Since July 20th, 1999, when the Chinese Communist Party started to persecute Falun Gong, practitioners in Mianyang City have been gruesomely ill-treated and persecuted. The following is what three practitioners from Mianyang City had to endure.

Ms. Yang Min

Ms. Yang Min is a teacher at Huoju Middle School in the Gaoxin District of Mianyang City. She was appreciated by students and parents because of her honest moral values.

Ms. Yang used to suffer from many illnesses, such as anaemia, dizziness, Ménière's disease, and pneumonia, and she couldn't touch cold water in the winter. Because of her condition, she had a very bad temper. She started to practise Falun Gong in 1997 and followed the principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to become a good person. All her illnesses disappeared and her temper improved.

In November 2000, Liu Shijie, Wang Yong, and several other police officers from the domestic security division seized Ms. Yang and took her to the Pumin Police Station. They took off her clothes and shoes and tied her to a tree for a whole night. At that time, her child was only a baby. Later, Ms. Yang was sentenced to forced labour for one year and detained at the Nanmusi Women's Detention Centre in Sichuan Province. After she was released, her wages were reduced and they deducted more than 3000 yuan from her account.

In May 2005, more than 10 police officers and others went to Ms. Yang's home and tried to arrest her, but they failed because she refused to open the door.

Ms. Yang was detained for two weeks in 2006 and had to stay away home for two months in order to avoid being arrested. Officials at her school didn't assign her any work, told her to stay in the doorman's room, and instructed the doorman to watch her.

In November 2007, policeman Hu Qingyan, from the Domestic Security Team, along with principal Li, searched Ms. Yang's bag. She was lucky and escaped but couldn't go back home. Since her husband was working out of town, her son, who was in high school, was on his own. He had to stay at a neighbour's home for the weekend.

Ms. Feng Biqiong died

Ms. Feng Biqiong's husband was employed at the Mianyang Auto Factory. After her husband died, she had no income and had to depend on her son. Ms. Feng had many illnesses, but they all disappeared after she practised Falun Gong. During more than ten years of persecution, Ms. Feng was detained many times.

In July 2000, she was detained in a brainwashing facility set up by officials from the Mianyang Auto Factory. The director of the factory, Li Wenbin, and the chief of the security section, Zhang Shuxiang, participated. In the winter of 2000, Ms. Feng went to Beijing to appeal twice and was detained for a month total.

Ms. Feng went to the neighbouring county in 2005 to distribute leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. She was harassed by Santai County police. To avoid being arrested, she had to leave home. In July 2005, she was taken to the Longsheng Brainwashing Centre in Qingyi Town by officers from the Domestic Security Bureau and Puming Police Station in the Gaoxin District.

Ms. Feng was arrested by policemen Liu Shijie and Hu Qingyang in December 2007 and taken to the Mianyang City Detention Centre. The police ordered her son to write a guarantee statement to renounce practising Falun Gong on her behalf, otherwise they wouldn't let him bail her out. They even extorted money from him. In 2008, she was forced to leave home because the local court tried to bring her to trial and sentence her. Living a homeless life for several years, her illnesses returned. After becoming paralysed and bedridden for more than a year, she died in August 2010.

Ms. Fu Ping Died

Ms. Fu Ping was born in 1964. She also lived in the Gaoxin District. When she was young, she had many illness, like diabetes, tuberculosis, anaemia, dizziness, etc. In 1997, she saw people practising Falun Gong at a railway station, followed them, and started to read Zhuan Falun. She became a good person and behaved according to Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

On November 26th, 2000, when she was distributing materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong, she was picked up and taken to the Puming Police Station by Liu Xiaodong, Wang Yonghuo, and other officers under the direction of Liu Shijie, head of the Gaoxin District Domestic Security Team. They ripped off her winter clothes and shoes, then tied her to a tree overnight. The next day, she was taken to Mianyang City No.2 Detention Centre. In order to force her to give up her belief, policemen tied her onto the death bed1 for more than ten days. Three months later, she was taken to Nanmusi Forced Labour Camp in Sichuan Province, where she was detained for one and a half years.

After being released from the labour camp, Ms. Fu opened a small restaurant in the Gaoxin District. In order to let more people learn the truth, she played a video exposing the persecution to her customers. In May 2004, security team head Liu Shijie officers Wang Yong and others from the Puming Police Station to search her home and restaurant. Ms. Fu and her husband firmly resisted, but Ms. Fu was forced to stay away home for more than two months in order to avoid an arrest.

During the Communist Party's two conferences in February 2005, Wang Xuebin, head of the Puming No.2 Security Team, and village officials went to Ms. Fu's restaurant to have dinner and stayed there until midnight. They were actually monitoring her.

Because of the long-term harassment, Ms. Fu couldn't run her restaurant successfully and she had to close it. Without an income, her life was very tough. She couldn't do the exercises or study the Falun Gong teachings. Her old illness returned and she died in 2008 at the age of 44. Her two children survive her.

Note

1. "Death Bed" torture: A practitioner is tied to a bed with his hands handcuffed above his head to the bed rails, and his legs tied with thin nylon ropes. The rope is then tightly wrapped around the practitioner's body and the bed, from his legs to his chest. The rope is wrapped so tightly that the practitioner has difficulty breathing and eventually loses consciousness.
