Three Practitioners in Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province, Given Heavy Prison Sentences

Mr. Bao Yongsheng, Mr. Zhang Peixun, and Mr. Li Congfu, all from the Jinshantun District, Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province, were recently handed heavy prison sentences for practising Falun Gong. On September 23rd, 2009, officers from the Jinshan Police Station in the Jinshantun District Police Department secretly transferred the three practitioners from the Xilin Detention Centre to Jiamusi Prison.

Mr. Bao Yongsheng, 47, is from the Hongwei Neighbourhood on Tuanjie Street in the Jinshantun District. On April 6th, 2002, he was arrested and tortured by local police, then later sentenced to four years in Jiamusi Prison, where he was brutally tortured.

On December 2nd, 2008, Mr. Bao was again arrested and tortured by officers from the Jinshan Police Station. While they were ransacking his home, they confiscated 500 yuan1 in cash. Officers Tao Xuwei, Wang Hailong, Sun Lilong, and Cao Wancai from the Criminal Police Division kicked, punched, and beat Mr. Bao with a thick, wooden stick and a metal pipe.

After dragging Mr. Bao outside into the freezing cold, they poured 12 buckets of ice cold water on him, then forced him to stand still until he lost consciousness several times. Then they stuffed numerous bottles of frozen water inside his clothes and brutally beat him.

Between 7:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m., Mr. Bao was severely beaten and lost consciousness several times. As a result, he became muddleheaded for two months. On December, 23rd, 2008, he was taken to the Xilin Detention Centre.

While standing trial, Mr. Bao tried to submit his hospital X-rays to the court, but the police stopped him. In June 2009, he was sentenced to 11 years in prison. In September 2009, he was transferred to Jiamusi Prison.

Mr. Zhang Peixun, 48, lived in the Xinnong Neighbourhood on Fendou Street in the Jinshantun District. In 2000, a woman unknown to Mr. Zhang went to his home and asked him if he wanted a copy of Falun Gong's newest lecture.

He told her that he was interested in reading it, so she handed it to him and left. The next day, the woman led a group of police officers to Mr. Zhang home, and they arrested him. In 2001, when Mr. Zhang refused to sign the so called "Millions of Signatures" form denouncing Falun Gong, he was sentenced to one year in Suihua Forced Labour Camp.

At 4:00 p.m. on December 1st, 2008, officers from the Jinshan Police Station staked out Mr. Zhang's home, then ransacked it. They confiscated all of his DVDs exposing the persecution of Falun Gong as well as his computer, printer, DVD burner, mobile phone, and 10,000 yuan in cash. When Mr. Zhang arrived home at 8:00 p.m., he was arrested and beaten by the officers.

Officers Tao Xuwei, Wang Hailong, Sun Yulong, and Cao Wancai, brutally beat Mr. Zhang until he twice lost consciousness. Tao and Sun repeatedly kicked Mr. Zhang in the head until blood was streaming down his face.

Every evening the officers waited until midnight to interrogate him. On December 23rd, 2008, he was taken to Jiamusi Prison. He was sentenced to nine years.

Mr. Li Congfu, 52, and his wife, Ms. Zhu Xiuqing, own their owned rice store and lived in the Xinnong Neighbourhood on Fendou Street in the Jinshantun District in Yichun City. Between 1999 and 2000, the couple were brutally persecuted and forced to attend brainwashing sessions. Ms. Zhu's breast cancer reoccurred, and she passed away in 2001.

When Mr. Li refused to sign the "Millions of Signatures" form on May 19th, 2001, he was sentenced to one year at the Suihua Forced Labour Camp, where he was severely tortured. On December 3rd, 2008, officers Zhang Xiaoguang and Yang Huiqiu from the Jinshan Police Station arrested and tortured him. He was later taken to Xilin Detention Centre and sentenced to eight years in prison. On September 23rd, 2009, he was taken to Jiamusi Prison.
