Mr. Gu Huaibing works in one of the companies in Chengdu Computer Building. On the evening of July 21st, 2009, he was arrested by officers from Tiaosanta Police Station while he was working. He was detained the next day.

On August 5th and 6th, the director of the Domestic Security Division refused to allow Mr. Gu's lawyer to meet with Gu. His two lawyers went to complain about the director to the Chengdu Procuratorate.

Meanwhile, around 10 of Mr. Gu's relatives and friends went to demand his release.

As a result of the complaints and the appeal, by the end of August, Mr. Gu's lawyer finally met with him for the first time, under the watchful eye of Xie Hongqing.

Just recently in a private conversation, Mr. Gu told his lawyer he was being severely persecuted. He described to his lawyer how two weeks following his arrest, on August 4th, he and Liao Jianfu were taken to a location somewhere in Cuqiao. He was detained behind a building, while Liao was in the front.

The first day there, Mr. Gu was tied to a metal window. The "investigating officer" poured water on him and jabbed him with a stick to keep him awake. The second day, Mr. Gu was tied to the window again and punched in the chest. He was told that the beating was "compliments of" the national dictatorship department. The whole process lasted four days, from August 4th through August 7th, 2009. His lawyer came on two of the days, but was turned away.

Mr. Gu said that they were to extract a confession by means of torture, because they don't usually beat people in a detention centre. All of his so-called "confessions" were because of torture.

Wang Pengfei and Wang Li, the so-called "investigating officers" who persecuted Gu, also tortured Ms. Zhong Fangqiong and other Falun Gong practitioners. From Ms. Zhong and others' statements in court, Wang Pengfei, Yuan Maojie, Wan Li, and others from Wuhou Domestic Security Division tried brainwashing her for seven months. (Ms. Zhong Fangqiong was sent to Jinhua Brainwashing Centre in the Yuanyuan Hotel, 66 Caojin Street.) She was knocked out twice because they stabbed her in the back and legs. They also punched her in the face. They also spread hot, stinging medicine on her face, including her eyelids, temples, lips, and nostrils, making her face disfigured. They also humiliated her. Ms. Zhong Fangqiong sued Wang Pengfei, Wan Li, and others at the Wuhu Procuratorate in December 2007. However, these suites have been ignored, and those charged continue to persecute others.

Practitioners Zhao Haiping, Liao Jianfu, Wang Hongbo, and Zhou Yaping were arrested at the same time as Mr. Gu. Liao Jianfu from Panzhihua had been persecuted for 8 years and was just released in December 2008. Zhou Yaping was just released a month ago from Xinjin Brainwashing Centre. Wang Jianguo and Li Xiaoyan, who are a couple and worked in the same company, were arrested in mid September. Recently, these seven practitioners' "cases" were transferred back to the Wuhou Procuratorate.
