Two Practitioners Arrested Again after Spending Six Years in Prison

A dozen police officers broke into the home of Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Guan Rian and his wife, Ms. Zhao Xin, on April 2nd, 2014. The couple, in their 30s, was arrested and held in the Mudanjiang Detention Centre. Previously, the couple was arrested in 2002 and put on trial. Each was sentenced to six years in prison. Ms. Zhao was taken to Heilongjiang Women's Prison and Mr. Guan to Mudanjiang Prison. In prison, guards brutally beat Ms. Zhao. She went on a hunger strike and the authorities force-fed her. -
Ms. Sun Libin's Personal Account of the Persecution She Suffered for Upholding Her Belief
2014-05-20Ms. Sun Libin, 59, previously suffered from migraines and stomach problems. She benefited physically and mentally after she took up the cultivation practice of Falun Gong. However, she was arrested and imprisoned merely for distributing DVDs exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. Ms. Sun was sentenced to three and a half years of prison in Harbin Women's Prison in 2011. She developed tuberculosis as a result of the torture and poor living conditions she suffered while imprisoned, and was detained in the prison hospital for more than seven months. The prison did not allow her medical parole. -
Bedridden Practitioner Passes Away After Witnessing Fellow Practitioners' Arrest
2014-05-19Police broke into the home of bedridden Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhao Lije, in her 60s, on April 12th, 2014, and arrested five practitioners who were taking care of her. The police ransacked Ms. Zhao's home and confiscated a computer, 1,000 yuan, and Falun Gong books and materials. Ms. Lijie passed away on April 17th, five days after the police arrested the five practitioners. -
Mr. Wang Wenzhang from Liaoning Province Passed Away as a Result of Persecution
2014-05-19Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Wenzhang was persecuted repeatedly for upholding his practice of Falun Gong. Most recently he was arrested and sentenced to four years in prison in March 2009. He was brutally tortured in Dongling Prison and suffered a stroke. He was released on bail for medical treatment in early 2013. It was too late however, and within the next six months Mr. Wang became paralyzed. On March 28th, 2014, at the age of 65, he lost his life. -
84 Falun Gong Practitioners Confirmed Still Detained in Liaoning Women's Prison
2014-05-13Ms. Liu Zhi, 51, a Falun Gong practitioner from Shenyang, was arrested on October 22nd, 2009. She was sentenced to four years in prison in July 2011. At Liaoning Women's Prison, she was subjected to the “stretching” torture, high noise levels, and frequent blood tests. The police also put unknown drugs in her food. Ms. Liu became paralysed from the waist down and incontinent in less than six months. When she was taken to the hospital on March 8th, 2013, after losing consciousness, the doctors didn't even know how to treat her and they refused to admit her. So Ms. Liu was released on bail and taken home to recover. -

Taxi Driver Brutally Tortured in Detention for Two Months
2014-05-13Mr. Zhao Fuqiang, a Falun Gong practitioner from Hegang City, Heilongjiang Province, was arrested on June 14th, 2013. He was brutally tortured, including being shocked with electric batons and force-fed, during the two months he was detained in the Hegang City Second Detention Centre and the Hegan City Brainwashing Centre. -
Mr. Zhang Hongwei Tortured in Prison for 13 Years
2014-05-13Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Hongwei went to Beijing in 2001 to appeal for the right to practise Falun Gong. He was arrested by police and first held in a detention centre, then in the Beijing Police Department No.7 Division. Later, he was sentenced to 13 years' imprisonment by the Fangshan District Court. Mr. Zhang protested the persecution by going on a hunger strike for two months, and was brutally force-fed. Subsequently, he had to repeatedly endure inhumane torture. -
70-Year-Old Mr. Lou Zhenkang Secretly Sentenced to Three Years in Prison
2014-05-06The brother of 70-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Lou Zhenkang received a letter from the Zhejiang No. 2 Prison in February 2014, saying that Mr. Lou was sentenced to three years and has been taken to the prison on January 24th, 2014. Prior to this, his family had received no information about him for the past one and a half years while he was being held at the Jinhua Detention Centre since his arrest in August 2012. -
Ms. Wang Xiaohui Brutally Tortured and Wrongfully Imprisoned for Eleven Years
2014-05-06Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Xiaohui has spent 11 out of the past 15 years in prison. She has been arrested multiple times and taken to forced labour camps twice. She returned home in March 2014 after serving a seven-year prison term. In the police station, the police handcuffed Ms. Wang’s arms behind her back and pinned her to the ground with the feet of a stool positioned under her arms. She was shocked with electric batons on her private parts. Officers also stepped on Ms. Wang’s back, and then pulled her cuffed hands upwards forcefully. They also shocked her chest with electric batons, and her toenails fell off after being repeatedly hit with a club. -
Summary Report: Death Cases of Falun Gong Practitioners in Beijing (Part II)
2014-05-06A witness recounted how a twenty-year-old woman Falun Gong practitioner in Tuanhe Labour Camp was killed through repeated punitive forced-feedings. The girl was tied to a bed in the spread eagle position and several inmates were ordered to sit on her chest, legs and arms. She was force-fed with two basins of salty water. One inmate kicked her hard in the abdomen. They repeated the same forced-feeding and kicking. The witness saw her again a couple of days later. She had suffered a mental collapse. Her face looked greenish and covered with sores. She was tortured even more brutally on the fourth day and died on the eighth day. -
The “Transforming” Torture Package Used by the Beijing Forced Labour Camp System
2014-05-06I was detained in Beijing Forced Labour Dispatch Division in 2008, and afterwards incarcerated in Beijing Women’s Forced Labour Camp. I suffered through every single step of the “transforming package” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] that the forced labour system uses. As a result I was severely traumatized, both mentally and physically. Practitioners are forced to sign their names on the pre-drafted statements to accept the contents that slander Falun Gong. Refusing to sign the statements results in the practitioners being subjected to a series of “transforming” methods. -
74-Year-Old Mr. Zhao Yancheng Dies After Repeated Persecution
2014-05-06Mr. Zhao Yancheng, 74, died as a result of persecution on March 21st, 2014. He had been repeatedly arrested and detained over the past 15 years. He also experienced harassment and ransacking of his home just because he persisted in practising Falun Gong. Mr. Zhao was sentenced to three years in a forced labour camp in October 2000 because he explained the facts about Falun Gong to the local government. In October 2012, he was taken to the Jingshan Reservoir Brainwashing Centre. He was forced to squat for a long period of time in a dark room, tied to an iron chair and subjected to brainwashing. -
Sentenced to Seven Years, 72-Year-Old Former Teacher Dies as a Result of the Persecution
2014-05-06Retired teacher and Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Xin Lianfu died as a result of the persecution on March 18th, 2014, at the age of 72. Mr. Xin and his wife were both sentenced to seven years in prison. While in prison, Mr. Xin was diagnosed with extremely high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes. When he was not even able to walk, he was released on medical parole. The police harassed Mr. Xin after he was out on parole. -
Older Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Tan Xiangyu Died after 14 Years of Relentless Persecution
2014-05-06Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Tan Xiangyu died on February 24th, 2014, at the age of 66 after 14 years of relentless persecution. Local officials even attempted to brainwash her 15 days before her death, when she was already in critical condition. Ms. Tan's death is indicative of how the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) carries out its policy to “destroy them [Falun Gong practitioners] physically." A Hunan Women's Prison guard even swore publicly, “If we capture her again, she will not be released for any medical treatment and she will die in prison.”
