Mr. Chen Min, 45, was a doctor employed by Zhuzhou City Traditional Medicine Vocational School. He began practising Falun Gong in 1998, and he was among the first batch of practitioners being persecuted in Zhuzhou City after the persecution began in July 1999.

In the past nine years of persecution, he was detained four times and sentenced to one year of forced labour in 2002, at the Xinkaipu Labour Camp in Changsha City. He ended up being released on medical parole due to his life being in danger from the abuse he received there. However, before he could fully recover at home he was arrested again in September 2002. This time he was sentenced to five years in prison.

Five years of this long term imprisonment and torture severely damaged Mr. Chen's mental and physical health. He was emaciated, vomiting blood, and passed blood in his faeces. He could not eat after being released to his home in September 2007, and could not care for himself. He died in June 2008.
