From 6pm to 7pm on the evening of 27 February, five Falun Gong practitioners attended the first Falun Gong programme broadcast from a radio station founded by students of a university in northern England.

In the one-hour programme, the presenter introduced Falun Gong and the persecution occurring in China. A PhD at Manchester University (UMIST) was invited to talk on the show. His fiancée has been imprisoned in Beijing because she practises Falun Gong. When the students heard the news, they all felt astonished. They could not believe that these kinds of things are still occurring in the world today. The students who were in charge of the media broadcasting in the university offered a lot of technical support. At the same time, affected by the content broadcast in the programme, they agreed to broadcast the programme for one hour a week. Even though it was the first broadcast, the response to the Falun Gong programme was favourable and built a very good relationship with the students.
