Ms. Liang Yuying, a Falun Gong practitioner in her sixties, was detained at Xinxiang Women's Prison for over one year. She became very weak due to the torture she suffered in prison. Ms. Liang was previously tortured for three years at the same prison, from 2005 to 2008. She was placed in solitary confinement for three months, during which time she was tortured by Hou Meili and other directors. She was tied to a chair, and then guards stuffed her mouth so that she couldn't make a sound. They then blocked her nose, preventing her from breathing.

After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began persecuting Falun Gong in July 1999, Liang Yuying was arrested, then taken on multiple occasions to a brainwashing facility, detention centre, forced labour camp, and prison. Her husband, in his seventies, was placed under great stress during her imprisonment. As a result, he suffered a stroke and was hospitalised.

Liang Yuying was explaining the facts about Falun Gong to a young couple near Mazhuang Village in Shiyan, Xinye County on the morning of November 25th, 2009. Consequently, she was arrested by officers from the Shiyan Police Station and taken to the Xinye County Detention Centre. She was sentenced to three years and six months in prison by the Xinye Court in October 2010.

Ms. Liang resisted the “transformation” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] process at Xinxiang Women's Prison. As a result, she was placed in solitary confinement for three months. She was subjected daily to beatings, verbal abuse, and was forced to stand for extended periods by inmates who were incited by guards. She was often handcuffed from behind. Ms. Liang shouted “Falun Gong is good,” but two inmates pushed her down and choked her so that she couldn't speak. She was force-fed after going on a hunger strike to protest the persecution.

In February 2011, Ms. Liang became extremely weak due to the torture, and was transferred from solitary confinement to the prison hospital. Soon after, she was released and placed back into solitary confinement.

The Ninth Division of Xinxiang Women's Prison is specifically designated as a site for torturing Falun Gong practitioners, and is the location where practitioners are subjected to brainwashing. If they refuse to give up their belief, guards incite inmates to beat them, or they're placed in solitary confinement.

Meanwhile, guards attempt to deceive practitioners by promising that if they agree to “transformation”, their terms will be shortened by six or more months. However, the facts indicate that practitioners' prison terms have never been shortened. Even after some practitioners were “transformed”, they are still subjected to multiple brainwashing sessions. Furthermore, they are required to repeat the Communist Party oath in front of the flag on a frequent basis.

Prison personnel involved in the persecution:

Li Huarong, chief
Xiong Xiuying, instructor
Tong Guorong, Li Wan, Zhao Guo, directors
Feng Yan, Cui Shufang, Zhang Xianqin, team leaders
Wang Xinli, team leader, third division
Yuan Wenjuan, guard
