During the 59th United Nation Commission on Human Rights, Falun gong practitioners from Ruhr and other areas in Germany went to Geneva to urgently appeal for their friend, Lin Wenrong, who was recently imprisoned in China because she practises Falun Gong. Three of them were interviewed by the media in front of the United Nation Building in Geneva.

Madam Yan: “I am a Taiwanese citizen living in Germany. I am acquainted with Lin Wenrong and I know that she is a friendly person and is always happy to help others. We know that she was placed under house arrest in China and does not have the freedom to contact people outside. We sincerely hope that she can return to Germany as soon as possible and continue her studies.”

“She planned to fly back to Germany on the 17 February. We only found out that she had been arrested on the 29 January when a friend of hers phoned her home in China after she failed to return [to Germany] at the scheduled time. This should never have happened to her because she is such kind person. I feel I have to say something to stop such wrongdoing occurring. We contacted the Mayor of a German town that is Wuhan’s sister city. Wuhan is Lin Wenrong’s hometown. The Mayor wrote to the Foreign Minister of Germany immediately, asking for assistance in rescuing her. The Foreign Affairs Committee of Dusseldorf, where Lin Wenrong used to live, also wrote to the Chinese Embassy in Germany to raise this issue with them.”

Andolias: “I am from Bonn, Germany. The first time I met Lin Wenrong was in Cologne and I later met her again in Bonn. I have the impression that she is a kind lady, who always has a smile on her face. I was shocked to learn that she was arrested in China. I cannot believe what has happened to her. I know that she planned to come back and continue to study German here. I am very concerned, and have to ask for help from politicians. Many people have signed the petition [for her release]. I have also emailed members of congress and asked for help to try and bring about Lin Wenrong’s release.”

“Lin Wenrong is one of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners facing the threat of death every day in China. I came to Geneva to make an appeal to rescue all the persecuted Falun Gong practitioners in China. Lin Wenrong is one of them who I know personally. There are many people, who I don’t know in person, but are also suffering from persecution in China.”

Another friend of Lin Wenrong who is from Russia, said: “I am from Russia and study at Essen University. Essen is not far from Dusseldorf, where Lin Wenrong used to live. We participated in some activities together and I know she is a good person at heart. I feel a good person should not have been sent to a labour camp. We are trying to do our best to rescue her, and hope she will be released soon. A kind person deserves to live in freedom.
