The Plight of Four Falun Gong Practitioners from Chicheng County, Hebei Province Being Tortured at Jidong Prison in Tangshan City, Hebei Province

Falun Gong practitioners Liu Yang, Wang Sheng, Zhao Bingheng and Wang Yuhai are incarcerated at the Jidong Prison. Liu Yang was arrested in 2002 and has since been detained at the Jidong Prison. The following is a brief account of their current situation.

(1) Mr. Liu Yang began the practice in 1996 while still in middle school. After July 20th, 1999 he went to Beijing and held up a banner that said, "Falun Gong is good." While running, he shouted, "Falun Gong is good!" He was arrested in 2002 while making and distributing Falun Gong materials with other practitioners, and he was sent to Jidong Prison for a 8-year term.

(2) Mr. Wang Sheng, 62, is a native of Dongliang Village, Chicheng County, Hebei Province. Mr. Wang was arrested and held at the county detention centre on June 14th, 2008, right before the Beijing Olympics. In May 2009, he was given a three-year sentence and imprisoned at the Jidong Prison.

Mr. Wang had anaemia due to the long-term imprisonment. He was sent to the local Nanyan Hospital, and 12 policemen took turns monitoring him. Seeing that Mr. Wang had no appetite and was pale, his family members asked for his release on medical parole. The police chief refused, saying, "That is absolutely impossible." Mr. Wang was then transferred back to the prison hospital.

(3) Mr. Zhao Bingheng was laid off from the Chicheng County Foreign Trade Company. He began the practice in 1994 and has since enjoyed great physical and mental benefits.

Mr. Zhao was arrested on April 24th, 2007 while telling people about the persecution and was sentenced to four years of incarceration in April 2008. He is currently being held at the Jidong Prison. Guards monitor and torture him daily.

(4) Mr. Wang Yuhai is almost 60 years old. Officials from the Chicheng County Wood-based Panel Plant in Hebei Province fired him for practising Falun Gong, and he is now imprisoned at the Jidong Prison.

Mr. Wang began to practise Falun Gong in the Spring of 1996. After a year of practice his chronic cough and spitting were cured. From then on, he lived by the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance."

Five policemen from the Chicheng County Domestic Security Team, including Zhang Yongxin and others, arrested Mr. Wang on April 24th, 2007. They took away his Falun Gong books, a tape recorder, a satellite receiver and his cell phone. His two sisters were later arrested as well. Mr. Wang was held at the Chicheng County Detention Centre. In April 2008, all three of them were handed prison sentences. The two sisters were each handed a four-year sentence, and he was given three years. Mr. Wang was imprisoned at the Jidong Prison as of November 4th, 2008. The brutal torture has turned his hair white, and his vision and hearing have deteriorated. He was forced to do hard labour even though he is almost sixty years old.

Following the imprisonment of his three children, the heavy blow devastated their more than 80-year-old father. He became almost completely blind, and their formerly healthy mother also became sick and was hospitalised.
