains. Medicine didn't help with the complications or the pain, and Mr. Huang began to develop mental problems. Disabled and unable to pursue his career, he became extremely depressed and frequently lost his temper.

While Mr. Huang was still in the hospital, one of his relatives advised him to practise Falun Gong. Given that nothing else was working, he decided to give it a try and began reading the Falun Gong book Zhuan Falun. When he read Zhuan Falun, he felt good and the headache disappeared. Later, he started doing the exercises. Once he began reading the book and doing the exercises regularly, his condition improved very quickly. Through cultivating his moral character, Huang Guang held himself to the high standard of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance". He changed his attitude, looked at things differently and no longer fought with others. His impatience was replaced with kindness. He felt light and his spirit was high. His family became happy and harmonious, but it only lasted for one year because in 1999, the CCP started persecuting Falun Gong.
