Ms. Zhang Jing, a practitioner in Hanzhong City in Shaanxi Province, was sent to a forced labour camp more than one year ago, and her family has not been allowed to visit her even once. When Ms. Zhang's father passed away in November 2010, her mother called the labour camp, asking if Ms. Zhang could go home for a visit. Labour camp officials refused to grant permission. Ms. Zhang's son travelled to the camp, hoping the camp officials would allow his mother to attend the funeral. The camp officials not only turned down his request, but they also prohibited the mother and son from meeting.

Ms. Zhang went to see practitioner Liu Wei on September 25th, 2009. Ma Ping'an and other agents from the Hantai District Domestic Security Division arrested three practitioners, including Ms. Zhang and Liu Wei, and took them to a brainwashing centre. Ms. Zhang refused to give up her practice at the brainwashing centre and was sentenced to a term in a forced labour camp term of one and a half years. She was then sent to the Shaanxi Province Women's Labour Camp.

At the labour camp, guards instigated inmates to brutally torture Ms. Zhang. One of her thumbs was broken and twisted 180 degrees. Even after all this time, she still cannot move her hand. In the past more than one year, no one has been allowed to visit her.

After Ms. Zhang was detained, both her husband and younger brother (neither of them is a practitioner) went to the domestic security division to ask for her release. The officials threatened them and slandered Ms. Zhang as well as her family. Out of anger and frustration, her husband shouted at Ms. Zhang's mother and left home. Ms. Zhang's mother was frightened and, with her old illnesses recurring, became bedridden. Due to sequelae of cerebral infarction, Ms. Zhang’s father was unable to take care of himself. Things were very difficult for her family.

Ms. Zhang’s father passed away on November 11th. The labour officials refused to allow her to go home to attend her father's funeral. Throughout her entire detention, Ms. Zhang has not been allowed to see her family even once.

Ms. Zhang is detained in Division 2 of the Shaanxi Province Women Labour Camp.
