  • Ms. Jiang Pingtian from Qidong County, Hunan Province Incarcerated for Eight and a Half Years, Her Family Persecuted As Well

    After the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999, Ms. Jiang Pingtian was arrested and detained numerous times for standing firm in her belief and explaining the facts of Falun Gong to the public. Just a few months after her last arrest in late 2001, Qidong County Court sentenced her to eight years of incarceration. When she finished serving her sentence, the prison refused to release her on time and extended her term by six months. While holding her in custody, the local police repeatedly interrogated her with torture in an attempt to extract “confessions” from her. They tied her hands and hung her up by a rope to the top of a metal gate for nine days; several policemen took turns beating and kicking her.
  • Ms. Dai Meilan from Shenzhen City Sentenced--Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Shirks Responsibility and Gives Family the Runaround

    Officers from the Dongxiao Police Station of Shenzhen City arrested Ms. Dai Meilan on May 20th, 2011. Without showing any documentation, the police ransacked her home and took her personal belongings. They took her to the Luohu Detention Centre. Ms. Dai was recently sentenced to three years of imprisonment. When Ms. Dai's family went to the Luohu Police Department to file a complaint, the officer on duty claimed, “The police chief doesn't work here. It's none of our business. Go to the Petition Office.” The officer at the Petition Office said, “We have never handled Falun Gong issues.”
  • Mr. Li Haijun and His Wife Imprisoned

    Mr. Li Haijun and his wife, Ms. Liu Huiping were arrested in Changde, Hunan Province in 2009. They were sentenced to prison by the Wuling District Court in 2011. Mr. Li was sentenced to eight and a half years, and is now being held in unit No. 6 of Jinshi Prison in Changde. Ms. Liu was sentenced to seven and a half years, and is currently being held in Changsha Women's Prison.
  • Ms. Liu Hui Has Been on Hunger Strike for 20 Days

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Hui was arrested at home on December 14th, 2011, by three officers from Fuqin Police Station. The next day, she started a hunger strike to protest her arrest. It lasted for more than 20 days. She is currently being held at Chengdu City Detention Centre Hospital. Her family is not allowed to visit her and they are worried about her condition.
  • Persecution Methods Used at the Jixi City Brainwashing Centre in Heilongjiang Province

    The Jixi City Brainwashing Centre is one of the many locations in China where the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) persecutes Falun Gong practitioners. When a person is suddenly locked up alone in a completely closed-off environment and treated as a criminal, cut off from all contact with the outside world and from normal dealings with people, they feel a tremendous mental pressure. People in this situation often develop feelings of inexplicable fear, loneliness and despair. The entire environment that Falun Gong practitioners are placed in is designed to make them feel that once they enter the brainwashing centre, there is no way out other than to be “tranformed” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong].
  • Elderly Couple from Sichuan Province Can't Return Home for Chinese New Year

    Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Gao Yinli and his wife, nearly 80 years old, are from Mianyang City, Sichuan Province. After their son's arrest in November 2011, they were forced to leave home for over two months to avoid being persecuted. Police officers often go to the couple's home to coerce their children into disclosing their parents' whereabouts. Even with the Chinese New Year around the corner, the elderly couple was forced to stay away from home.
  • Visiting an Sentenced Relative, Three Innocent People Are Detained

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zheng Hongying was arrested on September 6th, 2011, and on November 18th she was put on trial in Qingyuan County Court. Chinese Communist Party members were plotting to put her in prison. On November 25th, more than a dozen of Ms. Zheng's relatives, including her distant relatives, Wang Nanfang and Guan Yan, went to Qingyuan County Courthouse to inquire about Ms. Zheng. The result was that Wang Nanfang and Guan Yan have now also been detained. Ms. Zheng Hongying didn't look at all good in court. She was dizzy and had unbearable chest pain caused by the terrible beating she had been given by two officers with the Nankouqian police station.
  • Xiangtan Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Yao Jianping Arrested and Facing Trial

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yao Jianping, 54, was arrested from her home and has been detained in Qilipu Detention Centre for over three months. Her health has deteriorated due to the mistreatment she is suffering in the detention centre. Her family have asked to visit her several times but have yet to be allowed to see her. There is a rumour that Ms. Yao will be put on trial, so her family has hired a lawyer to defend her innocence.
  • Mr. Wang Fengqi from Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province Passes Away After Police Harassment and Home Ransacking

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Fengqi, 60, is the father of Mr. Wang Xinchun, who lost his legs in 2001 due to the persecution. Police ransacked Mr. Wang Fengqi's home. Terribly frightened, Mr. Wang suddenly lost his ability to speak or move, and passed away less than a month later on December 22nd, 2011. Mr. Wang Fengqi had been threatened, arrested, interrogated and detained repeatedly for practising Falun Gong.
  • Ms. Zheng Muzhi from Helong City, Jilin Province, Sentenced to Four and a Half Years in Prison

    On January 4th, 2011, police officers arrested Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zheng Muzhi outside of the building where her elder brother lives. Later, she was sentenced by the Helong Court to four and a half years in prison. She is currently incarcerated in Changchun Prison. Previously, while in Heizuizi Women's Forced Labour Camp, Ms. Zheng refused to cooperate with the officials, so they tied her to the "death bed" for eight days.
  • Chengdu Teacher in Critical Condition after Nearly 30 Days of Hunger Strike Protesting Unfair Arrest

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Hui is a former teacher who went missing in mid-December 2011. After inquiring for information through many avenues, in January 2012, her family learned that Ms. Liu had been arrested at home on December 14th. To this day, Ms. Liu's family has received no notification, nor has anyone assumed responsibility for Ms. Liu's arrest. It has been confirmed that Ms. Liu started a hunger strike on the second day of her arrest. Nearly 30 days have passed and she is in critical condition.
  • Ms. Wang Meiying and Mr. Zhao Fuqiang from Tianshui City, Gansu Province, Detained Over Five Months

    Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Wang Meiying, in her sixties, and Mr. Zhao Fuqiang, about 50, went to Wuying Town in Qin'an County on the evening of August 10th, 2011 to distribute materials explaining the facts about Falun Gong. Villagers who did not understand the truth blocked them and took them to the local police station. Ms. Wang and Mr. Zhao were later taken to the Qin'an County Detention Centre. They were recently transferred to an unknown location.
  • Chen Xuzhong from Jinchang City Gansu Province Arrested Again after Twice Being Persecuted in Forced Labour Camps

    Police arrested Falun Gong practitioner Chen Xuzhong at work on November 15th, 2011. This was the third time he has been arrested after serving five years of forced labour. In Gansu Provincial First Forced Labour Camp food was very poor and barely enough, while the workload was huge. There were no breaks during the day. After one day of slave labour, practitioners could hardly stand up up straight. In the harvest season they had to leave for work at 6:30 a.m. and didn't finish until 9:00 p.m., 13 or 14 hours.
  • Ms. Jia Guilan, 69, Tortured at Heilongjiang Women's Prison

    Sixty-nine-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Jia Guilan was arrested for her belief in April 2009. While detained in Ward 9 of the Heilongjiang Women's Prison, she was subjected to extremely inhumane torture. The guards assigned criminal inmates to closely monitor Ms. Jia around the clock. Their job was to force Ms. Jia to sit on a small plastic stool daily, from 5:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Her back had to be straight, hands on knees, and her legs had to form a 90-degree angle. She had to remain in this posture for 17 hours straight. The inmates brought her meals, so she did not have any chance move. The stool she sat on had a rough texture. After a long time of sitting, her buttocks became badly bruised, the skin was broken, and blood soaked her trousers.
  • After Being Detained in Forced Labour Camp for One Year, Mr. Xia Dong and His Wife Are Sentenced to Forced Labor and Held in Detention Centres

    Ms. Yan Xiaoyue and her husband Xia Dong were arrested by officers from the Jiulongpo 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), on August 11th, and in November 2010, respectively. The couple was sent to forced labour camps for one-year terms. Mr. Xia was detained in the Xishanping Forced Labour Camp, while his wife Ms. Yan was held in the Shimahe Forced Labour Camp. Recently, when their terms had supposedly ended, the couple was transferred from the forced labour camps back to the Huayan Detention Centre.
