Mr. Ma Zifu and His Wife from Songyuan City, Jilin Province, Covertly Sentenced to Lengthy Prison Terms

Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Ma Zifu and his wife, Ms. Hua Yuru, from Songyuan City, Jilin Province, were covertly sentenced to ten years and eleven years in prison, respectively.

Ms. Hua was arrested on January 29th, 2010, by officers from the Jinzhou City Domestic Security Division. Her husband, Mr. Ma, was arrested on October 26th, 2010, by officers from the city police department and Guta Police Department. The couple was held in the Jinzhou City Detention Centre for a month before they were taken to the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp.

On March 24th, 2011, Songyuan Police Department officers transferred the couple from the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp to the Songyuan Detention Centre and submitted their cases to the Songyuan Court and Procuratorate. Ms. Hua was given an 11-year prison term, and Mr. Ma, a ten-year prison term. The entire proceedings were conducted covertly and without informing their families.

Prior to October 1st, Ms. Hua was sent to Changchun Women's Prison and Mr. Ma to Gongzhuling Prison.
