  • Survivors of Liaoning Women's Prison Recount Their Torture

    Ms. Wu Yuping was tortured with electric batons in 2003 and 2004 at the Liaoning Women's Prison. In the Spring of 2003, police used electric batons to shock her mouth, which quickly became badly swollen. Ms. Liu Zhi, 51, was taken to the Liaoning Women's Prison in July 2011. There she was laid out on the “death bed.” Her arms and legs were stretched and secured to the four corners of a metal bed frame. She was kept in this position 24 hours a day for days at a time.

It is strongly suspected that the drugs were instrumental in contributing to Mr. Zhou's decline and eventual death.

  • Mr. Zhang Jinku Tortured While Imprisoned—Can No Longer Speak

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Jinku, was sentenced to five years in prison for his belief in Falun Gong. He can no longer speak, due to being tortured at Hulan Prison in Heilongjiang Province. Mr. Zhang was arrested on March 29th, 2013, and was very healthy at that time. He was brutally beaten during interrogation, and was subjected to various forms of torture. As result, his teeth were knocked out and the left side of his rib cage was injured. His injuries caused an inflammation of the lungs, and he contracted tuberculosis.

    Mr. Zhou Bo's family has become alarmed over his mental state two years into his imprisonment for refusing to give up his belief in Falun Gong, a spiritual practice being persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party. A once healthy man, Mr. Zhou now sits for hours on end with a blank look on his face, and is also suffering from insomnia. Mr. Zhou was arrested on November 20th, 2011 while distributing materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong.

    Fourteen Falun Gong practitioners are confirmed to have been tortured to death in the first three months of 2015. In addition, 16 death cases that occurred between 2007 and 2014 have been recently confirmed. All of the practitioners experienced severe torture before death, including being subjected to brainwashing, brutal beatings, sleep deprivation, and electric shocks.
  • Older Falun Gong Practitioner Dies 4 Months after Release from Prison

    Mr. Yun Zhengqun died on February 13th, four months after his release from years of imprisonment for his belief in Falun Gong, a spiritual practice being persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party. The 64-year-old man was arrested on April 12th, 2007 after a group of police officers broke into his house in the middle of the night. He was later sentenced to seven and a half years. Mr. Yun was brutally tortured while serving his time at Dongling Prison in the city of Shenyang.
  • 80-Year-Old Sentenced a Second Time for Practising Falun Gong

    Ms. Liao An'an was sentenced to five years on February 6th following her arrest last September for practising Falun Gong. The authorities soon transferred her to a local prison without any notification to her family. Prior to her latest imprisonment, the 80-year-old woman from Baiyin City, Gansu Province had been detained many times for exercising her constitutional right to practise Falun Gong. In particular, she was first given five years back in 2008. While incarcerated at Gansu Province Women's Prison, she was brutally beaten and forced to do hard labour for refusing to give up her belief.
  • Woman Force-Fed Unknown Drugs From Detention Centre Toilet

    Arrested and detained for practising Falun Gong, Ms. Cao Guiling was force-fed a pill taken from a detention centre's toilet pit when she resisted the force-feeding of unknown drugs and other substances by guards and doctors. As a result of torture, Ms. Cao became incontinent and unable to take care of herself. She was released for medical treatment in December 2013.
  • Torture Leaves Ms. Wang Haiqing Partially Paralyzed Below the Waist

    Ms. Wang Haiqing has been barbarically tortured in Shandong Women's Prison. She now has symptoms of severe heart disease and malnutrition, and she is partially paralyzed below the waist. Ms. Wang has been repeatedly detained and tortured due to her belief in Falun Gong. Her health has continued to decline, and she is now in critical condition. The police have ransacked her home many times and extorted at least 35,000 yuan in cash from her family.

    “The guards forced me to sit on the floor and pushed my head down,” recalled Mr. Zheng Shoujun. “They next tied my neck to my calves in an angle such that my face and stomach both touched the floor. I was about 200 pounds at the time, and my big belly felt like bursting in this posture.” I was in so much pain that I sweated profusely. For three months, I couldn't walk normally, since my feet and legs were dislocated.” The above is what Mr. Zheng went through at Zhangshi Labour Camp in Shenyang, Liaoning Province. He died as a result of torture a few years later in prison.

    I'm 60 years old. I was arrested for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong in July 2000 and I was tortured for three years at Jinzhou City Forced Labour Camp for my belief in Falun Gong. I was subjected to brainwashing and tortured to force me to denounce my belief. I was tortured both day and night, until I couldn't think straight. My legs became swollen and I could not walk. They didn't stop until I was on the brink of death. As soon as I recovered a bit, they resumed the torture.
  • 69-Year-Old Woman Dies 6 Months After Release on Medical Parole

    “I don't want to die. I still want to live.” This is what Ms. Zhao Yaling said to her family during her final days. She died on January 12th, 2015, six months after her release on medical parole. She was 69. Ms. Zhao and ten other Falun Gong practitioners were arrested over a five-day period last March. Their case was considered a major one by the Ministry of Public Security. The arrest was preceded by months of police monitoring and planning.
