Falun Dafa practitioner Xiao Chengrui, a 52 year old man, and a former worker at Chongqing City Textile Factory, was kidnapped by police while clarifying the truth of Falun Gong in the Xiaoquan Hotel on January 2, 2002. He was later sent to Jiangbei Detention Centre and brutally tortured. In early July, police sent him home because he was on the verge of death. Xiao Chengrui passed away on July 17, 2002.

Xiao Chengrui lived in Chongqing City. In October 2001, the local police kidnapped him while he was distributing truth clarification flyers. He revealed the facts about the persecution to the police officers and walked out of the police station on the same afternoon in an open and dignified manner. Later, he was forced to leave home and go from place to place in order to avoid illegal arrest.

On January 2, 2002, Xiao Chengrui went to the Xiaoquan Hotel to distribute truth- clarification flyers. He was arrested and detained in the Jiangbei District Detention Centre. The vicious police brutally tortured him until he was nothing more than skin and bones. During this time, the police forced him to take medications and injections, but Xiao Chengrui's health declined day by day. He did not know at all what medications and injections were given to him. Upon seeing that Xiao Chengrui was indeed going to die, the police notified his family to take him home. He was very healthy before and now he was on the verge of death. Two days later in early July, officials from the detention centre sent him home in a car. All efforts to save him failed. Xiao Chengrui passed away on July 17, 2002. A healthy man in the prime of his life was thus tortured and deprived of his life in a period of seven months.
