Practitioner Ms. Kang Miqiao from Dezhou City, Shandong Province, was retired from the First Cotton Mill. She was over 60 years old. After she started practising Falun Gong, she benefited both mentally and physically. During the persecution of Falun Gong in the past decade by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Ms. Kang Miqiao suffered arrests, extortion, and repeated imprisonment. Due to the persecution, she became paralysed and couldn't take care of herself. Ms. Kang died on May 2nd, 2011.

Ms. Kang began practising Falun Gong in 1997. Before she started to practise, she had heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. After she started practising, she followed the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to guide her daily conduct and to be a good person. Her illnesses disappeared and her life became fulfilling.

In 1999, the CCP began its persecution of Falun Gong. On July 20th, 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was arrested. She was taken back to Dezhou City and held in a guesthouse for three days. The police ordered her to give up Falun Gong, write a guarantee statement to renounce practising Falun Gong, and pay for all transportation costs and living expenses.

In March 2000, Ms. Kang went to Tiananmen Square to appeal again. She was arrested and taken to the Dezhou Liaison Office in Beijing. She was then taken back to Dezhou and held in the Dezhou Detention Centre for one month. The Dezhou Public Security Branch Bureau extorted 8,000 yuan1 from her for transportation and living expenses, causing a great financial burden for her and her family. During this time, her daughter and son were forced to take time off from work to look for their mother.

In 2006, Ms. Kang was arrested when she was distributing informational materials about Falun Gong and was taken to the Hexi Police Station. The police beat her and held her in a detention centre. The Hexi Police Station conspired with the State Security Bureau to send Ms. Kang to the Jinan Women's Forced Labour Camp to serve three years. She was brutally abused. As a result, she suffered a severe stroke, and half of her body was paralysed. The forced labour camp called her family to take her to a hospital for emergency treatment. Later, she suffered from a cerebral haemorrhage and could no longer take care of herself. Ms. Kang Miqiao died on May 2nd, 2011.

Due to the persecution, Ms. Kang and her family endured great physical pain and mental harm.
