REUTERS - 15th Oct.2003 in Madrid.

A lawsuit charging former the Chinese leader Jiang Zemin and Luo Gan with genocide and crimes of torture was filed by members of the Falun Gong spiritual movement in Spain on the 15th October.

The lawsuit was filed in the Spanish National Court by the lawyer Mr Carlos Iglesias, who was accompanied by some of the plaintiffs. Spanish judges are authorised by law to accept and hear any accusations concerning crimes against humanity around the world, in this case the plaintiffs have filed a lawsuit against Jiang Zemin.

Lawyer Mr Carlos Iglesias told the press “This morning we filed for charges against Jiang and Luo for genocide and crimes of torture against Falun Gong practitioners.” “The most horrific human rights violation since the second World War has been occurring in China for the past four years.”

The Plaintiffs are fifteen Falun Gong practitioners from Australia, China, the United States and Spain and are first-hand victims of this persecution.

Jiang Zemin, the former Chinese president, now head of the Central Military Commission who is still manipulating the Chinese Regime, and Luo Gan, Minister of the Chinese Public Security Department and a Politburo Standing Committee member, are accused of being the principle criminals of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.

Lawyer Mr Carlos Iglesias said, “The aim of the lawsuit is to stop the persecution and to prevent people who are committing crimes against Falun Gong practitioners from getting away with murder.”

It is estimated that about 800 to 2000 practitioners have been tortured to death and at least 200,000 people have been thrown into labour camps since the persecution in 1999.

One of the plaintiffs is an Australian citizen, Jane Dai (Jane Zhizhen Dai), whose husband submitted an appeal letter for Falun Gong two years ago and was consequently arrested, detained and tortured to death by policemen as a result of this. Jane Dai told the press, via a translator, about the persecution her husband experienced with her three-year-old daughter in her arms.
