The following is a report from the Spanish newspaper “Electronic Freedom Times” on the 15th of October, 2003:

15 Falun Gong members have filed a lawsuit against the ex-president of China, who is now the Leader of China’s Military, at the Spanish National Court, suing him for genocide and crimes of torture.

The prosecuting lawyers, accompanied by six complainants included one Spanish citizen, handed the lawsuit to the National Court. After that they held a press conference and announced the lawsuit to the media. The Head of the Police Force and Commissioner of the Politics Department, Luo Gan, has also been sued. The complainants include Australian, American, Chinese and Spanish people. By presenting victims of the persecution, they accused the Chinese government [Jiang's Regime] of a large-scale persecution of Falun Gong, under the guise of naming it an evil cult and disturbing social order.

The indictment points out that to this day, there are approximately 2,000 Falun Gong practitioners detained in Chinese prisons, suffering from torture and being persecuted to death. Hundreds of thousands of people have been locked up in labour camps, more than 2,000 people have been forcefully detained in mental hospitals and have suffered from mental and physical tortures, as well as being maltreated by the misuse of medicines.

Violations of Human Rights

Falun Gong has said, “This is a period in the history of mankind where human rights are being most severely violated.” Therefore, they strongly believe that the National Spanish Court will judge Jiang and Luo by international law, while doing their best to “Prevent those who have committed huge crimes from escaping punishment, because in China they won’t be tried by any legal measures.”

Among the 15 complainants, there is a Spanish citizen called Victor Sanchez and an American of Spanish descendent called Alejandro Centurion. They, together with 34 other western Falun Gong practitioners, went to Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China in 2001 to unfurl a banner reading “Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance”. Because of this, the Chinese police immediately detained them.

Falun Gong practitioners who were in attendance did not think that there is any legal explanation for why their belief is being persecuted. Falun Gong is a complete cultivation system, which consists of exercises and meditation, practising both the mind and the body. Since 1992, when the practice began to spread, it received great support from the Chinese government. Nevertheless, due to the fact that the number of practitioners grew so fast, the Chinese government [the Jiang Regime] began to feel afraid, because millions of people were practising freely in public, and had their own beliefs. Because of this, [the regime] used the police and the media to start an unjust crackdown.
