Former Deputy Director of Chamber of Commerce Twice Held in Forced Labour Camp

Ms. Li Shujie, 60, was locked in Hohhot Women's Forced Labour Camp in 2006. She was monitored by four inmates around the clock and was not able to have contact with other practitioners. Guards and other personnel who had renounced Falun Gong continually attempted to brainwash her. When Ms. Li refused to renounce Falun Gong, the guards started to scold, yell and scorn her. She was not allowed to shower and was forced to stand for a long period of time as punishment. She was forced to sleep on the cold floor, and her chest hurt so much that she couldn't turn over. She became very weak from her hunger strike, physical illnesses, and being tortured. -
Mr. Gu Huaibing from Chengdu Was Persecuted by Wang Pengfei
2010-01-18Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Gu Huaibing was arrested by police while he was working on July 21st, 2009. On August 5th and 6th, the director of the Domestic Security Division refused to allow Mr. Gu's lawyer to meet with Gu. His two lawyers went to complain about the director to the Chengdu Procuratorate. Mr. Gu told his lawyer he was being severely persecuted. Mr. Gu was tied to a metal window. The "investigating officer" poured water on him and jabbed him with a stick to keep him awake. The second day, Mr. Gu was tied to the window again and punched in the chest. He was told that the beating was "compliments of" the national dictatorship department. -
Ms. Yan Chunling Sentenced to Prison For Nine Years--Inhumanly Tortured In Prison
2010-01-18In 2003, Yan Chunling was arrested when she visited a Falun Gong practitioner at her home. In the detention centre, Yan Chunling was forcibly cuffed at the hands and feet for more than forty days, and later sentenced to prison for nine years. On April 29th, 2004, she was sent to Heilongjiang Women's Prison. In the prison, she was subjected to a variety of tortures for long periods of time. These inhuman tortures included solitary confinement for a very long time, being handcuffed with her hands behind her back for 96 days, denied use of the toilet and showers, and many other tortures. In April 2008, the prison stopped allowing Yan Chunling's family to visit her. Her condition now is unknown. -
An Elderly Mother's Appeal
2010-01-17I am a mother in my 70s. In September 2009, my son, Lu Zhiyong, came to visit me but was arrested on his way home. I have been worried about his well being ever since. Recently I heard that he will be tried in Heishui County Court. In 2001 police arrested Zhiyong for going to Beijing to make an appeal for Falun Gong. They sent him to the Xinhua Forced Labour Camp for an 18-month sentence. Zhiyong was tortured in many different ways in the forced labour camp. He was forced to stand still from 6:00 a.m. to midnight. The next day, he was beaten in the chest so brutally that he was unable to talk or even move without a great deal of pain. He was tied up with very thin ropes eight times within ten days; he was shocked with one to four electric batons at a time; and he was beaten with a club covered with nails. -
Ms. Wang Lihua Imprisoned for Seven Years and Paralysed as a Result of Abuse
2010-01-17In November 2002, the Jianshan Court in Shuangyashan City sentenced Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Lihua to seven years in prison. Her term was then extended by three years because she called aloud "Falun Gong is good!" Since then, she has been persecuted and abused for more than seven years and is now unable to take care of herself. On December 18th, 2009, the daughter of Ms. Wang Lihua, was notified by the police to pick up her mother at the Heilongjiang Women's Prison because she was seriously ill. Ms. Wang was paralysed due to tuberculosis of the spine. -
Former Deputy Head of County Appeals Bureau and Family Are Persecuted
2010-01-17Ms. Liu Jinying was arrested in August 2000 and sentenced to 5 years because of her belief in Falun Gong. In prison she was tortured by various means, including forced administration of toxic drugs. The persecution methods included monitoring by inmates, solitary confinement, electric shock, her ankles being tied up tightly with nylon ropes, deprivation of sleep and use of toilet, being beaten and kicked, forced intake of toxic drugs, mental torment, and brutal force-feeding. -
Chen Zhizhong of Dezhou City, Shandong Province Sentenced to Forced Labour Again
2010-01-17In late October 2009, Mr. Chen Zhizhong from Dezhou City, Shandong Province was sentenced to forced labour again for practising Falun Gong. His family questioned policeman Zhang Xikun, "Why didn't you notify the family when you took him away?" Zhang replied, "There is no reason. I had to do it. Back in 2001, we sentenced him to three years of forced labour. This time we are not as tough and will sentence him to only one year." -
Elderly Lady, Previous Handicapped due to Abuse, Again Arrested and Tortured
2010-01-16On September 15th, 2009, the Heishan County Domestic Security Division dispatched the entire team to arrest Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Jiang Hailan. They spent nearly three hours ransacking the home. Ms. Jiang started a hunger strike to protest the detention, but the guards ignored her. They sent her to the Jinzhou First Detention Centre. On the 11th day of her hunger strike, four guards at the detention centre pressed her down and inserted a thick tube through her nostrils to force-feed her. It was very painful for her. Ms. Jiang had been persecuted since November 2002 and had become handicapped as a result. -
Ph.D. Student Develops Mental Disorder after Serving Two Terms in Forced Labour Camp
2010-01-16Mr. Huang Hongqi, a quiet student in a Ph.D. programme, was twice sent to a forced labour camp, where he suffered five years of brutal mistreatment that caused him to have a mental breakdown. In December, 1999 police sentenced him to two and a half years of forced labour. He was held in the Dalian Correction Centre. The Dalian Institute of Technology stripped him of his Ph.D. candidacy. Mr. Huang refused to renounce his belief in Falun Gong and was beaten, shocked, and subjected to the "tiger bench" torture. He suffered additional consequences because of the torture he endured in the camp--he lost hearing when his eardrum was ruptured and his nose was damaged during brutal force-feeding. -
Wuzhong District Court in Suzhou City Sentences Ms. Shi Jianping
2010-01-16Despite defence attorney Zhang Chuanli's convincing arguments, Wuzhong District Court officials in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province handed Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Shi Jianping a four-year prison sentence on December 16th, 2009. Mr. Shen Jiandong was finally able to see his wife Ms. Shi Jianping, whom he hadn't seen for more than eight months. Her hair had turned grey, and her now thin face had a yellowish complexion. -
Police Attempt to Suffocate Practitioners with Toxic Fumes
2010-01-16In June 2007, Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Sheng Jinling and Ms. Qian Fengling were reported and arrested by the police while distributing Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution in a village in Hebei Province. In the police station, Ms. Sheng Jinling and Ms. Qian Fengling were handcuffed behind the back of a long chair and the handcuffs were very tight and cut into the flesh. This tall policeman closed all the doors and windows in the room and sprayed a strong irritant, an unknown liquid, into the room from a small window. Ms. Sheng Jinling and Ms. Qian Fengling gasped for air and coughed violently. Tears streamed out of their eyes and they could not open them. Their throats burned from the smoke they inhaled and it lasted about ten to twenty minutes. -
Police of Laiyuan County, Hebei Province: "This is Called 'Strategy' not 'Lying'"
2010-01-15On December 29th, 2009, the village director received a phone call from the police station directing him to inform Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zuo Zewen to immediately go to the police department to pick up his family tricycle. When Mr. Zuo and his wife went to the police department, their tricycle was not there. A policeman offered Mr. Zuo a ride to the police station to pick up the tricycle. But when Mr. Zuo got in the car, Zhang Fang drove him directly to the Gaoyang Forced Labour Camp. When the village director asked the domestic security division officer why the police had lied to him and used him to lie to others, and inquired of how he would be able to explain this to all of the villagers, Wei said, "This is not 'lying', it is 'strategy." -
Mr. Liu Wen Arrested Delivering Milk, His Family in Difficulty
2010-01-15Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Wen and his wife raise diary cows to support their daughter's college education. On September 19th, 2009, Mr. Liu took a bus to deliver milk and was stopped by a government employee. The official identified him as a Falun Gong practitioner after locating his name on a blacklist and took him to the police station. Public Security Bureau officials ransacked Mr. Liu's home when no one was in. Mr. Liu had previously been sentenced to three years of forced labour in 2000. At the Baoding Labour Camp he was subjected to violent brainwashing. The guards tied him to the "dead person's bed" for 17 days, shocked him with several electric batons at once, hitting him in the armpits and in the genitals. -
Older Practitioner Ms. He Yigui Dies as Result of the Persecution in Sichuan Province
2010-01-15On March 3rd, 2009, Ms. He, 67, went to pick up her grandson from school, and she gave a few students some information about Falun Gong. Some of these students reported her to the police, they arrested her and detained her in the Chengdu City Detention Centre. Only several days later, Ms. He suffered from high blood pressure and was rushed to the Qingyang District Community Hospital. In December 2009, the Wuhou District Court notified her family that they planned to put Ms. He on trial. Her family reported her health condition to the court, and she had to be hospitalised. Ms. He was then in critical condition and she died on January 7th, 2010. -
Ms. Zhao Yan from Beijing Detained in Huhehot Women's Forced Labour Camp, Inner Mongolia
2010-01-15Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhao Yan is being persecuted in Huhehot Women's Forced Labour Camp in Inner Mongolia. She has been detained in a small cell for a long period of time and her prison term has been increased. Ms. Zhao was arrested and then detained for two years for distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong around the time of the Beijing Olympic Games. Ms. Zhao Yan steadfastly maintains that Falun Gong is good and does not co-operate with the various forms of persecution in the forced labour camp; she refused to wear the prison uniform, to participate the so-called " forced labour re-education" and refuses to write the guarantee statement to renounce Falun Gong.
