Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Hu Yunqi, from Jingyu County, Jilin Province, died on April 18th at the age of 44, from years of persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). After his death, the local police refused to issue a cremation permit. The local police then joined forces with the local 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) in an attempt to arrest Mr. Hu Yunqi's two brothers, who attended the funeral. Relatives and friends who attended the funeral severely criticised the police officers for their complete lack of conscience, thus the two brothers were able to escape being arrested.

Mr. Hu Yunqi was born on July 17th, 1965 and lived in Sanhe Village, Jingyu County. He began practising Falun Gong in November 1996. After he started practising, his physical and mental health improved. After the CCP started its persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, countless Falun Gong practitioners have suffered from the unprecedented, vicious persecution.

In November 2000, Mr. Hu Yunqi went to Beijing and shouted, “Falun Gong is good” to express his opinion about Dafa. He was arrested and severely tortured. Prison guards poured cold water on him and then opened windows to let the cold air in. He was so cold that he lost feeling in his legs and had difficulty walking. Afterward, the local 610 Office personnel brought him back from Beijing and detained him in the Baishan City Forced Labour Camp for one year.

Mr. Hu Yunqi was taken to the Chaoyanggou Labour Camp in Changchun City at the end of November 2001. Meanwhile, local police colluded with the Jingyu County 610 Office personnel to ransack his home. They also took away his two brothers' ID cards, and cancelled their registered permanent residences.

In May 2002, after he was released from the labour camp, local police continued to harass Mr. Hu Yunqi until he was forced to leave home to avoid persecution. He found a job in Changchun City and rented a place in Fenshuitun, Shuangde Township in Changchun City. On March 2nd, 2004, when government personnel came to collect the personnel security management fees, they saw a Falun Gong poster on the top of a box. The following evening, police from the Nanhu Police Station came and ransacked his place and took away his Falun Gong books, and other materials. He was taken to the Nanhu Police Station, and later that evening he was taken to the Changchun City Public Security Bureau.

Thus, Mr. Hu Yunqi again was imprisoned in the Chaoyanggou Forced Labour Camp for two years. When he was released in March 2006, he was so weak as a result of the persecution that he suffered from all kinds of illness and could hardly work.

As the shadow of terror still hung over him and with the fear of being persecuted, Mr. Hu suffered huge mental stress, causing his health to further decline. Since the police had cancelled his registered permanent residence, he had no place to legitimately live after the 2010 census. His health became worse, and he lost his ability to work. Mr. Hu Yunqui passed away on April 18th, 2011.
