Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Changping, a taxi driver from Jinzhou City in Liaoning Province, was arrested on July 15th, 2009, and on August 12th he was transferred to the notorious Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. This was the third time he had been sent to a forced labour camp.

Locked up at Masanjia Forced Labour Camp, Family Visits Denied

On July 15th, 2009, Mr. Liu was driving a taxi when he was arrested by officers from the Nv'erhe Police Station. They worked together with Taihe Public Security Bureau, and since the district detention centre was full he was sent to the Yi County Detention Centre. On July 16th at 12:20 p.m., he was forced into a police car. He was locked in the Yi County Detention Centre, and when his family came to visit they weren't allowed to see him.

The Jinzhou Taihe Public Security Bureau later decided to put him in a forced labour camp for two years. On August 12th, he was sent to the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp, where he was put in the Third Team of the First Unit. There he suffered even worse treatment. His family demanded to see him, but were refused without reason.

Husband and Wife Both Benefited From Falun Gong

Liu Changping, 50, is from Luotaizi Village, Zhongtun Township, in the Taihe District of Jinzhou City. After learning Falun Gong, he and his wife rigourously followed the teachings of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. They set high standards for themselves and tried to be good people in every single aspect of their lives. Because he was honest and reliable, taxi companies gradually came to trust Mr. Liu and hired him. His wife Guo Yujun had serious insomnia before she took up the practice. She also suffered from neurosis and her temper wasn't good. But after practising Falun Gong her sleep and temper both improved. Their relationship was harmonious.

Persecuted For 73 Days in a Brainwashing Centre

From July 20th, 1999 onward, Mr. Liu and his wife were repeatedly persecuted. On October 19th, 1999, the couple went to Beijing to appeal. On October 28th at Tiananmen Square, they were seized by paramilitary police, and locked in iron cages inside the Tiananmen Police Station. Later they were taken to the Longfeng Hotel and persecuted there. A policeman with the Guta Division entered the room and immediately slapped Mr. Liu twice, and Mr. Liu was then body searched. After 15 days of detention they were taken to the Taihe District Party School, where they were put through 73 days of forced "transformation1."

Couple Given Forced Labour

On January 24th, 2000, personnel from Taihe Public Security Bureau again seized Liu Changping and Guo Yuqun and put them in temporary detention for a month. The police station then transferred them to an old persons ward, where they were detained for another month, and supervised every day by a township government official. On April 26th the couple were transferred to Jinzhou No. 1 Detention Centre, and on May 16th they were given a year of forced labour by Taihe Public Security Bureau. Guo Yuqun was sent to Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Shenyang, and Liu Changping was taken to Jinzhou Forced Labour Camp.

Mr. Liu was tortured in a variety of ways at the Jinzhou Forced Labour Camp. Because he refused to renounce his belief or be "transformed," his term was extended by another six months. On October 27th, 2001, he was released and returned home.

Seized Again and Given Forced Labour

After only 18 days of peace, and before their son had a chance to see them, Zhongtun Township police again came to their house. On November 14th at 9:00 p.m., police officers Kong Xianwei, Li Kai, Yang De'an, Wang Jianguo and Guo Jinning charged into their home without warning. As soon as he entered, Kong Xianwei demanded of Guo Yuqun, "Where is your husband? Why has he not checked in with us since he was released from the correction centre?" The police then began ransacking the house. They found a tape recorder with a tape inside, and to the side of the tape recorder was a cultivation experience-sharing article. They told Ms. Guo, "Just because of these two items, we can lock you both up for three years." They demanded Mr. Liu's identification card, and he handed it to them. They also took his driver's license and refused to return either of them. They told him that if he wanted to drive, he had to obtain approval from the police station. The five police officers then forcibly arrested them.

The police first held Ms. Guo in a bind and forced her outside. At that time she was wearing a woollen top, tight cotton pants and thin socks. During her struggle, her thin socks ripped and her toes protruded through. The police cuffed her hands behind her back and stuffed her under the car seat. The police drove the car to Houtun to find four paramilitary police, then took Ms. Guo to the police station. Then the police took two paramilitary police and three village officials (Xu Xiaoxian, Wang Jizhong and Gao Deqing) back to the Liu home to meet Liu Changping. They held down Mr. Liu, removed his belt and used it to tie him up, then took him to the police station. The time was already well past midnight, around 1:00 a.m. The officers then took all the letters, tapes, photo albums, tape machines and keys from the house. The next morning they put the two into temporary detention again. After more than ten days, Mr. Liu was put into a detention centre, where he suffered fierce beatings from prison staff and criminals. The criminals blindfolded him, then punched and kicked him again and again. Amidst the beatings, one criminal kicked him hard in the ribs, which was painful for a long time thereafter. In December 2002, Zhongtun Police Station again issued Mr. Liu a three-year term of forced labour and sent him to the Jinzhou Correction Centre

Tortured For Three Years in Jinzhou Labour Camp

In the New Arrivals Team of Jinzhou Correction Centre, Mr. Liu refused to "transform," so he was tortured by being forced to sit on a small stool for long periods of time. He had to sit upright non-stop from 5:00 a.m. until midnight. He was then transferred to the Second Team, and again given this form of torture. After a month he was transferred back to the New Arrivals Team, where he was twice locked in solitary confinement and handcuffed all day to a wooden board. After long-term mistreatment, his entire body became covered with scabies, which was unbearable, and his blood pressure rose to 220. He also lost consciousness twice, was attacked with electric batons, and beaten while hung up by his handcuffs. During the new year celebrations of 2003, Jinzhou Forced Labour Camp put inmates through extremely cruel "transformation" techniques. The method involved taking practitioners to a torture room, forcing them to wear a helmet, and handcuffing their hands behind their backs. A large office table was then used to wedge the practitioner into a corner, where they weren't allowed to sit, or sleep, or lean against the wall. If the person's eyes closed slightly the guards would attack his head with bed planks and clubs. At the same time they were forced to watch videos that slandered Falun Gong, with the volume turned up to its maximum limit. If practitioners didn't yield, the guards then used electric batons to beat their heads, faces, necks, foreheads, backs and genital areas. A guard named Feng Zibin viciously said, "If you don't transform, we'll just let you rot here." Liu Changping was tortured this way for a month.

On March 21st, 2004, Liu Changping finished his term of close to three years, and returned home. After being tortured so seriously, his recovery was a very slow process. In order to avoid further persecution and harassment from Communist Party personnel, the couple left home and moved from place to place.
