Ms. Xin Shuhua from Benxi City was detained three times at the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Shenyang City. Officials, guards and others beat and tortured her almost constantly during her second incarceration, from late 2004 to early 2007.

A labour camp guard once asked her, "Don't you practise Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance? Donate your heart now to save other people!" Ms. Xin said, "I need to continue living, so that I can practise Falun Gong." The guard said, "You have no choice. We are sending you to a hospital now." They called a hospital in Shenyang City and tried to ask the hospital staff to pick her up. The hospital never sent anyone.

Another time, Ms. Xin was hung up for a long time. Her tongue protruded and her mouth filled with foam. She became unconscious but regained consciousness when taken down. Once, she lost a few teeth from a beating and guards broke her tailbone when they kicked her. Several individuals dragged Ms. Xin to walk on the grounds in the freezing winter weather in Shenyang City. They had first removed all of her clothing except her undergarments.

Ms. Xin explained the facts to people about Falun Gong and the persecution in 2003. Officials arrested and sent her to the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp, where she was tortured for three years. She did not give up her belief, nor did she write statements to slander Falun Gong or participate in physical labour. Moreover, she went on a persecution-protest hunger strike. Camp guards shocked her many times. The electric batons eventually no longer worked. Officials then tortured her with the methods "big hang up" and "dead man's bed1." The persecutors also kept her in an isolated cell, where she was unable to stand or squat. Other torture methods Ms. Xin was subjected to included: forcible opening of the mouth with a metal device, so the captor could pour unknown substances down her throat; injection with poisons; the "tiger bench2;" clothes ripped off in the freezing winter when she was kept in a cold janitorial room for more than 20 days; being forced to stand barefoot in the snow for many hours; being kicked in her genital area; sleep deprivation while being tortured day and night.

Ms. Xin was released in January 2007 and arrested again in March 2008. She was sentenced to two years in a forced labour camp and is currently held at Masanjia. Guards tortured her for six days in early June 2008 by tying her up on a bed and stretching her limbs. Each evening during that period, the guards force-fed her toxic substances and injected her with poisons. She vomited blood afterward and became emaciated.

At about 8:50 p.m. on July 30th, 2009, the inmate on duty saw Ms. Xin doing the Falun Gong exercises and reported it to guard Wang Yanping. Wang told other guards to drag her out. Ms. Xin called aloud, "Falun Gong is good! I believe in Falun Gong." Guards dragged Ms. Xin to a storage room, tied her legs and handcuffed her to heating pipes. While depriving of her toilet access and food, guards tied her on the bed and tortured her, including beating her with handcuffs all over her body. She had bruised knees, ankles and inner thighs. Guards also used a metal device to open her mouth. The following day the persecutors tortured her for seven hours. Personnel involved in this abuse were: Wang Yanping, You Yan, Sun Bin, Xiang Baifeng, Xiang Kuili, Sun Mei and others.

During the third labour camp incarceration, which lasted nearly two years, Ms. Xin resisted the persecution and refused to participate in physical labour or brainwashing sessions. The captors therefore tortured her with the "big hang up," force-feeding with toxic substances, and beatings with handcuffs.

Other personnel besides the ones listed above involved in these criminal acts were: Liu Yong, Ma Qishan, Wang Yanping, Zhang Zhuohui, Zhang Hong, Zhang Yu, You Yan, Zai Yanhui, Sun Mei, Xiang Baifeng, Xiang Kuili, Li Mingyu, Zhang Chunguang, Zhao Guorong and others.

Note

1. "Death Bed" torture: A practitioner is tied to a bed with his hands handcuffed above his head to the bed rails, and his legs tied with thin nylon ropes. The rope is then tightly wrapped around the practitioner's body and the bed, from his legs to his chest. The rope is wrapped so tightly that the practitioner has difficulty breathing and eventually loses consciousness.

2. "Tiger Bench": Prisoners are forced to sit on a small iron bench that is approximately 20 cm (6 inches) tall with their knees tied together. With their hands tied behind their backs or sometimes placed on their knees, they are forced to sit straight up and look straight ahead without movement for long periods of time.
