67-Year-Old Ms. Yue Chunpu of Tangshan City Dies After Repeated Persecution

Ms. Yue Chunpu was a 67-year-old Falun Gong practitioner in Tangshan City, Hebei Province. She died on December 1st after suffering arrest, imprisonment, brainwashing, and torture on many occasions.

She was first arrested and held for 24 hours after appealing for the right to practise Falun Gong in Beijing in July 1999.

She was detained for appealing in Beijing again in July 2000 at the Fengnan Secondary Detention Centre for two months.

In January 2001, she was held for two months at a brainwashing facility inside Tangshan City Textile University. The agents extorted 1,500 yuan1 per month from her in the name of a boarding fee.

On July 8th, 2008, officers from the Wenbei Police Station arrested her and ransacked her home. On July 9th, she was taken to the Tangshan City First Detention Centre where she was held for more than eight months. To protest her arrest, she refused to work as a forced labourer. The guards punished her and monitored her for four and a half hours each night from 1:30 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. for two months.

She was sentenced to three years in prison in April 2009, and was held in Hebei Province Women's Prison. Because of her deteriorating health condition, she was released on bail for medical treatment.

On December 1st, 2010, Ms. Yue died at the age of sixty-seven.
