Gothenburg May 25 2003

Most Honourable Prime Minister Pol. Lt. Col. Thaksin Shinawatra

A dear friend of mine, Swedish citizen and nurse Pirjo Svensson, was detained in Bangkok and her Visa cancelled on the 29th of April, 2003. She is still being detained in custody at the Thai immigration office. She has done nothing wrong and has not broken any laws. In fact no-one has explained to her why her Visa has been cancelled. According to media reports from around the world, she is detained in a place, which is hot and crowded, with 90 square meters’ room for between 90-200 people. Also, she is only permitted to go out in the open for fresh air once a week and only for 10-20 minutes. This is certainly not a place for a kind-hearted Swedish woman and she should be released immediately.

The Swedish media have reported extensively on Pirjo and we, Falun Gong practitioners in Sweden, have taken to the streets to collect many, many signatures to rescue her. We have a large picture of her with words “Signature collection for Pirjo Svensson, unjustly jailed in Thailand”. Thousands upon thousands of people have seen this display board.

Many Swedish people react to learning about Ms. Svensson’s case by saying that they will not travel to Thailand, because this shows that there is a risk of being arrested and jailed without reason.

We all know that Thailand is a beautiful country with wonderful people. I have also experienced this. Please correct this mistake and let the world know that Thailand is a country with human rights. Don’t be fooled by the Chinese propaganda about Falun Gong. Falun Gong is appreciated and supported in more than 50 countries all over the world and don’t let the Chinese regime put pressure on Thai authorities to commit crimes against humanity.

I appeal to you as a fellow human being to help obtain Pirjo’s immediate release.

Yours sincerely
