Persecution in Jincheng City, Shanxi Province

New Year's Day 2009, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel in Jincheng City, Shanxi Province, started another round of persecution against Falun Gong practitioners. The Domestic Security Division, local police stations, local neighbourhood offices, and community CCP personnel and police officers broke into practitioners' homes, harassed and threatened them, took away their Falun Gong books, searched their computers and phone records, checked their Internet history, and demanded phone numbers. During this same time, practitioners were arrested and frequently sentenced.

At 8 p.m. on January 15th, 2009, Gaoping City (under Jincheng City) Police Department's Domestic Security Division captain Yang Changchun led a group of police to arrest practitioner Mr. Liu Xiliang, in his 70s. They ransacked his home in the process. They took his CD burner, Falun Gong books, and other personal belongings. Since the persecution began in July 1999, Mr. Liu has been arrested three times. The second time he was arrested was in 2004. He was sentenced to three years in prison and released in 2007. Not long after he regained his peaceful life, he was arrested again for the third time. Mr. Liu is now detained in the Gaoping City Detention Centre. The CCP continues to arrest him despite his age and physical disability. It does not matter to the CCP that Mr. Liu Xilaiang is unable to take care of himself. It only matters that he is not willing to give up believing in Truth-Compassion-Forbearance.

In November 2008, CCP personnel secretly arranged a court session for practitioner Mr. Chen Jia'an. He was handed a three-year sentence in December 2008. His family was unaware of the whole process. They later asked around and found out that Mr. Chen had already been sentenced. Mr. Chen is a 69-year-old farmer in Weiyuan Village, Daqi Town, Zezhou County, under Jincheng City. On August 4th, 2008, he was explaining the facts about Falun Gong and was arrested. The captain of the Domestic Security Division of Zezhou County Police Department and Sun Zhonglin, the head of Daqi Township Police Station, brought ten officers with them, ransacked Mr. Chen's home, and took away his Falun Gong books, materials, and many personal belongings. Mr. Chen is now being held in the Zezhou County Detention Centre.

In December 2008, practitioner Ms. Zhang Yunqin was sentenced to three years in prison and was taken to the Women's Prison in Shanxi Province. Ms. Zhang is 39 years old and is the wife of an employee of the Jincheng City Bureau of Coal Mine in Shanxi Province. She was arrested on February 17th, 2008, while she was posting her hand-written materials to expose the persecution. The CCP court in Jincheng City secretly arranged a court session in early July and sentenced her to three years. Ms. Zhang did not accept the decision and she wanted to appeal. The court used illegal methods to turn down the appeal. Ms. Zhang is being held in the Women's Prison in Shanxi Province, leaving her young child without a mother.
