Practitioners Mr. Hao Shouzhong and his wife Ms. Chen Ruixue were from Weifang City, Shandong Province. They started to practise Falun Gong in September 1997, and they became healthy physically and emotionally. After July 20, 1999, they were both harassed frequently and persecuted. Mr. Hao died on December 22, 2002, and Ms Chen died on February 20, 2004.

Ms. Chen was 70 and her husband Mr. Hao was 83. He was a retired worker. After July 20, 1999, Jiang Zemin's regime started to persecute Falun Gong. Ms. Chen firmly believed in Falun Dafa and went to Beijing to appeal several times. The police held her at the detention centre every time she went there.

Over the past few years, the officials from the "610 Office" (1) and the police extorted more than 8,500 yuan (2) from her family. They often harassed her and her husband and ransacked their home. When the so-called sensitive dates approached, the police came to interfere with their lives and monitored them very closely. Under this extreme pressure, Mr. Hao suffered tremendously both in body and mind, and his health deteriorated. After July 2002, his physical condition worsened and he gradually became paralysed.

Ms. Chen suffered as much as Mr. Hao. In addition to that, she had to take care of him. She died on December 22, 2002.

Mr. Hao's health worsened after the death of his wife, and he died on February 20, 2004.

Note:

(1) "The 610 office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.

(2) "Yuan" is the Chinese currency; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.
