Mr. Du Jianxin and Ms. Wang Fan used to work at Longkou Base of the Ocean Liner Company in Longkou, Shengli Oilfield, Shandong Province. They benefited greatly after they started practising Falun Gong. In July 1999, the young couple were physically, mentally and financially persecuted by members of the Chinese Communist Party. They were detained, sentenced to forced labour camps, extorted for money, and also suffered from wage deduction, demotion, and were eventually fired from their jobs. Currently, Ms. Wang Fan's detention in Wangcun Women's Forced Labour Camp has been extended for another three years. Mr. Du Jianxin was arrested in January 2011 by police from the National Security Team in Shouguang and was brutally tortured.

Ms. Wang Fan started to practise Falun Gong in April 1996. Before practising Falun Gong, Ms. Wang Fan used to suffer from bronchitis in the winter. She became healthy after she started practising.

On July 20th, 1999, under pressure from the Chinese Communist Party, their company started to widely persecute Falun Gong practitioners. At that time, Mr. Du Jianxin was studying in Qingdao, and was forcibly taken back to the company and lost the opportunity to take a certification exam, causing him to forfeit the 9,000 yuan1 exam fee. Ms. Wang Fan and Hu Bo went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. The former secretary in the Third Team, Liu Zongsen, and the former secretary of the First Team utilised and threatened their parents, deceiving them into visiting the Oilfield Liaison Office in Beijing. The two secretaries cooperated with the police to try to brainwash all three practitioners day and night, forcing them to write a statement to denounce Falun Gong. Hu Bo and Du Jianxin were detained in the office for several weeks.

One evening in early September 1999, former Party directors Zhang Faqing and Liu Zongsen, forcibly took Ms. Wang Fan from her home to the company hotel, where they detained her for over one month. She was only released after the national holidays in October. The door there had three locks, and she was only allowed to go out for meals and using the restroom. Afterwards, Wang Fan extorted 600 yuan from her for the cost of meals.

At the end of October, Mr. Du and his wife asked their company if they could go to visit their parents. However, that evening, Liu Zongsen and another team leader broke into their home without giving any reason, and forcibly took them back to their company. Ms. Wang asked to stay in her department's office, but was watched over during the day. This surveillance lasted for over a month. Later on, Mr. Du was transferred from the position of a crewman to the sanitation team. He still had the same work load, but he was only paid about 300 yuan a month, which was about the same amount as a laid off worker.

In January 2000, Mr. Du and his wife handed in a statement to their company, stating that anything they did under detention that was not in line with Dafa was void. That same day, they were held in custody again. Zhang Faqing, Li Wenshui, and Liu Zongsen detained Ms. Wang in an abandoned shack. It was so cold there that snow accumulated and did not melt, even inside the shack. At that time, Ms. Wang was pregnant, but people in the Communist Party office of their company still kept her in custody. Ms. Wang went on a hunger strike for four days, and was then transferred to another room without heating. She was sent to the Sanitation Team during the day, and was sent back to the hotel at night. This went on until May 2000.

At the end of 2000, the former secretary of the communist party in the company threatened Mr. Du and his wife, saying that they would be sent to a brainwashing centre. He also tried to extort 5,000 yuan, calling it a “study fee.” The two were forced to become homeless for over a month in order to avoid further persecution. In February 2001, Li Guolin, together with the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), forcibly sent Mr. Du to Wangcun Forced Labour Camp in Zibo for about 20 days. After he got back, he was detained in Xiadingjia Brainwashing Centre in Longkou for another two months. They also forced Ms. Wang to leave her mother's house.

The next day, Zhang Faqing sent several people to Ms. Wang's home. They broke the lock and entered. One policewoman grabbed the crying baby from Ms. Wang's arms, and two policemen then dragged her out to a car. Ms. Wang and her baby were held in the brainwashing centre. Ms. Wang was subjected to brainwashing day and night, and was not allowed to sleep for three days. Several days later, secretary Li Guolin sent her nine-month-old baby to their grandparents' home in Guangrao. The baby was forcibly weaned, which made him cry all night long. Ms. Wang was detained there for about three months.

On June 5th, 2002, Ms. Wang was sentenced to over three years and six months by the Hexi District Court in Tianjin. She was one of the practitioners who was persecuted the most severely. On February 24th, 2005, Ms. Wang was released, and went back to the home of her parents-in-law in Malou Village, Daozhuang Town, Guangrao County.

On July 20th, 2008, Ms. Wang was arrested and taken to Shengcai Brainwashing Centre by the National Security Team of the Public Security Team in Guangrao County, and the Daozhuang Town Police Station. Ms. Wang went on a hunger strike in the brainwashing centre, but was beaten up by officers from the 610 Office of Shengli Oilfield. On December 25th, after being persecuted there for over five months, Ms. Wang was transferred to Wangcun No.2 Women's Forced Labour Camp in Shandong by police from the Haibin Police Branch. She was held there for three years. Policemen there frequently forced her to stand for long hours. The longest time was 17 days and nights, which caused great injury to Ms. Wang's body. Her feet and legs were swollen, and her heart was seriously damaged. She also had constipation, cervical pain and numb toes. Many parts of her body were very fatigued. Even under these conditions, Ms. Wang was still forced to work an overloaded schedule, about 17 hours a day, sometimes even overnight. A witness revealed that Ms. Wang was once shackled and force-fed by several policemen. When her term ended, it was extended for another three years.

On January 5th, 2011, Mr. Du was arrested and taken to Shouguang Brainwashing Centre. While there, his hands and feet were cuffed onto an iron chair. Later on, he was transferred to Shouguang Detention Centre.
