Ms. He Xianzhen Seriously Ill After Arrest

Ms. He Xianzhen became seriously ill while held at the Xichang City Detention Centre. She was then sent to Xichang City Hospital. According to sources from inside China, the Domestic Security Division demanded that her family pay the medical expenses before releasing her on bail.

In the past, Ms. He Xianzhen had suffered a variety of illnesses that all disappeared after she started practising Falun Gong. In order to let others know about the goodness of Falun Gong, she often spoke to people and distributed information about Falun Gong and the persecution. For this, on September 23rd, 2009, she was arrested and sent to the Xichang City Detention Centre.

The Domestic Security Division charged her three times, all of which were rejected for failure of proof by the Xichang Procuratorate.

Upon being charged a fourth time, a Xichang City Court tried Ms. He Xianzhen and three other practitioners on May 13th, 2010. In order to frame the practitioners and exaggerate the case, the prosecutor came up with a list of more than 10,000 items of evidence. Every page of the Falun Gong books and materials were counted as separate items. The practitioners' lawyer asked that the evidence be presented in court and summoned the accuser to testify. The judge denied both requests. The lawyer maintained that there was insufficient evidence to base a conviction. The lawyer also pointed out that it is not a crime to practise Falun Gong or hand out informational materials. In support of this contention, the lawyer read some related regulations which state that a citizen may offer suggestions, make complaints, or report situations to the leadership of the Party without reprisals against the said citizen. At that moment, Chen Qi, the deputy director of the City 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), yelled at the lawyer, "Get out!"

In the courtroom, He Xianzhen brought out the fact that Tai Gangyi, the deputy director of the Domestic Security Division, beat her during an interrogation, causing injuries. The police from the Domestic Security Division also took 5,600 yuan¹ during the search of her home. Considering her pension is only 200 yuan every month, it was not easy for her to save this much money. Finally, she testified that the police gave her no documentation regarding this confiscation.
