Poem: Garden of Selflessness

How many seeds of ‘self’
Have we sown over countless lifetimes?

Here within our human world,
A soil most fertile for all things of ‘self’,
Thriving upon an endless thirst.
Maintaining the centre of its own universe,
When will its bubble finally burst?

It dominates one’s heart and thinking,
Pervading every moment through time.
Offering a freedom all too false,
Realms of illusion where myriads of beings confined.

Can we follow the path to weed out its ways
Until this domain of ‘self’ rules no more?
To cultivate instead, the garden of ‘selflessness’,
Rising to the harvest of the ‘Great Buddha Law’.
