In the past five years, the West Open Mine "610 Office" (1) head held many brainwashing classes, and arrested many Falun Dafa practitioners employed by the West Open Mine, located in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous District. The ongoing persecution has resulted in the deaths of many practitioners.

Ms. Sun Shuzhen, 62 years old, was the wife of a mine employee. She formerly had breast cancer and had undergone surgery to treat it. Then she started practising Falun Dafa and became very healthy for five years. When the suppression of Falun Dafa started in 1999, the local 610 Office and the police kept harassing her, extorted money from her, and forced her to attend a brainwashing class, which damaged her both mentally and physically. Ms. Sun died of bone cancer in May 2004.

Mr. Yang Junlian, 64, was a retired employee of the West Open Mine. After he started practising Falun Dafa in 1996, he was harassed and threatened by the local 610 Office and the police. He suffered severely in both mind and body and died of pneumonia in August 2004.

Mr. Wang Yuhe was 73 years old and a retired employee of the mine. He was harassed many times and threatened by the local 610 Office and the police. Injured both mentally and physically, Mr. Wang died of heart disease in August 2004.

Mr. Yang Junqiang, 68, was a retired employee of the mine. He was harassed and threatened by the local 610 Office and the police for cultivating Falun Dafa. His mind and body were both severely affected, and he died of lung cancer in August 2004.

Mr. Shi Yonglu, 67 years old, was a retired employee of the West Open Mine. He and his wife both were practitioners. Because his wife went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa, she was sent to a forced labour camp. Local police and the Neighbourhood Administration kept harassing them at home. Mr. Shi could not bear the mental stress and died on November 14, 2003.

Mr. Yang Yongchun, 67 years old, was a retired employee of the mine. He and his wife both were practitioners. His wife was detained many times and sent to brainwashing classes. Mr. Yang could not bear the emotional stress any longer and died on March 23, 2003.

Ms. Liu Suzhen, 77, was a practitioner from Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous District. Her daughter, also a practitioner, was abused frequently by the authorities. Ms. Liu became very depressed and worried. She died on June 26, 2003.

Practitioner Mr. Zhao Zhenqing, 72 years old and a retired government official, lived in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous District. He started cultivating Falun Dafa right before the persecution started in July 1999. When the persecution started, he gave up the practice because he had been politically persecuted so many times in his life. His daughter, also a practitioner, went to Beijing to appeal and was sent to a forced labour camp. After being released, she was often harassed and was sent to a brainwashing class. Mr. Zhao was terrified for her. He died on August 13, 2003.
