Ms. Luo Canhua from Yinchuan City

Ms. Luo Canhua, 67, was a retired English teacher from the Northwest Second Nationality College in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. After she started practising Falun Gong, she became broad-minded. Her son, Mr. Luan Ning, used to be a division director in the Human Resource Department in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. He has a bachelor's degree.

Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began the persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Luo and her son frequently suffered persecution by the CCP. Communist Party agents had targeted Mr. Luan Ning as an influential practitioner, and subjected him to harsh persecution. After he was arrested, the authorities tried to force him to give up Falun Gong through intimidation and physical abuse. They hung him up and beat him, and poured cold water on him. Finally he was sentenced to three years of imprisonment and dismissed by his workplace. Luan Ning was taken to the Air Blower Plant Prison, where he was subjected to arduous labour in the brickyard. Later, he was forced to do the most hard work, baking bricks.

For a long time, as part of their persecutory tactics, the agents of Yinchuan City adopted the dirty tricks of convicting the practitioners first, then fabricating evidence against them. After Mr. Luan was released, he was followed, his phone calls were monitored, and his home was searched. On September 19th, 2008, Mr. Luan was arrested again at home by nine police officers from the Xixia District and two staff members of the residents' committee. His home was searched. So far, he has been detained and prohibited from seeing his family.

After he was arrested, his mother Ms. Luo went to Beijing and hired a lawyer who would defend him The CCP court refused to accept the lawyer, and assigned a different lawyer for him. On the afternoon of February 24th, 2009, the court was in session. The assigned lawyer entered a plea of innocence on Mr. Luan's behalf, and made a 20-minute statement which fully exposed the illegality of arresting him first and framing him up later. However, the court authorities still refused to release him.

Since September 2008, when Mr. Luan was arrested, Ms. Luo and her 80-year-old husband worked very hard to find justice in the so-called "judicial department." While doing so they experienced a lot of persecution, such as threats, obstacles, and they were prohibited from seeing their son. Finally, Ms. Luo passed away on February 27th, 2009.

After Ms. Luo's death, her family asked related organizations to allow Mr. Luan to attend the funeral, but the request was rejected.

On the morning of March 3rd, 2009, the sky was overcast and it was sleeting a little. Ms. Luo's relatives, friends, students, colleagues, and fellow practitioners participated in the solemn memorial service, and reluctantly parted with her. Her death is another tragedy in the CCP's relentless persecution of Falun Gong.

Ms. Xie Cha From Xinji City Suffered Persecution and Died

Ms. Xie Cha lived in Xinleitou Town, Xinji City, Hebei Province. She had lingering disease, and her stomach was always distended. She had difficulty walking. She was not able to eat or drink for days. She could not even lie down steadily for sleep. After she began to practise Falun Gong, Ms. Xie experienced enormous improvement both mentally and physically. Her health was rapidly restored. She could do both household work and farm work.

Ms. Xie followed the principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in all aspects of her daily life. She was considerate of others in all respects. As a result, she was generally recognized as a good person by her family and neighbours. Since the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999, Ms. Xie has been persistent in her belief. Therefore, she was treated as a key persecution target by the CCP. She was harassed, threatened, monitored and detained by Party agents. Throughout the persecution, Ms. Xie treated these people kindly and tried to persuade them to treat practitioners well and to not persecute them.

Before the Olympic Games, the town government dispatched its staff members to harass Xie Cha repeatedly, and tried to force her to write an statement to give up Falun Gong. Under huge pressure, she was utterly exhausted both physically and mentally. Her health worsened rapidly. Her abdominal pain returned and was severe,so she went to a local clinic for intravenous injection. Later, she went to well-known hospitals in Shijiazhuang City and Xinji City for treatment, but she did not recover. Ms. Xie passed away on January 24th, 2009, only in her forties.
